If you plan on going 1/1 for Dex/Str till you get to 60/60 for both, is Daggers or Axes/Swords a better choice?

Also, what sort of armor is best so you don't pull Aggro off the tank?

An even str/dex split is never going to be optimal. Either go daggers and full dex (enough str for massive armour), large/dagger and full str (24 dex for momentum, 28 if you want punisher, 30 if you want whirlwind), or large/large and full str (36 dex for dual wield mastery).

Of those, dagger/dagger has good autoattack and defence but poor talent spam, large/dagger has good autoattack and talent spam but poor defence, large/large has good talent spam but poor autoattack and defence. The latter is the worst (inferior to large/dagger), but doesn't use rose's thorn so another character can. The veshialle and starfang are about equal for high strength builds. Blightblood is also up there.

Armour type only has a very minor effect on aggro (and none at all on hard or nightmare). Put on massive armour; you will be drawing aggro. But that's fine, because you can take it. For that matter, with a dex build you can be the tank.

Dain, I thought after the patch dagger damage was split 50% between Dex and Str, .425 for each side.Under that circumstance it would be optimal to increase both.

Or am I missing something?

It means either gives the same boost. So strength and dex both give the same damage, but only one of them will also give you defence.
