I know this is done in the appearance.2da. I have some models that don't have matching skeletons, and I would like to assign them a skeleton. Unfortunately whatever skel I select I get all kinds of model warping ingame. Can someone help out with mapping models to use existing skeletons?

I'm being purposely vague on just what models to surprise the community with them. :D

The skeleton reference in appearance.2DA seems to control which GR2 files to use for the animations (HHM, HHF, etc). The model itself needs to have a reference to that skeleton in its header for those GR2s to actually work, which can only be done via modelling software.

If you open an existing MDB in Notepad you can usually see what skeleton name the model is currently using (it generally has SKEL in its name). When I make animated placeable effects from creature models, I find that a handy method of determining what skeleton they're using.

It's a pity the MDB Cloner doesn't support renaming the skeleton though. The snake model converted from NWN1 uses a model and skeleton with the same names as the SoZ animated snake placeables, so using the NWN1 snake overrides the SoZ snake model and animations.

you can't just simply rename an entry to swap skeletons. you've to import them into a 3d-app and weight the mesh to the needed skeleton, else the engine doesn't know which vertices are influenced by which bone.

Hmmm, rather than do a poor job of it myself, maybe someone else could do this then. PM me.

What I meant was that the succubus held her arms out like a hag and had a big chin - to briefly elaborate...

Ok, no bites so far. Let me put up these images to get modellers attention. I have other critters that need their models assigned to skeletons.

So you're making "Clash of the Titans" as a mod?

JUST KIDDING!

But seriously, I love the old Clash of the Titans... I want to see that bird carrying a golden cage!

well, after looking at those pics i can't think of any skeletons that would fit. perhaps the birdman could be weighted to a succubus, althoug the limbs are totally off. seems like those meshes need custom skeletons and animations, which is really difficult.

Those two have skeletons and animations (I think the vrock lacks a death anim though), I have others that could go with the c_heavy_skel or something similar, and one or two that could use a human skel.

in this case someone with access to 3dsmax8 is needed to export the skeletons and the animations. hopefully there're still such people around. perhaps elysius could help out if you could get in contact with him. he created the hydra and should know what to do.

btw is sending a pm even working? i've got a message months ago that this feature will be scrapped from the forums.

That vrock is sweet BTW but its attack animations are going to be complex surely. I would love to see it leaping and descending on the PC claws forst with spread wings?

The vrock has animations:
idle
1 handed attack
death (I thought it didn't have this, I was wrong)
run
walk

RogueDao I believe had a model for a Bariaur, which is like a centaur. I have no idea who the creator is, and how long ago it was made, but maybe it's worth a shot to ask how they did it.

I know who made it. I have the Bariaur, it just needs it's texture properly assigned to the skinmesh. It's a mess when assigned right now.

I can do that for you, Kamal. Assigning textures is cake. I'm a kinda-crap modeler and a sortof-okay texture, but that's a purely mechanical operation in 3ds8. pm me if you need me to crank that out for you.

Leaving town for Christmas vacation here, but acted on the request.  Won't be able to turn it around until next weekend, but feel free to send data any time.
