Its been some time since I played DA2.  I got the signature edition on 360 and wasn't a big fan of the game to be honest...gameplay was fun but the story/companions/etc, although perfectly fine on their own, fell far short of DA:O in my opinion.  However, Inquisition is looking really good so far, and I have recently been playing DA:O again, which remains as one of my favorite games of all time, on PC.  I figure I'll import my PC DA:O characters and import them to DA2 before Inuisition comes out.  I have really begun to enjoy roleplaying my characters, which is how I am playing through DA:O now, and it has really enhanced the experience, and I plan to continue that through DA2.

Having said that, I am curious...how do you prefer to order your characters?  As in, if your Warden was a Warrior in DA:O, do you follow it up with a Warrior Hawke?  A mage/rogue Hawke?  Do you like to roleplay their characters to be similar, or completely different?

Additionally, as I will be playing on PC, are there any "must have" mods that you can reccomend?  I have heard that DA2 doesn't have as many mods as DA:O does, but if you can reccomend some that enhance the game in your opinion, I would appreciate the suggestions!

EDIT:  Also, which DLC would you say is worth it?  I never really liked Sebastian much but is it worth having him?  What about the class item packs?

I prefer a mage hawke.I was disappointed in the rogue hawke and the damage he could dish out wasn't enough.

I have a PS3.I bought all the dlcs and the packs.
The dlscs are just ok, Legacy is clearly the best because it leads on to events in DAI.

Legacy is generally regarded as the best story DLC. It's a fun dungeon crawl with some interesting lore about Hawke's father and the origins of the darkspawn. The boss fight is a pain, though.

Mark of the Assassin is lighter in tone and generally has a comedic feel.

If you didn't like Sebastian, I wouldn't bother with The Exiled Prince. If you get the story DLCs, the Item Packs are overkill.

For my femhawke, I usually play a mage whereas I usually play as a rogue with my Warden

The dlc's are good. I would say they are better than the game itself even though I enjoyed DA2

Mage Hawke gets the most out of the storyline and the full picture of events, so in roleplaying terms it makes the most sense and gets the best unique commentay. Not that other classes don't make sense, it's just that mages fit more fluidly with the narrative - I mean it like how a Cousland Warden would get the most out of the whole storyline than Wardens not involved with the inner ugly politics of Ferelden nobility, if you know what I mean.

All the DLC is worth having, but if you must choose only one, let it be Legacy. It is that good. And play it in Act 3, for extra pain. Though I'd still recommend them all - Exiled Prince is a good DLC with a good story and good quests, regardless of personal feelings on Sebastian; and Mark of the Assassin is a funny herp-derp adventure to share with your favorite companions, regardless of personal feelings on Felicia Day (your Hawke + surviving sibling mocking the Orlesians together is already worth the price tag).

As for mods, YMMV a lot there, some people just do gameplay changes, others like to makeover the whole cast with cosmetic changes. The only mods I feel are absolutely must-haves are No Follower Autolevel and Lock Bash (for playing anything other than Rogue). And then these three are personal favorites of mine: Total FreedomAll Items EvolveDog 1 Second Cooldown, but again, your mileage may vary.

I played a mage warden just because it fit in to the tie-ins better. I play a random Hawke that I just feel is good for the playthrough. just do what you feel fits what you want to do. Mage Hawkes feel better but also make little sense in how you can be free if you are launching fireballs all over the place, especially when you are not yet champion.

The DLC are worth it so get them.

No idea on mods, as I play on PS3 and would not get mods for any reason even if I was on PC.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'd like to follow up with another question...

How much does DA:O DLC factor in to conversations/content in DA2? I've finished DAO and now have imported my Warden into Awakening, currently playing through that now. I am on the fence whether I should import into Golems, Leliana's Song or Witch Hunt before I do DA2. Do those smaller DLC add anything to DA2 dialogue or anything?

I would definatly recommend Importing a save from Witch Hunt as it wont neccessarily change or provide any dialogue in DA2 but it may have more impact on the universe in future games (Inquisition especially since Morrigan is confirmed to make a return - just not as a party member).  There are a few choices there (especially if you romanced her) that feel like they could mean something later on.   Golems doesn't really matter either way, but if you want you can do a golems playthrough with your origins/awakening character then do a witch hunt play and import that save.   Leliana's song is a standalone dlc and does not provide any benefit apart from providing some backstory of Leliana.

Rogues can deal huge damage against single targets. Specced right, they are the ultimate boss-killers. Mages cannot match the single-target damage a rogue can deal out, I think. Mages are better dealing with mobs though. (Assassin specialization essential for damage-focused rogues.) I can take out any elite or boss target more quickly with an assassin rogue than any other class, for sure.

Which class you play is up to your rp style. I loved playing both a mage and a rogue. For me, warrior was lackluster. Lock bash mod is supposed to be good but I've never had any luck getting it to work. There's a mod that levels you up with less xp, gives you 6 points to spend instead of 3 and 2 skills/level instead of 1. I use armor mods from RogueLass that are visual improvements and coincidentally way OP. I suggest a vanilla game on your first playthrough and "cheat" if you want later.

Make sure you install the console (a series of PC codes, not a game platform) at some point so you can add xp and money and fiddle with your companions' approvals.

I liked Legacy a lot and felt it added a lot to the overall story. One or two of the fights were brutal, even with my modded out characters. The Exiled Prince was a way to add a party member and rack up a bit of experience doing extra quests. Mark of the Assassin featured more experience and some funny banter. In both Legacy and MotA I thought the scenery was prettier than in the vanilla game and both give you some magic items.

Hope you enjoy playing your game!

The story works better to me if you are a mage but for pure killing power the rogue with assasination specialization is unstoppable. I forget the other tree but the power is vendetta and with that you can get two one hit kills on almost any non-boss to start fights. I didn't like the warriors at all.

I played to WH and really it didn't feel like other than a few throw away lines and cameoes the DAO decisions mattered at all.

The DLC's are both better gameplay experiences than the base game - no reuse of maps and waves go away. MoTA was a lighter touch but pissed me off to no end because of the "force" at the end of the DLC in terms of how you interact with some characters. Legacy really really good right up until a seriously badly designed boss fight that was more about seeing how you could manage a terrible pathfinding system than apply strategy.

Did the digital download version correct (wipe out) all those experience glitches?

Not at all, my Hawke and Warden are different. Warden (personal headcanon version) is a male human rogue, who initially tries to make the most altruistic decisions possible, as a result of his noble Cousland upbringing, but later in the game becomes dissilusioned and somewhat hardened.

My (personal canon) Hawke is a very sarcastic, sassy female mage who cheerfully goes her own way without too many concerns about stepping on others' toes.

Additionally, as I will be playing on PC, are there any "must have" mods that you can reccomend? I have heard that DA2 doesn't have as many mods as DA:O does, but if you can reccomend some that enhance the game in your opinion, I would appreciate the suggestions!

To be honest, the only mods I use are mostly cosmetic ones, as things that alter gameplay balance feel like cheating to me. I've got mods that hide the graphical effects for things like Rock Armor and Mage Armor, as I feel they look ugly, I've a few civilian clothing mods, and, most important of all, one that allows my Hawke to hide her weapon when she's not using it - Because the default game offers no method of visually unequipping your staff/sword/bow etc.

I think the only mod I have that alters things on a none-cosmetic basis is the one that allows all party members to learn whatever skill trees they wish within their class, or equip any weapon, so Merril can learn a healing spell, Fenris can use tanking talents etc. etc. I hate how the game imposes restrictions on this kind of thing, and much prefered Origins' open-ended, more flexible version.

Also, which DLC would you say is worth it? I never really liked Sebastian much but is it worth having him? What about the class item packs?

Personally I love the story DLCs Mark of The Assassin and Legacy. They address many of the shortcomings within the vanilla game, I personally really enjoyed both, though not everyone feels the same.

I have no weapon/item packs as I think that using such things would make my characters feel overpowered, especially within the early stages of the game, and negate all the fun that comes with finding upgrades within the game - but that's just a personal thing.
