I saw the twitter message posted by some guy who took a screenshot of his computerscreen and chucked in some standard marketing talk to get people excited.
I also saw people ****ing and moaning about which engine they are using Frostbite 2 or 3....I for one don't care what engine they use, I recently played KOTOR1 &2 again ( I will rather die than playing SW:TOR btw) I really had to get used to the crappy ( by todays' standards that is) Graphics and glitches but when I got past that after 10 minutes I stayed hooked because at its core these 2 games are great solid games.
Characters are alive and have ( albeit preprogrammed) personalities and have great dialoque and storylines for its time.
ME1 had all of this as well , in all fairness the ME universe is a downright clone of the Starwars universe except it doesn't have lightsabers in it and it is called paragon and renegade instead of Jedi and Sith, but it did the trick.
When ME2 came out I was excited, it had a great start but then it ( bliep) -ed up in its storytelling proces( it was revealed early on that the protheans were the collectors and it diverted greatly from the mission set out in ME1) and character development ( everyone had daddy issues/to many generic template characters).
I was hoping that ME3 would resolve all of this so I pre-ordered the deluxe version because I wanted to support Bioware... and when push came to shove they didn't deliver...at all
The graphics were nice enough, the gameplay went full on shooter with some rpg elements, the story was one cliche followed by another cliche supported by cheesy background music the dialoques and choices where so non existent that it would be better to have been left out completely.
The worlds looked dead to me ( no real dynamic events/children/traffic etc), levels had this unreal game engine look and feel to it( if you have played with game engines you know what i mean) where basically the level consists of corridors ( no open environments like skyrim for instance).
And when I strip the game of all its graphical beauty I have to conclude that the games Bioware has been making differ not that much from KOTOR1 an ME1, which means that they have been standing still and not pushing the envelope like they once did.
Long story short I will probably buy other games than ME4 ( the witcher 3 is high on that list), because I feel that there is no creative control anymore at Bioware and all capable people are being replaced by these empty marketing shells who spout nonsense ( "new yet familiar" /"no brains neccessary yet difficult" and so on and so forth).
And aside from that:
There was once a time when I hoped that Bioware would be making KOTOR 3, but if I look at their current standard of development I rather have Obsidian do it.
Also blaming EA for ME3's faults is to easy, I think Bioware had their resources spread out to thin because of development of the failure rpg SWTOR ( next year destiny and the division will be released and probably some more new MMO's who rais teh bar and obliterate SWTOR) and because EA not unlike any other company in the world had to step in to make sure ME3 got delivered on time ( it was released in March just before the closing of the Fiscal year) so the stockholders remained happy until the release of SWTOR, when that failed and it did fail make no mistake about that, Bioware's standing was diminished within the organisation.
The only reason Bioware still exists in name is because some bigwigs @ EA think ME3 was a huge succes it probably generated a ****load of revenue so moneywise this may be true, but I have a feeling that most people are not that eager to play a Bioware game anymore, at least not with the blind faith they once used to do so it might be that salesfigures from ME4 are quite disappointing
