Racially restricted romances

Or do you want no restrictions whatsoever? - Imagine a scene in which a bulky Qunari warrior is making love to a female dwarf, for example, and contemplate if you would like to be able to see this.

Or they'd have to make more than 4 LIs.

No. Restrictions should be based on choices the player makes in-game.CannotCompute wrote...

I don't care even slightly. People should be able to see it if they want to, and I should be able to avoid it because I want to.Imagine a scene in which a bulky Qunari warrior is making love to a female dwarf, for example, and contemplate if you would like to be able to see this.
Eggplant is disgusting, but that doesn't give me the right to stop others from eating it.

Racist characters should be able to be enlightened through their interactions with the PC.Knight of Dane wrote...
No, not unless it is with a character like Velanna that has a serious dislike for humans(Or any race), in which case I'm not likely to romance the character anyway.
Velanna was not that charming.

yea I guess really the PC should be able to make the world into a unicorns and rainbows world.... while other PCs should be able to make the world into a complete anarcy if they want to... just so BW can retcon them all and get yelled at for doing so.... sounds like fun.
As for the LI I don't mind them being restricted. because I don't think I should be able to force a clearly gay character into being strait. So why should I be able to though choices for someone to "love" a person of another race. Different people have different atractions.
Funny enough Varric is I think the best example. I mean he liked FHawke and if she was a Drawf he would have been all over her, but because she was human he wasn't intrested. And honestly I'm cool with that.
I think its sad that we want for 'force' openess onto people. When clearly being 'forced' to be any other way is considered bad.
Also it seems you have never talked to a skinhead before have you... I give you 2 minuites before you start regretting being on the same planet much less 5 feet from them. And start thinking violent thoughts of honestly wanting him off the planet.
Talking to hardcore Racists is a complete waste of time. They have such religous Fervor to the way they think. That no amount of talking will convice them of anything.
As much as we all want it to, words don't go though to people who close there ears to things outside of what they want to know.

I would argue that not all characters should be changeable on the players whim.Plaintiff wrote...

I'm not arguing that I should be able to change a character's mind on any and all points. I am arguing that I should be able to change their mind on some points, and I'm arguing that racism should be such a point.

No restrictions. However, they should play out a bit differently.

Well, I completely agree that characters should grow. The way you wrote it at first just made me think that you meant the player should "choose" character growth.Plaintiff wrote...

I'd want to add that your influence on other characters should not always pan out as you expect, be it for the better or for the worse.

I would like the ideas that romances act out differently depending on race.
E.G. If you play an elf then you can romance another elf and they mention that they wouldnt date a non-elf. ALTHOUGH, if you do play a human then it is more difficult to romance them, and they mention that before you they wouldnt even consider dating a non-elf. (Obviosuly i mean a more in depth version of this)

Depends on whether its a preference e.g eld man doesnt want to date a human as he doesnt want to sully his elf race, but doesnt actually dislike humans as non-sexual partners. I can see him being swayed.
But a full on racist? No, i mean i've seen loads of arguments on this board alone where even presented with full facts and evidence which is conclusive, they still do not admit they are wrong.

It would really depend on why that person was racist.
If they don't like elves because of their ears, then sure.
If they don't like elves because of elves raided their home village, then raped, plundered and massacred everyone while the character hid under a floorboard, then I'd say they'd be pretty justifed.
