I've lurked the BSN and the forum Bioware hosted before it since before the original Dragon Age was released and in that time, I've gathered character generation is an important part of the game to Sylvius and in that regard he isn't alone.

Selecting their gender and race, thinking about how the world will react to them and how they'll react to the world, what kind of weapons they'll use, where to allocate their points, the story behind why the points are allocated the way they are...it's a lot more fun than 'sorting socks'.

But why go through all the work if it all comes out the same? I played a rogue in DA][ and thought that if I played a mage next time the game would have to play out differently and that the mage hating elf would not follow me. Nothing really is different. A few lines here and there but not enough difference to worry about what you pick.

I'd like romances and friendships impacted by race, gender and choices. If your elf companion does not like you romantically because you are a qunari it won't be because they are a racist, but because they aren't attracted to qunari. Or a mage in your party does not fall in love with your non-mage supporter avatar (which is based off your actions). I'd even like to see romance options that will leave/break up with you if you cross the lines on their value systems.

Having these limits makes the characters seem more alive to me as I RP. It also makes my character creation even more important and carefully thought out. But that is just me and I'm fine with others not wanting this. It's all personal preference at the end of the day.

Do I think this will happen? No. Bioware is going to do what they think is best for the game and budget.

No, no restrictions.  In fact, I was a bit disappointed in DA:O when I found out there were no non-human romances.  Well, except for Zevran, but I meant girls.

Preferences are always subject to change however. If Varric were to develop an attraction to humans, I wouldn't mind that either. I was talking more about the general principle.
