Actually, I wouldn't mind this in theory but the problem is that there are really limited options for LIs to begin with (assuming that it's going to be around 4 LIs - two of each gender). To make sure that people get some options (not just forced into a single romance option if they choose to engage in romance content), this wouldn't work out. However, if the game went the ME 3 route and had multiple options for each gender/sexuality, THEN I would totally get behind this because I think it adds an interesting dimension to the characters. However, I would hate to see this incorporated and find that my male dwarf inquisitor has no options because the only dwarf in the party is Varric and, based on the BG 2 model, NO ONE else is interested in romancing a dwarf (false, btw).

I hope that they let Varric play all of you along, until the last second where he springs that he isn't interested.

I don't want racially restricted romances. I don't want to miss out on romantic content just because I don't want to play an elf or a dwarf or whatever.
I'm fine with race affecting your approval score with your companions though, for example starting out with a lower approval score with your dalish elf companion if you're a human. You can still get them to like you, you just have to work a little harder at it.

Would you like certain romantic opportunities to be limited to the race of the PC? - Think Baldur's Gate II: Viconia could only be wooed by a half-elf or human character.

No. Restrictions should be based on choices the player makes in-game.

Or do you want no restrictions whatsoever?

No. I want restrictions based on in-game choices.

Imagine a scene in which a bulky Qunari warrior is making love to a female dwarf, for example, and contemplate if you would like to be able to see this.

I don't care even slightly. People should be able to see it if they want to, and I should be able to avoid it because I want to.

Eggplant is disgusting, but that doesn't give me the right to stop others from eating it.

1. Race in dragon age is a choice, so is sex.

2. Sexual activity is a choice in dragon age, as is romance. Don't want to romance someone, then don't. That's your choice.

So why are race romance restrictons a bad thing again?

No, not unless it is with a character like Velanna that has a serious dislike for humans(Or any race), in which case I'm not likely to romance the character anyway.

Velanna was not that charming.

Racist characters should be able to be enlightened through their interactions with the PC.

I really hate that "we can fix them" stories, at least in the way most are handled. Its never over an appropriate amount of time, nor a good feeling of understanding the other person. It's just "Flirt Flirt Flirt, you should feel bad, Flirt Flirt, come here and give me some sugar baby. Bone, Bedded, Magic sex/Magic declaration of love fixes all problems."

Really freakin hate that ****.

Oh, phew! I wasn't sure I'd have the nerve to go through with it if I didn't get your permission.

I think arbitrarily gating content is a bad thing generally.

But romance is the main, if not only reason I play any Bioware games at all, and given that there are likely only going to be four romanceable characters as it is, I don't see the need to restrict things any further.

1. If you have a character creator then you have a choice in race and sex, that's it.

2. Oh buck up champ, I'm sure you could solider through it if it came up.

3. That's...kinda sad really. If I liked a game for just one reason I would question playing it. Same reason I gave up dynasty warriors really. I liked being able to kill everyone on the map with ease, but everything else was such a drag I couldn't play them and enjoy them anymore.

Given that it's looking likely that there will be a similar approach to romance gameplay as DA2, It would really restrict the options a lot.

If there are only 2 guys and 2 girls to romance, then making one of them not available  because of your race means that you have knocked out 25% of the choice before even starting.  Then, assuming that you are not playing as a bisexual character, you knock out another 25-50% because of gender.  That means that, if you choose to engage in the romance, you are restricted to a single option (maybe two if the racial restriction happens to fall on someone who is of the opposite gender than you are romancing).

To me, this takes alot of the appeal out of this gameplay feature.  It's why I hated the DA: O options so much.  As a gay warden, I had zero choice in who I could romance and I happened to actively dislike that character.  I would prefer choice, particularly given that it's (1) An RPG; (2) A Bioware Game; and (3) a gameplay dynamic that is more personal than some others.

Well I'm absolutely thrilled that videogames are finally letting me create a gay character and express his sexuality in-game, and I'm going to happily buy and play every game that lets me do that, because this is behaviour I want to encourage, and it's about much more than just games.

Well...because you made them that way. In dragon age origins I made a casteless dwarf. She suffered as a castless dwarf in poverty and facing discrimination becuase I choose to play a casteless dwarf. Same with a city elf, the description of the setting let you know there would be discrimination against elves, being surprised that the game followed up with this established fact seems strange.

Personally I would go a step farther and incorporate class or specialization into the mix as well. The mage character will be much less inclined to be romanced by a templar character. Cassandra will balk at the advances of a blood mage character. And people will question the intentions of an assassin in the reason they want a romance.

You'll have at least 1 chance of romancing someone somehow, it just might require some thinking and logic behind it.

I don't think they will or should go for restricted by race romances, since there is already too few of them. But it would be nice if there were some complications or jokes about racial differences
