Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a "realistic open-world first-person medieval RPG" for PC and "next-gen platforms" that will release in 2015.

Set in the realistic world (not sure if it's the real world or just a world resembling the real world) with realistic combat, armory and weaponry it seems the story will be political based or centered on a war between countries.

Realism is the key. "Deliverance promises no magic, high fantasy or mythical overtones - it draws its inspiration instead from historically authentic characters, themes, and warfare," stated a press release now sent to Eurogamer. That means period-accurate fighting techniques and "revolutionary first-person melee combat", apparently. There's horseback combat, open-field sieges and big fat fights. It's based around the Holy Roman Empire and the last days of the Middle Ages. The number 1403 is contained in the game's logo, and is presumably a date.

"The team's ambition for Kingdom Come: Deliverance is growing this ever-maturing sandbox genre in a believable, real-world context and scope. To that end, we're harnessing CryEngine 3, non-linear narrative, varied freedom in character progression, and a consequence-laden living world in ways that have never been possible until now."

I've been keeping an eye on this since it was confirmed in development but screens and a title have only emerged recently. Visit their blog below...

http://www.warhorses...ge=blog&lang=en

I can't believe that they might have to take this to Kickstarter because some publishers think people want boring corridor shooters. Sure there's a market for that but there's also a market for ambitious games like this and realistic medieval open world RPG's aren't exactly very common.

There is a video below showing some gameplay.

It looks very realistic. We see it's possible to riposte and it seems you need to block for every individual attack.

Edit:

Warhorse recently live-streamed the game. There's around 1 hour of footage here now.

Edit:

The kickstarter page is here.

These are stretch goals:

The funding has been reached and the kick starter is over. The team had this to say:

The developers have also talked about modding support and tools for the game:

If this goes to kickstarter I will happily support it. I look pretty cool.

Looks cool...

Can we have sex?

Jokes! Of course we can ^.^

But yeah, it really looks like something I'd spend hours on. It may open up the market for a new kind of game just like DayZ did.

It sounds like Mount and Blade but better and more of a proper RPG with a story. There are literally battles that you can partake in next to castle sieges and the like.

I really hope sieges won't amount to three guys a box and a very long jump. I'm hoping for M&B or even more. Because it'd be awesome to have an army of 500-1000 NPCs behind you.

If it's not our real world exactly, then I don't see why they couldn't have fantastical races as well.

You can keep the same real-world tactical combat while appeasing as much of the high fantasy crowd as possible. No need to lose customers over what is essentially a skin.

Might as well appease the COD crowd as well while they're at it.

Sounds a whole lot like Mount and Blade. I sure hope there will be mods to add high fantasy elements. It was fun downloading those in Mount and Blade: Warband.

That said, I wouldn't care for a lack of fantasy races if that means the human nations are more varied and unique.

I really like the sound of this one. If only it weren't FP. Oh well.

Ahh, so this is the thing Daniel Vavra has been working on. Love the premise, historical low-fantasy based in the Holy Roman Empire.

Then again, it is virtually the same premise as Darklands and I love Darklands. Interested to see how this pans out. He certainly likes to talk smack about other devs, I'd like to see if the final product matches his ambition and mouth.

This is nice... a crossroad between Elder Scrolls and Witcher?

But when can I see NWN 3, another D&D game, or Might and Magic X .I know the latter is being developed by Heroes VI engine (kinda lame).

It's a good looking game but after trudging threw the next gen launch titles and their complete lack of fantasy the realism fad is getting mighty irksome

I wonder if the "realism" will include weeks to recover from injury, crippling, blinding, limb-loss and death from infection?

Well in their blog they were discussing an RPG where you could catch a cold from not wearing clothing. They weren't confirming illnesses or injuries at features but the fact they discussed it perhaps says such features will make it in the game.

Well by 2015, Witcher 3, Dark Souls 2, Inquisition, Pillars of Eternity, Original Sin, Sui Generis and all these other fantasy RPG's and games would have released so I think this will even everything out again.

So has BSN RPG elitism come around to hating on multiple races now?

Early 1400 is a good time period for game. New ideas alongside old medieval ideas. If the game goes to nations (not just a fantasy kingdom), Italian mercantilist republics, German states, Serbia and Hungary will be interesting. Hand cannons are there, but no real guns. So the most advanced crossbows will be interesting to fight with. Great armors and other weapons as well.

Do you see the bloody gif? The combat looks amazing. I notice there's a stamina bar that depletes with an attack so I'm thinking that this is definitely Dark Souls meets Mount and Blade. Especially when you see that "perfect block" and "riposte" are linked to the bumpers and I really hope it has taken inspiration from these games so you can't just fly through a group of enemies with ease.

Hopefully the "realistic" elements means there's no over-powering gear or abilities. I'm sure you can get stronger and all that, upgrade gear and learn different techniques but if it's really going to be a "realistic medieval game" then that means you should never be able to go about and kill like say fifty enemies all by yourself.

Hopefully the game harkens back to the Ultima Underworld days with a feature where you need to sleep and eat to survive.

There are developers from ArmA and Operation Flashpoint working on this game. I hear the ArmA series are the most realistic military FPS games out there so hopefully they bring they experience and knowledge to create the most realistic medieval game to date.

If they want to do FP melee right, they'd better look at Shadow Warrior and Dishonored. That gameplay clip looks a bit clunky.

What can I say, golden czech hands. :o

Also, Daniel Vávra, the mastermind behind Mafia is involved as well?
Even more awesome! My hopes for storyline aspects are high. =]

Yeah, Mafia was brilliant and they have other veterans behind the game as well so I have no doubts that they'll be able to achieve the same quality of realism, atmosphere and story that the other games are so well received for.

Gameplay is another thing but that quick footage looks nice so far although slimgrin's comment is actually accurate looking at it again. Although that footage comes from eight months ago so I'm sure it's improved since then and there's still two years to go for them to perfect everything.

The Kickstarter trailer looks promising. Seems like "immersive" is what they're going for in the long run. :)

Looking forward to the combat especially!
