And now on the vault 1

http://nwvault.ign.c...ed.Detail&id=63

Some one has just noted that the 2da has gone from 9 mb to 100 mb on this update. it works but I cannot see why this would be?

I may roll this back to update 3 at some point and rebuild it? None the less, in the meantime it functions perfectly well for me.

That could happen if column tab separators are replaced by sequences of spaces.

At least one of the 2DA editors converts the tabs to multiple spaces.  Just changing 1 tab to 2 spaces would virtually double the size of the file.  Most of these things change 1 tab to 5 spaces or more.  I edit 2DAs in a text editor partially to avoid that.

I edited in excel, but this is the first update in windows 7 using TlKEdit. I will copy the file Back to a text editor tomorrow and see if that is what has happened.

Thanks for the heads up,

[edit] That does not seem to have happened. I copied 30 or so lines into a text doc and each column seems to separated by a single tab, certainly not multiple spaces?

I just opened the .2da in notepad++

it indeed appears to have spaces (honkloads of them), not to mention plus "Label" entries begin on column 3946.

NWN_2daEditor with the Compress option brings it down to 3+ mb.

KevL, you are a star. This must have something to do with Win7 and TlkEdit. the problem did not manifest in Xp updates.

I will try to repeat what you have done but would you be kind enough to send it to me as well?

what do you mean by 'mine' -- the one you had before the unexpected bump to 100mb ?

Or the one I uploaded to dropbox?

If you're thinking 3mb is too low and something's wrong, i doubt it. Have been using the 2daEditor for years and it's never kicked an error like that (user error, yes). But i just pulled your 100mb file in, compressed it (the editor uses tab-delimiting) and output it. I've done the exact same procedure to every stock .2da in the game and they work fine. Now, the 2daEditor might have a problem with files that are 100mb, but i doubt it. Ultimately it's on your shoulders, PJ, so i suggest you do the 'compression' yourself.

I'll just say that a size of 3mb is in accord with other large .2das I've compressed down,
my Spells.2da (Kaedrin's) is 857kb (byte count: 877,118, word count: 72,394)
my Appearance.2da (pain's) is 1.3mb (byte count: 1,324,895, word count: 81,633)
my previous Placeables.2da, ranges from 1.7mb to 3.1mb (don't know where i got it from.. but the large version has 23564 entries and is dated august 2012) (byte count: 3,214,535, word count: 104,851)

So, the huge new Placeables.2da, also w/ 23565 entries (byte count: 3,230,036, word count: 119,193), doesn't strike me as 'wrong'. IF this is what you're getting at bro,

i trust nwn_2daEditor to do this operation.

That is indeed what I meant :) The last update I did had the 2da at around 9K so at least the one you posted is consistent with my other material.

I don't have a feeling for how big they should be. Had it not come up on the vault i would have gone on business as usual without ever knowing it was bigger. I will try the compression but I am not to upset about 9K, at the end of the day it works. 100K is excessive me thinks but 9K vs 3K I think I will live with.

Wont be tonight though. I have spent the evening drinking beer and watching the D&D movie. Now is not the time for 2da manipulation me thinks.

Thanks for the help with this

[here's a little extra : seems IMPORTANT ]
when in doubt, do a compare with WinMerge, ignoring white space:

not much difference: except the line numbering in the large .2da is off, between rows 12639 to 12660.

The 2daEditor caught it and automatically fixed it in the 3mb file ... heads up.

ps. Cheers on beers & movie. Am deep in the marshes of Fanglewood, mese'f

I will have a look for that. I am using the 3 mb file now so if that's fixed then I am okay to go forwards with the. I am going to pick up winmerge and nwn 2da editor this morning.

Does it make sense now? that is, have you found what was remiss in the old workflow?

I did. I had pasted Equintirs Eligards work in the 12k's instead of the 16's

The growth of the 2da I am testing tonight. I'm going to add a line and save and see if it stays nice and slim.

So what is the deal? This is my second try at this I don't know why it's not a problem for everyone.

1. Put the 2da and the contents of all the cc folders into a hak and attach it to your model or
2. put all the folders into your campaign folder with the 2da

In each case you need to put all the utp folders into your overide (these do not need to be in the final project on the internet).

This method will get you everything that's available and then put all that content into your finished product. The completed hak or campagn folder will be 2.2 GB for the worst if you go down this road.

That's exactly what I did and 9 out of 10 items I click on the blueprint in the toolset, no model.

Sorry if it's too obvious but... did you try more placeables? Some do have problems, but then again PJ named them accordingly. I don't know why it shouldn't work for you.

Ya I don't know the big deal... I dumped the whole thing of UTPs so I have every blue print. I have the 2da (obviously, because a few BCK pieces show but thats it), and I have the mdb and textures in there. Didn't nit pick or get cute, just drag and dropped the whole thing so I could see what there is to offer. Really kind of need this to work to start my campaign.

The module has XP1 and XP2 required flags set, I cant think of any other outside factors...

utps in override everything else in campaign folder right? Not that it should matter... That's just the way it works for me though. Maybe you have another 2da in your override.

My money is on there being another 2da lurking and they are insidious.

I just re-checked the content folders and there is not a spare one there? Do you have any content haked into to the module you are using or is it clean?

One last thing to check is that the cc folders are int he campaign not the module. It's new to me as of last week but you cannot organize content in folders in your module directory. It has to be in the campaign directory. If you put content into the module directory it has to be the files out of folders. I did not know that till i started to build my latest project.

Good luck

I know that PJ has removed all of these insidious 2das from his pack, some I even found myself on early stages. But I remember that this happened to me as well, and yes a placeables.2da was somewhere. Override or campaign folder. Found it, deleted it and everything worked.

PJ, I also found out that Module folder will not recognize sub-folders. The bad way, and quite late after some hours of confusion and anger.

I never use module folder for anything and I am hak free so far. I'm going to go over this yet again and see.
