If you start a new game with Shepard in ME1, the new game+ option, I guess, do the choices from the last one still carry over. Because paragon/renegade points are reset...I've just started a new playthrough with mine, so I'm hoping it still works. Any ideas? Or will I have to play it far too much to complete it again?

Your choices and renegade/paragon status carry over.
If you were a high level with alot of credits, you get bonuses.
If you were a high level with alot of credits, you get bonuses.

So, if you were to play through with the same guy a second time in mass effect, making totally different choices (obviously no spoilers), which ones would carry over?

You get two options. You can play with the first guy, or the second guy. Guy #2 will get more bonuses for being a higher level, but it may be, and probably is, more important to you to go with the one that has the choices you like more from a story perspective.Mooglator wrote...

Btw higher level from import = higher starting exp, credits and minerals. Just saying.

So now that the game is out, is this confirmed? I am playing through ME1 a second time, but I want to use the story info from my first time. It's too bad that I can't carry over the new levels and stuff from the 2nd playthough.

you can carry over what ever shepard you finish in the first one 
they should all be up for transfert at the start of number 2...
and yes.. all the things you did in the first one will carry over.. not only big things like wrex and who gets left behind n stuff.. (screw spoilers, it's more than 2 years old) but also smaller things.. tiny things you do will come back to haunt you :3
