One think that really irked me about the combat in DA2 was that it was possible to chain spalls and talents, including the simple Attack ability. It's great that spells and talents can be chained, but does it HAVE to be impossible to override Attack? I mean, just because you are selecting a target with the right mouse button (or left mouse button), doesn't mean you are telling the selected character/s to use their auto-attack. Sure, you could click on the enemy with the non-skill button, but then you have to click it again with the other.

I would ask the Dragon Age team that they make sure that the player can chain auto-attack to spells or talents, not the other way around. Because sometimes you don't have time to wait for the character to initiate the spell/talent (for example, when someone is about to die and they need to be healed with a spell because they are stunned or just used their health potion). It just makes micro-managing that much harder.

It should always be possible to override Attack with a spell or talent.
