Despite Bioware devs like Gaider constantly whinging about a lack of resources, EA is one of the richest publishers in the industry. The content likely gets made no matter what.

That's kind of like saying it's absurd to say CDPR is a "small" developer because CD Projekt is the biggest game distributor in Europe.

The wonderfull thing about them is they never make excuses. Bioware devs are like a machine when it comes to this.

Day 1 DLC doesn't really bother me that much anymore. Yeah, I get that they are nickle and diming us with this and microtransactions, but the reality is that these practices are here to stay. We can all say, "Well, then we won't buy them and then THAT will show them.", but it's not going to happen. I'm not interested in boycotting content and losing out on the experience. While I'm not thrilled with the direction that the industry is going around this practice, I don't see it changing and would rather buy the content than hinder my own enjoyment of the product. I know other people will argue against this, but it's not going to change my mind on it, frankly.

Ewww, DLC should never be a pre-order bonus. I like to wait for reviews before buying a game so I can make an informed desision. I don't want to be punished for being prudent by missing a DLC.

Instead, I prefer if there is going to be a day 1 DLC that it be free for everyone that buys the game. A reward for being a loyal costumer.

D1DLC is usually free for those who get an original copy, like the Black Emporium was. The point of D1DLC isn't "screw you gamers!" but "screw you GameStop!" since they take in second-hand games, then sell them AGAIN, but none of the money for the second sale goes to the producers.

That's why shady producers mismarket games for big day one sales - so they get the money, not game shops.
That's why less-shady producers create d1DLC - as an incentive to buy new (they include it) and a way to get possible revenue from second-handers (who may still buy it).

Do you guys even know what your talking about? EA has a large number of games in development. Bioware is not their only focus. Bioware may be big but their games are equaly expensive so no, they don't have unlimited resources.

As much as I like the witcher series, pretending CD project is perfect is ridcilous. The witcher 1 was a terribly buggy game and witcher 2 is still not a well optimized game despite the patches released.

I like day 1 dlc.

If you dont want it dont buy it.

Id much rather get dlc on release than having to wait 2 months.

Plus 10 bucks isnt a lot. If anything I want even more dlc/expansion packs for a game I like.

Hmmm, more content made, or less content made. Decisions decisions. I think I'll go with having more content made, so Day 1 DLC please.

Why would they devote resources after the game is finished to something they don't plan on selling?

It's cut content, later polished for release as DLC. It's not all done after release.

Cut in the sense that it was unuseable in the state prior to their post-game completion work cycle. Like Javik wouldn't have worked as DLC after they decided to cut him, because the original game revolved around him. No way to use that as DLC unless they were to sell an alpha stage alternate history incomplete version of ME 3.

DLC's a cool idea, as long as they don't take anything away from the base game to make it and actually put some effort in. I'm not bothered by Day 1 DLC.

Dragon Age has done a really good job with DLC actually. All of the campaigns and companions were solid (except maybe Sebastian? But DA2 they made up for it with Tallis.) Only the gimmicky game breaking armour packs were wanting.

To me, it seems like CDPR simply says "We don't want to do this" versus "We could do this, but even if we wanted to, it wouldn't be feasible."

You didn't know? CDPR is perfect and BIoWare is the devil. You are not allowed to say anything negative about the first or positive about the second. I'm a shill for just stating a simple fact. That EA doesn't have unlimited resources.

I wish they would, I'd like to know why all their characters have no personality and just drone on about world building details.

Lol, thats besides the point. No developer is going to include every possible feature a fan might want. Jeez, I just hope CD project never produces a disappointing game becuase gamers are a fickle and unforgiving lot.

The problem with Day 1 DLC, as people have mentioned, is that it generally was built by people who would have contributed to the game itself. Shale, for instance, was meant to be found in Redcliff, but was converted to DLC.

Now, the way they did Shale wasn't so bad. It's a great way for them to incent us to buy the game directly from them. Money back to Bioware can go toward things like another Dragon Age game.

Pre-order DLC is a nice way to reward people for having a bit of faith, but should be kept to the superficial. "Pre-order now and get this exclusive snazzy hat!" is cool while "Pre-order now and get a chunk of the game we decided not to put in the game!" is not.

So Shale's Redcliffe content was explicitly incomplete(which is why when they actually did the DLC it wasn't located in Redcliffe). I don't see the problem with them taking content that was basically incomplete and not ready for the original production run, finishing it up and then making it DLC. Not like we would have gotten the content had they not done that.

Really? They included every feature the fans wanted in Witcher 1? Because I recall CD Project changing the combat system for W2 because of all the complaints about the first combat system. And thats just one example.

Yes. So therefore Witcher 1 was disappointing. Story was good but, the Menu/UI was ridiculously confusing, The combat system was really werid, also the game really drags on in chapter 2. Its not a bad game but playing it in short bursts helps.

I like Day 1 DLC, so your very opening statement is clearly false. In fact, I hope they do MORE Day 1 DLC.

I don't want to have to wait until I have already completed the game to find new DLC being released, I would prefer all the EXTRA content there on even my very first playthrough.

The only thing wrong with day 1 DLC is the ill-conceived concept put out there by people who don't want to pay a few extra bucks for a better game, that it is somehow "cut" content. I certainly don't want companies to stop producing extra content because a few "fans" don't understand the concept behind it.

What the heck? Not only I disagree with you but your general attitute against those who don't like DLCs is also disagreeable.

Just to let you know, often times these content are already present within the base game itself (I.E. Voice files, etc.) So the notion that they developed as an addition is ridiculous.

Besides, I fail to see the reason for NOT including the "DLC" within the base game itself. Instead of seperating them and giving me two price tags to deal with.
