In an amusing coincidence I just dropped into a game with two juggs who were mostly using only HM. I didn't stay long.

I think having a heavy melee Destroyer should be required.

Got one of those in a Collectors/Glacier/Gold game earlier today. Spent 90% of the match on the floor faaaaaar away from anyone else. The other 10% was spent just trying to... awkwardly heavy melee stomp things. Not even joking.

I cried a little inside. My backpack got a bit stretched out on that one...

Compared to, say, a really awesome PUG. Three of us buddies opened a 4th slot to public and got a newbie (he even apologized for being new, which kinda made me feel bad). We took him through several Gold matches and he did good for himself. Played an adept, so he could deal some damage with powers. And clung to me - not sure why me and not one of the other two other than maybe because I was the only one wearing a mic at the time - most of the match and helped where he could, like reviving or knocking off an enemy that was trying to drill me from the flank. Played smart. Very unlike a typical PUG, which is more like Mr. Heavy Melee Destroyer up there. Image IPB

Lol I once played a Melee Destroyer for kicks and well I got acquainted with the floor so much, I said "Never again."

On paper it is impressive, in practice it doesn't work out so well it was pretty disappointing.

For me his HM is only good for an emergency stagger (like stopping a stomp or something). But I have problems with moving around the map and such because console scrub with old lady hands so maybe some of the super awesome elite players or whatever can make him sing.

If "Authentic PUG" = bad, then a Gold Giant match with players that insist on camping spawn, even when that results in consistent revive cycles past level 5. Damn, you got the whole map to play in, why lock yourself into a deathtrap corner?  I've played there with a good team and roflstomped, but that's not happening so why not change tactics?!?

If "Authentic PUG" can = good, then joining a Gold Goddess map and getting stomped, nobody leaves the lobby, and we kill the next hour+ with three UUG matches touring White, Giant, and Rio with little drama. Then a tough UUP on Condor that ended with full extraction, GG all round, and an empty lobby.

Both!

An authentic PUG is every PUG.

I've learned to enjoy the epic fails, the same as the epic wins.

One of my favourite ever games was an epic fail FBWG Cerb. The game lasted almost an hour with 4 host migrations. Ended with just me and a Volus on level 10 doing a circle hack. He bled out and I ran our of medigel. It felt like Custors last stand!  Always remember that one even though it was a fail.

The best pug experience is when pugs share their headknowledge.

"U don't need consumables on gold, just put your gear on and lets go"
They never used a single gel or rocket, even on objective waves.

"I don't have any missiles or gels" "Yeah me to, I don't like these jumbo packs"
I let them enjoy spectator mode.

"Dude! do you a have a Harrier?" Me: Yes . "So use it . Don't take this Arc Pistol.. it's garbage man"

"Snap freeze is worthless. Just max Fitness , TC and RP."

"Nuke it !!!, Nuke it !!! U have to nuke it!!! It's a possessed praetorian forfuck'ssake!!!"
I was clutching a wave, and it was the last enemy.

If you know how to camp Giant it's a valid tactic, I'm ok with either camping or running and gunning though, if I join randoms who want to camp, I normally get stuck blocking the spawn in the back room.

Played a game last night. Ended up on my own in wave 1 after host left, and was then joined by 3 melee juggernauts. One left and was replaced by a human infiltrator but still...

(aka sub-scrubs everywhere!)

An AIU that goes down every wave but never uses Repair Matrix.
A TGI/Harrier sporting a BotB banner that fails to kill anything. Still nukes wave 11, though.
A Juggernaut that does nothing apart from meleeing enemies.

All this in the same lobby that is preset to White/Geth/Gold...

What were your most predictably awful PUG lobbies/games? Have you ever encountered a PUG lobby that resembled the definition above?

How about a geth trooper that refuses to flame? Does that count?

You forgot to mention players who don't bother to medigel waves 1-10 and then use them on extraction.

Early this morning I had two different flamer troopers; one who did it right and one who didn't seem to know he could turn off flamer and followed my poor Huntress all over the map. On the up side he was a good shot, helped with objectives and didn't camp the LZ during extraction. I'd call it mostly a win.

Just had a good PUG- Geth/Jade/Plat. Got devices twice (6 and 10) and still extracted in 21mins, minimal spawn-nuking. All this carrying an N7 46.

Reegard Kroguard, QME and Paladin (me).

So you take the good with the bad I guess.

Just found a Talon Merc on gold with a Disciple IV - with ULM and the Blade Attachment.

Blade I understand, if he didn't have the onmiblade, than sure. But ULM? On a Disciple? It's light enough already, shotgun ULM is pretty much pointless, and weight isn't all that important on the Talon anyways. I wish I had my mic plugged in, in hopes that he would consider my advice.

With a Disciple IV, it's possible s/he doesn't have any other shotgun mods.

Earlier I saw a pug trying to snipe with a Reegar, he was using Cryo rounds and a smart choke

It's possible, but unlikely that he would have no other SG mods, as both the Disciple and ULM are rare, while all of the original mods are uncommon.  The chances of getting ANY rare weapon four times (considering just how many rares there are now), as well as an unknown number of ULM before getting an uncommon SG mod would be very low.

Mods are wonky. I maxed out the rare ones long before the uncommons.
