There's already a thread about this exact same topic, and now there's another one!
You spam the boards incessantly with your dumb ass topics, piteously whining about why such and such character isn't gay/lesbian, or why there isn't any gay characters in the game.. Image IPB
Get over it, or cancel your orders if it means that much to you.

At this stage in the game, it's obviously far too late for your pathetic whining to have any effect
Honestly, I'm glad Bioware decided to stick it to you guys, if only because it gives me pleasure to see all of you in such distress over something as ridiculous as this Image IPB

You mad... :?

And boom goes the dynamite, we've got a brand new capitalist discussion going on! :D I wonder how we always seem to go from Mass Effect 2 topics, like whether SuZe is homosexual or not, to topics like economic systems, etc. It's strange...

third interview

Gamer Zone: Are there any other races that are asexual or bisexual other than the asari?

Casey: In Mass Effect 2, I mean, yeah, it's a similar approach to ME1 where you have the hetero romances between say Ashley and male Shepard and Kaidan and female Shepard, and then you've got the asari. They're obviously very female-like, you know. You treat them as females; they certainly seem female, with the big difference being that they procreate without sexual activity. They have their own entire fiction built around that, and so ultimately those are the lines of romance and relationships that we have.

Notice that Casey say that in ME 2 you have the heteroromances AND THEN you have the asari.

It's how BioWare pays their bills?  If there product does not sell and they recoup the tens of millions of not more they sunk into ME2 they can't make ME3?  I am not trying to get into a deep fiscal debate here that is beyond the scope of my knowledge but money plays a role in this.  It plays a huge role in this.

This isn't social commentary here, not too terribly deeply unless you wish it to be.  It's entertainment and entertainment is very money based especially now.  I don't think I have to explain this but I can try with my limited knowledge if need be.

You misunderstand. I'm not debating whether or not money is a root cause of the issue. I'm looking for a justification. It doesn't take much thought or observation to make statements about how things are. What I am asking is if you think the dominance of capitalism justifies  BioWare's actions. It's a simple inquiry.

Is it not social commentary? A discussion on the inclusion of queer relationships in video games sounds like social commentarey to me. It won't be neutralized by the staltifying, empty "Money makes the world go 'round" "argument", at least not while I'm here. I'd like an argument that isn't circular.

So as an example I run D&D games on the week if I choose to not highlight gay relationships in my game am I suddenly making social commentary?  I mean this is entertainment, I have no idea why they chose to go this path, butt hat was their choice not mine.

Am I beholden to have gay and lesbian relationships in my gaming any more so than BioWare?  Nintendo? Or any other game developer?

I have seen a video a while back, where she was called one of Bioware's best characters ever.
I will play the game before I dismiss any of the characters.
I don't like her personality in the trailers too much, but trailers are published for marketing reasons. Just watch the Dragon Age trailers and compare them to the actual game.

Ok guys i think it's pretty clear that the only acceptable solution to this thread is that Bioware needs to make every game feature options for Straight relationships, Bi relationships, Gay relationships, Polygamous relationships, Spiritual relationships, Animal relationships, Inter-racial relationships, and Inter-species relationships.

Anything less and Bioware are obviously backing into some corner because they are scared and are bigoting the relationships they exclude and are um...dumb and stuff. Yeah!

/sarcasm off

Yeah, cause two consenting adults entering a relationship is JUST LIKE someone attempting to **** an animal that can neither understand the situation or make any sort of verbal affirmation of their consent.

That Fem list is a 1-2-1 exact match to the "murder list" I have scrawled on on a post-it note next to my 360!

Yeah, I know Garrus has fans too. I can just never forgive his stupid low-resolution face for messing up my experience of ME1 on the PC :P

Maybe EA haven't accumulated enough Renegade points to unlock the red developer conversation option. They had to punch the media in the face instead of brazenly dismiss the f/f concerns as nonsense. :D

The original post is social commentary, which you are responding to. What you have posted is social commentary.

Suppose all BioWare games featured only young, rich, able bodied, heterosexual, cis-gendered, Protestant, blonde haired, blue eyed, white men. What would you say then? I just wanna get a feel for where you're at.

The only thing I don't understand is how including at least a bi romance option would hurt the game at all. I mean, mass effect 1 sold pretty well despite the fox news coverage for being a lesbian alien sex simulator. In fact, I'd wager that it probably increased sales.

The argument that it would lose or even not make money seems laughable to me. Sure, the number of gay/bi females might be lowish percentage-wise, but the amount of straight males who this would be a major selling point to should not be underestimated.

A lot of straight guys like to see girls make out with each other. In fact, I would wager that about 1/4th of the male population would prefer to see a female shepard/x female love interest pairing than a hetero one where they have to look at some guy naked during the scene.

A lot of companies are afraid to tap that market, (except for bioware, usually...) but I am convinced it's a large one. But it is difficult to prove because it's so much of a hangup that it's avoided so much in the media.

But here's some numbers to chew on: A google search for straight porn gets 40,500,000. Lesbian porn brings up 15,200,000. If heterosexuality is really greatly more common than homosexuality, than clearly there's a very large numbers of heterosexual males who prefer that sort of thing. (Yes I know prawns aren't the best measure of who would like what in a video game, but it's the most objective measure I can think of for what people ACTUALLY like to see as opposed to what they want people to think they like to see.)

Is the conservative anti-gay market really that large that appealing to the sensibilities of potentially 1/4th the fanbase isn't worth losing them?

Actually, I thought Square-Enix had a habit of featuring young, feminine, heterosexual, asian, atheist males as their... oh wait, that's just final fantasy.

lol some wishful thinking in this thread. Tali is NOT a confirmed romance last I saw, though I imagine both male and female players would like that. As for F/F romances being out, that is confirmed. That all but confirms that M/M will NEVER be a possibility. If the reasons for removing them were society/politics related, the fact is that however odd it is people are more comfortable (on a sliding scale) with two women than they ever will be with two men.
