Dear Bioware, why should I care about choice when I KNOW you will probably retcon them in the future?

All this bickering about "but but my choices didn't matter :(" and retcons is really tiring.

Edit: Perhaps not entering a thread you know you'll dislike would be better.

Decided to be a bit nicer, don't want to turn this into a bicker thread and get it closed. lol!

LOL! That's rather terse.

Maybe because people are tired of seeing Bioware emphasize on choice so much, only to either not follow through with them, or failed to fulfill them in a satisfying way?

It's because their choices matter only for that game, not for sequels as Mr. Gaider already stated.

But it ends up mattering to me when I see something I did in a past game get changed in the next.

No, sorry YOU are wrong David Gaider. If I chop off someone's head and they turn out to be alive in another game where I imported the decisions of my character from the previous game, that's just bad storytelling and writing PERIOD.

Your just out of line period you don't just start slamming people who don't share your line of thinking.

The primary purpose for putting a choice into a game is for it to affect that game.

And we can close the thread now. If some don't like that, deal with it. Or don't buy the game.

Or we can continue with what I feel is the greater issue of choices not mattering within their own game, like most of DA2's.  It was mentioned earlier how none of the choices you make regarding Anders in Acts 2 and 3 effect anything, it all plays out the same regardless, what was the point?  Grace is another example, no matter what choice you make it all pans out the same, what was the point?  The only way most choices mattered in that game were whether they got Friendship or Rivalry points, which really only matters because it gets you one of two bonuses for a character.

I'm not saying they should cut choice out, or even that every choice has to lead to a different outcome, but they should all lead to a difference.

DA2 was a bad game, simple.

Watch out, we have a badass over here!

Why did you delete your sentence where you asked David Gaider to be fired? Coward. Pity I didn't make a screenshot.

I thought his last sentence was out of line, but he deleted it and he's got my respect for that. I do think however Guns statement on it being bad writing isn't over the line. I'm not sure whether or not I agree with it. I mean I thought the writing in DA:O was great, and in DA2 it was kinda meh. But I do think the overrall attitude on how they treat the concept of a character death is definitely wrong.

Squeals and Import features should be wiped out then.as someone else pointed out already. Seriously, no company should offer up an import feature and tell players their choices only matter in that single game. Image IPB

Realizing you did something wrong and making things right but getting rid of the sentence is the opposite of cowardly. Give him a break.

He deleted it, geez. The only reason to want a screen shot is to continue to provoke a fight. Quite honestly, that's pretty much the reason why you're here since your first post  is how the thread should be closed. Image IPB

I guess it wouldn't be so bad if they at least attempted to make some kind of explanation as to how some of you choices get handwaved. Leliana (again) for example, I could roll with it if she died in DAO, and then in DA:I we get some kind of throwaway line that explains how she's alive. Like the Maker said it wasn't her time. Something like that, just to at least show that the writer is aware and still wants to address your playthrough in DA:O.

I think my biggest hope is with the next Mass Effect game being made and Bioware's new IP (assuming it'll have choice in it), they plan things better. That's all.

What's the point of importing choices if they are just going to be knit picked on whether they will carry over or not?

I'm not slamming anyone who disagrees and explains their argument. I am slamming drones who just come into threads and say "lol no u r rong" to anyone who disagrees with what Bioware is doing. Especially with one that was as maturely written as the OP's post.

@angrywolves.
Thanx for link. (Great job remembering!)
Interesting.
However, I would take that as rumor and speculation only.
That's not definitive in any way for me.
Cheers.

If we kill a character and they come back in a later installment im mostly not disturbed firstly since it's a rare occurrence like leliana and ohgren, the writers have plans for them and will acknowledge that you killed them beforehand but they came back. Also most choices we make are major in that game, and only the major ones that reverberate around the game world are picked it's hard work for bioware to make it work, so hopefully the keep will make it easier on them and us, so we get less of those situations.

Well I'll be honest, I didn't appreciate a few of the comments I got in the first page. I don't mind people disagreeing, but some people are ridiculous.

The way the title is worded they don't expect an intelligent conversation and are prepared to blow you off, it kind of sounds confrontational.

Disagreeing with what Bioware does might make an OP feel good , but it doesn't do anything other then maybe make Gaider mad and he comes in threatening bans and such.Or maybe a mod does had out bans. And then what ?
I've disageed about things Bioware has done and it hasn't gotten them to change anything.
shrugs.

Ok but bad games don't make themselves.  Somebody, probably several somebodies, looked at these choices and decided they'd all play out identically.  Maybe it was a time thing, maybe it was a money thing, maybe it was late on a Friday and somebody just couldn't be bothered to give a !@#$, I dunno.  What I do know is that it was frustrating, took me out of the experience, and was in no way exclusive to DA2.

_____________

This topic has been debated so many times.
Sure, it's still valid today.
I think you just have to take many of them as just registering their votes yet once again - though maybe a bit tersely at times.
They aren't drones.  They just seem like drones after having debated this already many times.
Right or wrong - you gotta factor that in.

I doubt they expect intelligence from themselves least of all someone else if they reply to a thread without even reading the first post.

They are under no obligation to post, or to even enter the thread.
