Dear Bioware, why should I care about choice when I KNOW you will probably retcon them in the future?

So why are we discussing this topic again for the one millionth time?

I admit, the way they handled the companion deaths was...kinda bad. And the companions in general, what with them bumping into the PC left right and centre as if Thedas is a small town or something.

Because some of us haven't discussed it as much as you or wish to continue to discuss it more than you do. Take your pick.

Just like the OP has the right to post an extremely tired topic in which the thread title seems to hint at a certain amount of self-entitlement, other people have the right to roll their eyes and snark if that's all they feel that the thread is worth. Deal with that too while you wrestle with the idea of accepting that no dev on Earth is going to be able to accommodate your every whim.

*yawn*

I never argued that they couldn't, only that I would dismiss them based on what little amount of effort they put into said posts.

*fart*

But yeah, if you're gonna disagree/put down something, at least explain why you think it's crap, rather than just "durr this suck kthnxbai"

No, if people continue to whine about one character coming back to death I will continue to point out that is an exception not the rule, also do not tell me what I can or cannot post about.

The Ash/Kaidan choice is a great example of a Bioware shuffle that worked.
I will admit - I forgot that - having only done 1 playthrough on ME series and it seems like a long time ago too (pitiful excuses for my memory lapse).
Good points!  Very creative solutions to all these potentially thorny issues.
You make it all seem so easy.  Shame on you.  :D

Thanks! I wish the writers had thought this up or maybe they did but were too pressed for time, perhaps?  Anyway, Day 1 DLC FTW!!! Image IPB

Oh ok... it was just a suggestion, but fine I will delete it.

Some feel the exception itself is unacceptable itself even if it's not the norm.

The OP is making a very reasonable and valid point in this thread and anyone who is disregarding everything he has to say is just a blatant Bioware drone who would defend them even if Bioware started forcing them into prisons.

No, sorry YOU are wrong David Gaider. If I chop off someone's head and they turn out to be alive in another game where I imported the decisions of my character from the previous game, that's just bad storytelling and writing PERIOD.

Watch out, we have a badass over here!

Why did you delete your sentence where you asked David Gaider to be fired? Coward. Pity I didn't make a screenshot.

He deleted it, geez. The only reason to want a screen shot is to continue to provoke a fight. Quite honestly, that's pretty much the reason why you're here since your first post  is how the thread should be closed. Image IPB

Decent person would have apologized for doinga  wrong thing ,and not just pretending that he did nothing wrong.

Perhaps he wasn't sorry for writing it just posting it.  Just a guess.

I give Leliana's resurrection a pass because BioWare we're not sure wether or not they were going to make a sequel, if any of DA2s companions return from death then I will be really annoyed.

So unwelcoming and negative. This thread is sad.
Not everyone lives and breathes on these forums.
This thread is now about posting etiquette it seems. So let me join in... Why post in a thread you want to end? I just don't get these forums. I'm going back to Tumblr. (And that says a lot.)

Anyway OP. I thought the topic was interesting and shows how much Bioware has to live up to. It is something they feel obligated doing because of their promise with Mass Effect. I hope they can balance using past decisions in the story without using the same characters, making cameos and just unnessicarily filling. You are right imo, it makes the world seem smaller.

Work with Red Iron ----> get into the city
Work with Athenril ----> get into the city the same like above

Defend Ketojan ---> Ketojan dead, burn himself
Give Ketojan to Arvaraad ---> Ketojan dead killed by Arvaraad

Help Mages flee from Templar ---> They kidnap your love ones and turn to Blood Magic against you later
Give the Mages to the Templar ----> Same thing happen as above

Help Anders find ingredients ---> the ingredients is actually to make a bomb and he bomb the church
Don't help Anders find his ingredients ---> same thing happen as above

Kill D'Puis --> Hawke mom dead
Don't kill D'Puis ---> Hawke mom dead
Let Templar execute D'Puis ---> Hawke mom dead
Inform Templar mom is missing ---> Hawke mom dead
Search mom alone ---> Hawke mom dead
Search with Aveline --> Hawke mom dead
Use D'Puis to track mom ---> Hawke mom dead
Do whatever regarding mom ---> Hawke mom dead

Side with Mages --> Orsino become a monster and want to kill you, Meredith go nut
Side with Templars ---> same thing happen as above

Lol did you completely forget about how you can kill Anders at the end of DA2 or something?

Yeah, DA2 was an epic dropping of the ball in terms of choice and role play with most things ending the same way.

There is a thing called a "search". Very effective one, mind you. It's not that time consuming to search and see if the topic that you think is very original was discussed ad nauseum.

Some good internet forums even ban at once posters who make an unoriginal thread instead of using a search first. I wish Bioware mods banned posters who make threads that were discussed millions of times.

How many choices where there in DA:O?
How many of them were retconned in DA2?

I guess Gaider still doesn't get it. Wasn't he just going on about the primary reason for choice is to have an Impact on THAT game and not necessarily future one's?

The enjoyment of the choices you make in the present does not cheapen them because they are changed in the future IMO.

At point A: I make choice X
At point B: I make choice X
At point C: I make choice Y

These choices are satisfying to me at the time I make them, their value is for me - pleasurable.

Now, the game is done and we move on to the next dragon age. The previous player character is no longer mine, Im the Inquisitor now - so the Warden? I dont care about that character anymore.

So lets say Bioware now retcons the choices to YYX. Doesent really affect me now does it? That character is over so even if the warden was retconned to have died at the joining and Jory became the warden - I couldnt care less.

Why does people care about retcon when the previous character is no longer your character? Seems like people are too concerned about the past and future to enjoy the present, Because isnt that the MOST important? To enjoy the player you are currently playing?

Epic! Image IPB

But wait. Now the argument about how the experience and illusion of choice is what really mattered the most will come into play.

Because the whole point is that previous character still is ours. That's the whole point of being allowed to transfer our choices with our previous characters not making an appearance. Just because you don't care about being lied to by Bioware doesn't mean everyone else doesn't care.
