I am of the belief that if you want to tell a mature story, then you can't act like your world is some sort of fantasy land where everyone loves everybody.

Then it's a damn good thing that Thedas is not that fantasy land.  The lack of homphobia =/= everybody loves everybody.  I don't understand why you or anyone else keeps assuming that it does, especially when racism and classism are very firmly established in the canon.

Why would anyone care how someone plays in their playthroughs? If someone wants to play as a homophobic, why should you care? Just because YOU don't want to play as a homophobic person doesn't mean it should be completely left out of the game :P

Agreed.  I have no issue with how other people play their game.  I have an issue with trying to pass off prejudice options as "realistic" when that's not true in the setting of the game.  If there were already homophobic responses in the game, then I am perfectly fine with people choosing to access those options.  More power to them.

Isn't "verisimiltude" a drum that is often beaten around here?  Wouldn't that apply here too?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's heading to an "End of line."

A lot of people don't want to believe that, because then they would have to acknowledge their own bigotry, and that's never a comfortable thing to confront.  But it doesn't change the facts.

Because those things you mentioned are just as much a social construct as homophobia is.

I also didn't mention homophobia either. I just want them to not sugercoat any social issue they talk about, which is within the overall focus of this thread, and not just within the sexuality war that seems to be necessary for every Dragon Age thread.

Because when the situation is brought up in the game with no intent of being harmful to the player in a sense, there are still many who get offended.

They have racism and the population of Thedas isn't really sexist or homophobic. And I'm sure they'll have reaction to the Inquisitor's gender. They have for every other protagonist.

I'm talking about real reactions and the way you can solve a quest. To give you an example, if you played a woman with decent charisma in Fallout 2, you could sleep your way through a lot of quests, an option that wasn't available as a male. Or gain access to certain areas, that as a male you had to prove yourself to it, while playing as a woman, you could basically flirt your way to meet the boss. Something similar like that would be pretty cool.

And that's where a developer would lose me.....

if the dynamics were just 'woman uses sex, man uses fists'.... *yawn* and sophmoric.

There's this thing called being neutral, where you don't support something yet at the same time don't want it suppressed. It's not "You support it, or you're a bigot."

So "I don't have strong feelings one way or the other" is now bigotry...

Thought Plaintiff got the boot... Seriously this line of thinking is just completely alien to me.
