So I started a naming thread and a lot of people are using the qunari langauge for names.
How would a kossith raised outside the qun even know that langauge.

Qunari is a race, regardless of one's knowledge of the Qun.

Qunlat is the most appropriate language.

The OPs point is that if the qunari is raised outside of the qun, how do they know the language? It would be like me growing up knowing Russian despite living in America with an english speaking environment.

As for the OP, I assume it's because people really don't care and just want to name themselves something they think is cool.

So a kossith that had never been around actual people of the Qun knows their langauge because they share a race?
I should be able to speak german and gaelic then.

Perhaps there are Tal-Vashoth communities the Qunari Inquisitor grew up in.
A lot of foreign languages are spoken in immigrant families here in the US.

For Maker's sake, there are no kossith. "Kossith" is a historical term, like Anglo-Saxon to the English.

Also...many people speak Arabic, but are not Muslim.

I'd say that the Vashoth/Tal-Vashoth speak Qunlat, so it's logical for their children to learn the language .
If the qunari (member of the race) was, for example, adopted by humans, then no, he wouldn't know Qunlat.

I think if the Inquisitor's parents were tal vashoth maybe the wouldn't want him to grow up knowing about the qunari culture.
After all that would be a part of what they were trying to escape.

And btw if they wanted to name the race "qunari" they shouldn't have made Sten say they weren't.
Qunari are of the qun.

Qunari means the race and religion. Gaider said as much. Now you can debate what the thread is about.

It would not make sense for a Qunari to have a Qunari name if he wasn't raised around Qunari that practice the Qunari religion.

I wish there were likes on this forum.  Or ratings.  So I could like this and rate it up ;)

They still needed language. Qunlat was the most readily available, assuming they were forced to continue their association with the Qunari (economically, if the other races were unwilling to).

The writers have now decided to name the race "Qunari." Deal with it.

Haters gonna hate. Qunari gonna Qunari

Many people who fled their countries due to political struggle still keep their traditions and cultures, so it's expected for those Qunari to pass on their cultures and languages to their children. They may not like how their government has become, but their culture is still theirs.

Great,Gaider said it.
Then why does in game content say the opposite?
I am dealing with it that is why they are Kossith, until they come up with a word that actually makes sense.
But just because a writer said something doesn't mean I'm not allowed to say "that makes no sense "
In the context of the game.
Um,no qunari culture wouldn't be still thiers why would you teach a child the workings of a culture you escaped?
They didn't flee because of a "political struggle" where did you get that?
If someone told me a tree was called a lamp that doesn't make it true.

What the hell are you talking about? "Kossith" has never been used in-game to describe the current race.

Now, with DAI, the race is officially the Qunari.

I was just trying to help your thread. If somebody doesn't say it, then the whole thread will become a debate on that term. Also, the writers kind of make the rules for their stories and races. Just saying.

I never said Kossith was used in game.
But it was said those outside the qun aren't qunari.
So with lack of a better term I'm using Kossith.
Also you are kind of spamming over this.

From what I understand using the word Kossith to refer to Qunari, is a bit like calling a Frenchman a Gaul or a modern day Spaniard an Iberian.

Its archaic.

I believe the correct terminology is Horny Qunari. Posted Image

It's an analogy to real life situation. Once a Qunari refuses or escapes from the teaching of the Qun, they becomes an outsider, a heretic, a Tal-Vashoth. I would imagine that once someone was raised in a culture, even if they refuse their teaching, it's something they were born with. I don't see how it would be negated just because they're no longer a part of the Qun. The Qunari's language and culture would still be derived from the Qun originally even if the reject their ideology. Noted that I separate culture and ideology.

I think that term only apply if a Qunari walk into a brothel.

From my experience talking to people, a lot of the refugees may hate the way their government becomes, but a lot of them still love their country and their culture. Try to talk to immigrants and refugees, they could give you a better understanding about this.

erm.wooow,that came off as condescending.
I was raised by immigrants actaully.
But I am talking about the qun so there isn't much of a situtation in real life you could  accurately compare it to.
Also the qun had been that way for a really long time so the goverment didn't suddenly change.
The whole society they lived in was under the qun religion as well as goverment.
