What is appealing about a challenging game?

From what I've heard, in Dark Souls, one must learn the particular weaknesses of an enemy or they need to avoid certain situations. In order to do that, they must experiment with different ways to handle this. That's what I'd call trial and error. Though, I am sure that you, in all of your elite gamer glory, never made a mistake in a video game that caused you to have to retry things.
All you really need to know are enemy movesets, which aren't hard to learn; all you need to do is bait them into attacks and observe what they do. Also, showing some common sense goes a long way (e.g. don't walk into the gas that basilisks emit). There are parts of Dark Souls that are designed poorly (e.g. the game doesn't explain how scaling works), but being trial and error isn't one of them provided that you take your time rather and observe what's happening rather than rushing into areas like a fool.
Also, what's with being such a passive aggressive c*nt?
And before anyone brings up the dragon

Simply a response to the childish nature of your comic which suggests that if a person happens to fall upon a trap then that person must be an idiot. In reality, like most things, it was an honest mistake as most games do not require you to pay close attention to detail, which seems to be central to the game, due to your description.
Basically, I dislike people who pound their chests because they are good at video games, and they act like a person is lesser than them if that person is not as good at video games as they are.

The comic is from Sen's Fortress, which is roughly halfway through the game. At that point, if a player who fits the bolded description in your post doesn't know that Dark Souls requires them to pay attention to the environment, how else should one describe their behaviour if it isn't idiotic? The Mad Hanar wrote...

And I was supposed to know this, how? Besides, would a YOLObro really make it halfway through Dark Souls?

Look at Wiggles, you make me giggle. So superior and little. I might as well call you my little skittle.
Do you actually have anything to contribute to the topic, or are you just going to continue with your idiotic one liners? I could understand this if I were behaving like David, but I'm merely arguing my case.

Sorry. To be fair though, I did admit a few posts back that I didn't play the game, and I merely was conveying what I have heard about the game. I responded like an ahole because of the comic. My bad, my bad.

You said it, not me. Who needs 'til halfway through a game to understand whether it's gameplay has basis in trial and error (most games do btw)?wiggles89 wrote...

I like difficult games, but ones that don't use arbitrary forms of difficulty (hp bloat) and the best ones often allow varying degrees of failure while allowing you to still progress rather than a you win or you game over mentality.
Though the you win or game over mentality is not a bad thing, depending on the game and how it is executed.

Failure that results in something other than a Game Over screen is something that is great, but has so many pitfalls. When it is done well, it is a bit like the Holy Grail of gaming, but when it's done badly it can feel incredibly silly.
