I didn't read Deception, so I don't know how much he was already messed up by that book (or if anyone cares) but yes, he could have been great if they wouldn't have turned him into space ninja (also, I don't recall him ever using a frigging sword in Retribution).
I think the main problem with Kai Leng was that in ME3 he was presented has nothing more than this goofy villain with nothing more than his goofy cutscenes. I think he could have been mcuh better if the BioWare writing staff made him a better villain. For example, during the cutscenes for the Cerberus Coup and Thessia missions if they actually made him a smart and intelligent villain (such as sniping Thane/Kiraher during the Cerberus Citadel Coup or setting an elaborate trap for Shepard on Thessia) these scenes could have worked muched better). Instead the BioWare staff relied on the inherrent awesomeness of space ninja Kai Leng instead of a reasonable smart villain.
Hopefully for the next game they present a smaller scale conflict that expands on the universe and character development rather than some epic scale conflict. I think that Mass Effect works better with alien politics better than some galaxy wide plot line. I think that the original attraction to the Mass Effect story relies on this differant and elaborate setup rather than the attraction to epic space battles.
I am drunk right now but I think the Mass Effect story could benefit from a smaller plotline. And what I mean by that is one that is based on character interactions and personal decsions rather than some conflict that determines the entire fate of a galaxy. We already have had that. Let's make a game that is based on exploring the vastness of the Milky Way Galaxy rahter than saving multiple forms of life. This game is going to sell anyway, might as well make it a revolutionary concept. By the way I have had a view drinks when writing this idea, so please take these ideas with a grain of salt; I'll probably regret them when I am sober.
Drunk posting. Just don't do it man. I've made an ass of myself a few times on these boards with drunk posts.
Still, you can string words into coherent thoughts and complete sentences. Your spelling is a little off, but otherwise, you haven't had enough to drink yet.
And I agree with you actually. I don't want another Galaxy-wide conflict. Just keep the plotline more confined and give us interesting characters to interact with.

I would kill him with my own hands, then tear him apart and throw his corpse to the varren.

Rape by tentacles.

I'd have liked to just empty a machinegun into him for killing Thane.
I would have Miranda implant a chip to his brain and then have Garrus implant a small explosive in the stomach. After the successful procedure, EDI would take control of his body while he still has full awareness of what's going on around him. Then in the final mission, I choose him as a squad mate along with Kaiden so when the time comes Kaiden leaves on the Normandy and Kai Leng continues advancing towards the beam. This would also provide useful during the confrontation with the Illusive Man since EDI has full control, The Illusive Man can't mind control him; thus allowing Kai Leng to stab the Illusive Man before Shepard is forced to shoot Anderson. Just as the Illusive Man is about to die, he stares at Kai Leng with a look of confusion/humiliation.
As the Illusive Man begins to speak his last words, a RENEGADE option appears which if chosen; Shepard cuts him off with: "How do you like my new b**ch, I haven't given him a name yet.... I know, how about 'Failure'?" at this point, Kai Leng looks away in disgrace and The Illusive Man dies.
Now that Anderson is ok, he "takes 5" while Shepard and Leng ride the floating platform up to the godchild where you can have EDI send him over the edge into the Synthesis Beam, OR you can have EDI put his body in lockdown and then position him next to the Destroy location allowing Shepard and Anderson to get off the Citadel and remotely detonate the explosive. And when the Red shockwave is about to hit, Anderson and Shepard high-five just as they are enveloped in the redness.
If you could choose something other than the relatively quick and painless death that Kai Leng got at the END of ME3, what would it be?
After all, the only "choice" your given in-game is: To Break his Sword, or Not to Break his Sword...
I figured after incapacitating him, slice his hands off with the Omni-blade, slap on just enough omni-gel to keep him alive, and deliver him alive to Aria T'Loak personally to decide his fate.
Note: I didn't care much for Thane...
(lol @ post but I'm going to seriously answer)
I can't really see interrupts as clearcut as a deliberate choice to not break the sword.
It's more a check whether you/your Shepard is fierce enough to do something more violent, or whether you'd like to try another way. Both to same ends *usually*, but they define you and/or your Shepard as a certain type of person.
I was really hoping for some head decapitating action while Kai Leing was on his knees, but I suppose that would have been to graphic for a 'light' M for mature game.
After all, the only "choice" your given in-game is: To Break his Sword, or Not to Break his Sword...
What would have been cool is if: Not to Break his Sword was chosen, the sword would then appear on a mantle in Normandy's cabin for the rest of the game and in future playthroughs (like the model ships)
Turn him into C-Sec for cyber bullying.
Lol.
To get his throat slit by the REAL (Retribution) Kai Leng after botching the Citadel coup.
And this. I was looking forward to facing him after reading Retribution.
Oh, same here. I was pumped and that KL reveal trailer had me real excited. I loved his look. Unfortunately, the character didn't get brought in well due to changing writers. He should have been dogging Shepard the whole time, like a badass who has to be ducked until you're fully prepared. Gogandantess style.Lol.

I would beat him up badly then ground him up into a fine pink powder.
