Either you chose to side with mages or the templars you fight meredith at the end. I think the following senarios would have been better:

Side with templars:
You, your companions, and the fellow templars fight your way through inside Gallows to finish the mages. Your sibiling, if he/she is alive by this point, will join you to fight in which ever side you chose. You reach Orsino, who turns into gigantic abomination(stronger than the one he turns into in the game).  After a fierce battle, Meredith attemps to kill him, but he still has enough strength to beat her down. She tosses her sword at you at the last moment, telling you to finish it you use Meredith's Lyrium sword to finish Orsino.

Side with mages:
After falling back to inner Gallow Orsino says he sensed Meredith is not her self anymore. He says he will help you to get to her. After reaching Meredith, you see Cullen objecting with Meredith on killing the mages. She completely loses it, and calls Maker to give her strength. Orsino at this point uses his spell to suppress her strength, which he succedes, but it took all his power to do so, and Meredith uses this moment to kill Orsino. After fierce battle, Meredith's sword breaks, and all the lyrium disintergrates her into dust.

So yeah, which ever side you choose, the major character from your side makes sacrifice to kill the other one.
How do you guys think the main plot should've ended?

The red lyrium pretty much kills the first suggestion.Meredith is insane after all.

The second one is better and could have been a viable option.
