You can download content to a flash drive on your xbox right now. Today. And not even the Xbox One, the 360. So you'd be driving to the store to get literally the exact same product for a much greater price.

Following the same logic why not just pirate the game? youd get the same content for free and get it digitally too

I'm not a fan of disks anymore. I rather have a digital version. I prefer Steam, though. Running more than one DRM client gets annoying. So I tend to avoid Origin (which I currently use for ME3 only), UPlay, etc. Steam is improved over the years, although their customer service is still crap. Their other services are OK. Installing disks is annoying, because most of the time you also need to figure out where to get the last patch and install that separately. Some require you to install a DRM client to download the patch (or even the game) anyway. It's also hard to get a disk replacement if it is damaged.

Edit: To answer your question... For those with no or bad connections, I think there still should be disks available. Because I have a good connection, doesn't mean the rest of the world has.

Pirating really has utterly nothing to do with this whatsoever.

A person would purchase a product digitally instead of pirating it because it's not theft and not illegal. Simple as that. It's a mutual agreement between the user and the developer.

The exact same reasons a person would buy any product instead of stealing it.

... OP if you were in the general vicinity and I had a glove I would gloveslap your ass. Yes disks are still necessary ffs. There's a world beyond America/Europe. Not having internet is a thing. Having capped internet is a thing. Having a internet speed of 100kb/s is a thing. As far as I know Bioware's games are pretty big and I'd prefer not having to wait a week for my shiny new game too finish downloading. Or, more likely, having to restart the download on day three because the internet crashed.

Pffft. First worlders. <_<

The point, totally missing it

What im trying to say is that people (or most people i guess) prefer having a physical item they can touch instead of a collection of zeroes and ones on a hard drive, and in the case of games, movies, books or music albums - its something you can put on a shelf and show to your friends.

But hell, i still have my original DooM floppy disk so what do i know

'They' is the people who consider physical discs a necessity. Or at least valuable enough to forgo the benefits of digital distribution.

Efficiency always wins. I can't think a single product in history that remained in mass use despite a clearly more efficient alternative with no drawbacks aside a lack of familiarity and nostalgia.

Yep. People gave up their vinyl records with interesting covers and physical presence and ability to show to your friends and decorate your house for tiny computer chips. They gave those up, and they'll give up video game discs.

Let me make a guess - you have never in your life collected anything, and you also feel no pleasure in unwrapping a gift

The problem for me isn't the digital download in itself but the fact that we will be screwed the day a company decide to pull support for their more ancient games. Nostalgia will prevent this from happening since many sites like GoG still sells many of the games from the early 90's however if one day ten or twenty years or so from now Steam goes down or is changed over to another format it might not be possible to get everything back.

I even lost one game or expansion like this once with Neverwinter Nights 2, I brought the expansion that were made by a different company and only sold online but the site I brought it from no longer exist and if I ever want to play Mysteries of Westgate again I will have to pay for it I suspect.

With a disc however you will always have the game stored yourself without being dependent on that a server will stay online forever. If all Digital Downloads came in the form that GoG release their games this wouldn't be a problem since we can just store the files somewhere or even burn it on a dvd on our own to make sure it's safe but until that happens I'm never going to trust digital sales completely.

People still use Vinyls, and CD's, and a small percentage even use cassetes. This is the problem with assuming everyone is exactly like the people you apparently use to make these judgements. It's the mentality that has basically ruined the world as it is today.

Should there BE disk copies of DAI?

Yes. While digital downloads have become a much greater(and more earth-friendly) choice, some people either don't have internet connections, don't want to deal with DRM, or a number of other reasons. So yes, there should. It's feasible that they might go down the road of digital-only in the future, but for now I find the possibility very doubtful for DA:I.

OP should really know that other countries exist in the world, not only the USA. And they have much less income and much worse internet connections.

This is odd first because the OP didn't even mention the US, and because the US has fairly poor internet speeds in comparison to Europe. Go blame the EU.
