Why did they keep the same voice actor for MaleShepard?

Meer could be the greatest guy on the planet, and I'm sure he is, but he can't act.

Uh, anyone listen to the Muppets after their creator's death? Not the same. But, yeah, continuity.

Mark Meer is a heck of a guy. I've done improv with him, and I've spoken with him on many occasions. He is about as big a geek as once can get, and from what I've heard, he enjoyed voicing Shepard (and several other characters in ME2). He is capable of much more expression than you can hear in the ME1 dialogue, but don't you think that if he was really as bad as some people claim that we would have kept him on? That the VO director wouldn't change his read during his recording sessions or give him directions to, in essence, "act better?"

Would it make you feel better to know that, for better or worse (depending on how you enjoyed the Shepard VO in ME1), Meer's and Hale's reads on ME2 are more similar while not diminishing either actor's awesomeness?

I enjoyed Meer's voiceover work for Shepard and hardly found it lacking. Maybe because I've spent alot of my life around military types, but I believed he was a military officer. Your not supposed to get real emotional anyways. Nut up or shut up, that sort of thing. I remember the bit where if your Sole Survivor and you meet Toombs, the dialogue that followed, Shepard really sounded like the events still traumatized him. Very convincing for me. But hey, everyone's got an opinion. Unfortunately.

I liked Male Sheps voice. He was wooden at times but overall he did a good job. Not bad enough to take me out of the game by any means. And I love Hale, but her work was probably the same level. I think the voice directing was more the issue, you can really tell the difference between earlier Bioware games (KOTOR, JE etc )and the newer ones, like ME and (especially) Dragon Age. They always improve, and I expect it be improved in ME2 as well.

I'd have to agree with this after what I've seen as well..

Half the guys on this board are probably bird chested girly men, so they don't like seeing "alpha males" in their games; probably on account of terrible memories of being picked on by jocks at high school Image IPB

Huh, I rather liked Mr. Meer, I thought he was awesome. I will admit, he is a much better voice for the renegade options. I didn't dislike Hale's FemShep, I just don't think it fit how she looked is all. Because of her voice, I just couldn't bring myself to do a full playthrough as a FemShep. My two cents.

Can you imagine the insane outrage if they repaced Mark Meer, he did a phenomneal job stepping in and voicing the hardest thing possible, The Player Character. I bet anyone they replaced him with would be instantly hated, and debated about for years.

It goes back to the Ken/Ryu theorem. Ryu is a misanthropic loner, and Ken gets laid. Many gamers love Ryu. This is because they're jealous of Ken.

I preferred Meer's work over Hale's. A woman can sound authoritive without sounding like a man.

Would certainly explain much of the man-hate toward Thane, I think.

I don't know this Carth character, but... Kaidan and Alistair alpha males? Lol! Try again.

I quite like Alistair, and Kaidan is a fine character in his own right,  but "alpha males" they certainly aren't! Zevran is more of an "alpha" than Alistair, and that's saying something.

As good as he is, I can't help but wonder how entertaining Adam Baldwin would be in his place. I mean, Jayne from Firefly as Shepard...what part of that wouldn't be cool? Can't wait to see how he did with Kal'Reegar.

What part? Everything perhaps? Not everyone is a Firefly fan.

This. Adam Baldwin is good on Chuck, and hopefully is cool as Kal'Reegar, but I DO NOT WANT him as my main char

Chris Barrie has as much right to voice Shepard as that guy. Hes a guy from a sci-fi comedy I like. How about that instead?

:o
Rimmer? You, my friend, are awesome!

I support his inclusion in ME 1000% esp. if he's a V.I.

The guy is so god damned deadpan it hurts.  There was no imation to his voice acting at all.  Happy, sad, lustfull all sounded the same...  My main Shepard was FemShepard mostly since she was actually voiced well.  God I hope the voice actor dose better this time.

really, I found it to be the exact opposite, my female shepard was flat and boring where the male shepard had a much better performance

lol, you'd have to be pretty pathetic to be jealous of kaiden/alistar for being "alpha male manly men"...
Most of the female characters have more masculinity than they do!

Mordigan, you're an ass. <_< A friend of mine hanged himself in his room a few years ago because of that. It's not something you should take so lightly. Grow up, you idiot.

I personally thought Mark Meer did a great job (as did Hale) and I am officially a fan, especially after finding out he does improv and sketch because I do too. :)

Continuity. Also, I like Mark Meer. His voice is gritty and his deadpan actually ads to Shep. Some of the lines Shep says just wouldn't be as funny if Meer used extremely heavy inflection. Sheps backgrounds could also explain this for all you Meer haters out there. Sole Survivor, War Hero and Renegade Sheps have all seen some pretty brutal action in their lives. I don't know how many of you have known veterans, but the 1000 yard stare is a real thing and "deadpan" is pretty common.

The shep VA's do a really good job, I think. They have to adopt a somewhat neutral voice so that many different looking Sheps seem to have appropriate voices. I think that Hale probably has a more difficult job with the VA, myself, as she has to voice a convincing female marine while also maintaining that neutrality.

Lets see.  Kaidan is an N7 Marine, so that doesn't constitute an alpha male?

And Alistair is a Grey Warden...  Personality wise they may not be alpha males, but virtue of their profession, they are..

Anyway, if Kaidan and Alistair were real, it's most likely that their personalities would be very different from that portrayed in the game.  Men like them, tend to be far more confident and aggressive..

Kaidan isn't actually an N7. And Alistair's never licked a lamp post in winter.
