The guy is so god damned deadpan it hurts.  There was no imation to his voice acting at all.  Happy, sad, lustfull all sounded the same...  My main Shepard was FemShepard mostly since she was actually voiced well.  God I hope the voice actor dose better this time.

I like him. He has an authoritarian sort of sounding voice. Besides removing the voice actor on a game which is supposed to span a trilogy would annoy more people than it would pleasing the vocal minority.

And Alistair's never licked a lamp post in winter.

***DA:O SPOILERS!!***

That one line alone makes it worth it to romance Alistair. He's whiny (reminiscent of Carth, maybe?) but he's easily my favorite Bioware romance so far, with Carth coming in second. With them, it's not so much 'alpha', but Carth is older and experienced while Alistair is super endearing and stands up to the task if you make him king.

Lets see.  Kaidan is an N7 Marine, so that doesn't constitute an alpha male?

And Alistair is a Grey Warden...  Personality wise they may not be alpha males, but virtue of their profession, they are..

Anyway, if Kaidan and Alistair were real, it's most likely that their personalities would be very different from that portrayed in the game.  Men like them, tend to be far more confident and aggressive..

Uh, Kaidan wasn't a N7. He also wasn't assertive in the least. The same goes doubly for Alistair.

And their profession and any sort of hypothesis about real life equivalents doesn't come into it.

Both were unassertive followers at heart, and knew it. Ashley was more of an alpha than Kaidan. Just about every other joinable NPC was more assertive than Alistair.

Sten and the secret NPC were the closest to other alpha males in the DA:O "squad".

I thought the male voice actor was good. After playing with a female Shepard for awhile, I found the voice acting always aggressive and ****y, which became aggravating. I blame the Director as Jennifer Hale is an excellent voice actor.

edit: why is b-i-t-c-h-y censored?

Mordigan is a piece of sh*t, Marlina, and has only seemed to become even more of a repulsive festering pile since the move to the new forums. An utterly pathetic troll who is always trying to make waves. Try to ignore him as he seems to get off on the negative attention.

I have to say, although i think Hale did about 1000X better (I'm biased since I grew up listening to her in cartoons), imo it's because the character model actions during dialogue weren't that amazing. Meer came off as flat and wooden because the character model came off as flat and wooden. I still think, even though I have no proof, that the female models had better facial expressions and range, they seemed more natural which is a big part of the whole package.

With ME2 and it's supposed increase in dialogue animations I believe Meer will come off much better, as Male shep in the first game looked like a doll whereas I thought femsheps looked much more realistic in their range and static expressions.

Meer's at his best with the renegade options. Otherwise, he sounds kind of lifeless.

Yeah I also think that the voicing and acting (on the in-game models part) will most likely be sooooo much better this time around

Mark Meer was great in ME1. I don't expect that to change in ME2.

I think Templeman should voice Shep instead of some random volus.

Like him more than Jennifer Hale as Shepard... Hale's good but don't like FemShep VOs. Of course the voice actors have to be kept... doesn't need explaining.

I just hope that this Image IPB
doesn't become the norm for facial expressions in ME2 :P

Kaidan wasn't an N7?  Strange, since he served under Commander Shepard, and was an officer himself.  If Kaidan wasn't N7, then what was he?   A regular Marine?  That doesn't make any sense to me, and is probably just a logic quirk in the game.

And their profession and any sort of hypothesis about real life equivalents doesn't come into it.

You've obviously never been around Military guys before.....especially elite forces Military guys..  And you can't say that real life doesn't have any impact, because it does.  This game draws heavily from the real world for inspiration.

Both were unassertive followers at heart, and knew it. Ashley was more of an alpha than Kaidan. Just about every other joinable NPC was more assertive than Alistair

Yes and Bioware had their motivations for "castrating" Kaidan and Alistair.  For one, they were romanceable by FemShep (female PC), and although a lot of women love the dominant alpha male types, many women are turned off by them....until the alpha male learns to increase his sensitivity around them, then he becomes perfect.

Also, making Alistair and Kaidan more dominant (or true to life) would take the shine off the PC..

Just think, Kaidan was one rank under Shepard, so he should be capable of leading or commanding.  But this would have obviously contradicted the game's storyline.

LOL, I'm the troll, and yet you're the one who's cussing me out..  I could reply in a like minded manner of course, but since you're not worth the effort..

Actually, I'll just report you to the mods, and hope you get banned or something Image IPB

It's a matter of experience.

Hale has probably the most impressive VO resume under the sun. Mark Meer has little more than 7 last I checked (And most of those were Bioware).

Meer is good, much better than that douche nozzle that played Nathan Drake (Can't remember his name because that performance was so forgettable). And it's not always the VO's fault, sometimes direction sucks, if the character doesn't know where they're drawing the emotions for a particular line, it's a hundredfold more difficult. You ever hear the cliche'd "What's my inspiration for this scene" ?

Mark Meer is a heck of a guy. I've done improv with him, and I've spoken with him on many occasions. He is about as big a geek as once can get, and from what I've heard, he enjoyed voicing Shepard (and several other characters in ME2). He is capable of much more expression than you can hear in the ME1 dialogue, but don't you think that if he was really as bad as some people claim that we would have kept him on? That the VO director wouldn't change his read during his recording sessions or give him directions to, in essence, "act better?"

Would it make you feel better to know that, for better or worse (depending on how you enjoyed the Shepard VO in ME1), Meer's and Hale's reads on ME2 are more similar while not diminishing either actor's awesomeness?

I agree with you and I try to share this message most won't listen.

EDIT: Whoops.

The same applies for females with the female humans. Name characters more despised by hte female fanbase in ME then Ashley, Miranda, and Subject Zero.

I liked both of them, and TBH the only people who really seem to have a problem with him are whining FemShep fans, not because he is bad, but because he's not a girl.

Lol, at the german forums we've quite the opposite argument, since they changed his voice.

Proves my theory: Someone complains, no matter what.
