The funny thing was I always knew Bhelen would make a better king, his ideas and after playing the dwarf noble origin his ruthless intellect is what Orzammar needed. But yah know it was set up in such a traditional way that I just assumed putting Harrowmont on the throne would result in the Good Ending and then... it didn't. It was nice, definitely one of the better choices in DAO.

I loved how it wasn't simply a "black and white" choice. I'm glad Bioware incorporated the fact that just because a man has good intentions and it seems like the good choice to make, doesn't mean it's the right one.

In Mass Effect it's always black and white. Paragon desicions practically have no negative reprecussions. I'm glad DA:O had something a little different.

I think the jury is still out on who wound up being a better king. Both are examples of how to lead. One with compassion. The other with ambition. Harrowmont dies a good man. Bhelen lives to grow more corrupt.

But one was compassionate in a clearly broken system that continued to break and eventually reward his compassion with a knife in the back.

The other was dragging dwarven society to glory and a better way of like whether the upper classes and conservatives liked it or not.

Compassion? don't mistake blindly following the traditions and laws that are abusive as compassion sometimes features that peoples try put to character kills me.

Harrowmont is traditionalist that support abusive system and he support that nor for sake peoples just for sake tradition.Guy is di***

When behlen ruthless and selfish changes things for better not only for himself but others he reminds me one of ghouls from fallout 2 he was selfish but helping him establish peace with vault city lead to best ending.

Closing yourself in room with darkspawn and abuse your potential allies because of tradition lead to fall.As far behlen may be di*** but he at least managed achieve something hell even varric praised his actions harrowmont managed lead dwarves to situation even worse than before so in the end we have 2 di*** one abuses others gaining nothing second improve situation abused social class and managed to improve society and city.

So not good guys in that conflict only law vs chaos.

I actually went with Bhelen, I was having a hard time choosing who to rule and I was initially going with the choice of Harrowmont (being the good guy and all). But what made my choice was the comment Zevran made about him being a bad and weak ruler that helped me make up my mind.

I don't care . I'm there only for their help in fighting the darkspawn. I usually choose Harrowmont because his beard looks better.

Bhelen is a jerk, but imho, he is a better leader for his people. Harrowmont is weak.

Who did you guys choose to determine
the future of the dwarves? I'm curious to see how it will play out in
this game with the two different kings.
According to the end sequences
the Dwarves prosper with Bhelen and become cut off, isolationists with
Harrowmont.

I wasn't asking what will happen. Just asking who you chose.

I hate to say it, but you did ask what will happen. "How it will play out" is asking "What will happen"

Choose Bhelen

I tend to pick the experienced general and politician who deals straight with the Warden, over the pampered idiot prince who thinks he's subtle and starts out by trying to manipulate them.

Some of my characters choose differently, but I usually feel like I'm metagaming, except with my DN.

My Dalish picked Bhelen because she doesn't give a rats ass about dwarven traditions. She knows that, for change, you sometimes need a rough hand.

My Cousland picked Harrowmount because she considered his chivalrous nature to be of great value and the fact that she believed the former king wanted Harrowmount to be the next king. If the past king decided Harrowmount was a better king than his own son, he must've had his proper reasons. And she just hated Bhelen's rough ways.

I have other characters as well but these are my mains. My broscas obviously choose Bhelen and my Aeducans choose Harrowmount, though. But that's really, really obvious.

I don't know why everyone seem to presume a Aeducan warden would have fond feelings for Harrowmount. First of all she or he would know that Harrowmount is useless and I can't imagine the warden would be so spiteful she would see her entire people burn simply because her brother framed her.

Especially since that sort of thing is more or less how the dwarves work, Trian was blind in the way that he though honor was actually real among the dwarves instead of a concept they hide behind and use as a excuse to fight and muder when no one is looking. There are even rumors that their father had a role in his older brother's death as well before becoming king.

On Harrowmount though, we are speaking about the man who was unable to prevent the warden from being sentenced without a trial even though it's the LAW and the player was suppose to be popular among the Assembly . He was unable to make the assembly follow their own traditions and rules, what doesn't speak well for his leadership skills or influence. He is also trying to take the throne away from the Aeducan family and there is no proof that's actually what Endrin wanted.

Considering my dwarf nobles tend to have a low opinion of Trian I always choose Bhelen. No matter what else happend it's still her house and I think some of my warden's might even be proud of her little brother even if they want to strangle him at the same time.

I usually choose Bhelen after seeing the slides with him being the better king. With the DA2 import, it's implied that the last living Harrowmont flees to Kal-Sharok I think, so I hope we get to see it finally and see that dude again - assuming you aided his escape of course.

Compassionate? Harrowmont?

If you give him the Anvil, he sends an army of golems to kill every man, woman and child in Dusttown. That's a funny version of compassion.

I have always went with Bhelen, but I have an unfinished Dwarf Noble playthrough, and if I ever finish it, this choice is going to be hard. Harrowmont makes a lousy (and if the Anvil is preserved, genocidal) king, but Bhelen is a lousy son and brother, and I doubt my Aeducan Warden would want him on the throne, even though Bhelen ends up being the one of the best things ever happen to Orzammar post-Blights (and he ends up pissing off the Nobles, which is always a plus in by book).

Then again, if a lousy person makes a great king... the greater good and all that.

My City Elf was a ruthless bi*** and picked Bhelen *and* gave him the Anvil. I felt that Orzammar needed to be stronger, Harrowmont was too hidebound in the traditions to deal with things that were changing. I loved the fact that the Church was thinking of moving against them (yeah, good luck with that!).

But that was one of a really great dilemma choice in the game. But a stronger/weaker Dwarven kingdeom will be interesting how it could affect things.

I felt like Orzammar needed some cleaning up from dusts but it didn't need to get stronger and endanger the weak state of Ferelden. So I picked Harrowmont in both my playthroughs.

My politics is better than yours. Agreed?

The Warden in my primary canon is a Brosca, so predictably he picked Bhelen for Rica's sake. The Warden in my secondary canon was a Cousland, and the rumors of Bhelen offing those he should've been closest to for political power struck too close to home, so she went with Harrowmont. In general, I think more of my Wardens chose Harrowmont than Bhelen because he presents himself as more friendly to the Warden, who in most cases has little knowledge of Dwarven politics.

I always go with Harrowmont, based mainly on the first impression I got when I entered the Commons and saw the cutscene confrontation between Bhelen and Harrowmont - Bhelen's a thug. The fact that Vartag quickly gets a nasty attitude when I tell him I have to think about it just reinforces my opinion of Bhelen.

As far as if Bhelen would be a better king because he's a "reformer"...I couldn't care less, they could put a bloody nug on the throne as long as I get my troops. Ooh, Bhelen is a reformer, he'll plant pretty flowers in Dustown and lead Orzammar into a new age of enlightenment. Bah, I don't care, just gimme my friggin' troops. If Harrowmont proves unworthy, you all can kill him and put somebody else on the throne...not my problem.
