Salarian. Elegant weapons....for a more civilized age.

+1 for the post
+2 for the reference.

Even the geth looks really futuristic though.
Wallhax, overload to cripple machines and organics, deploayble healing turret with powerful flamethrower and pulse cannon and finally energy pulse melee.

Say it to your friends, GC-V and IA-4.

Actually I like QME, but he feels more like Quarian Marine than like Engi.

Most engineers feel like either nade spammers or elemental-space-magicians (or both). Which engineer feels like the "real" futristic combat engineer?

For me it's a tie between Vengie and Sabo.

My 26566 quarksman is also quite "engineer'ish", because he is a quarian, all quarians are engineers...

I feel that a "real" futuristic combat engineer would actually build stuff that is useful to his/her allies, while carrying a gun. Or make liberal but precise use of explosions while building useful stuff. Which is pretty close to what real present day combat engineers do.

Demolisher comes closest to this, IMO.

The engineers who fire out elemental effects seem more like superheroes to me. Which has zero impact on how fun it is to play them, but that's just how they seem to me.

To me, he feels a little bit like a forward combat controller (although the Quarian Infiltrator fits that role closer).

And he repairs stuff.

I get the sense that, for the rest of the Cerberus forces, the Engineer is kinda like "that IT guy."

I don't need incendiary ammo IV to kill the hell out of everything with the QME. It's a nice luxury on bosses but everything is dead so damn fast when I play him anyways it's not a fair kit. HE is a good kit as well but more dependent on CDs. I don't consider it to be a fair fight when I use the kit particularily if Cerbs or Geth drop as the faction.

I'd actually say the Turian Saboteur. He deploys his own turret, which is an easily believable weapon in the future. He is able to sabotage enemy electronics and even machines (geth, atlas, turrets). Sure, he has grenades, but even they are kind of tech. A true engineer in my opinion.

Well now.... Deploying one turret is easily believable.  The ability to conceivably throw out infinite turrets every 2 seconds is kinda not believable.

But actually, that gives me an idea...  BW should have created a class with a turret that is actually really powerful (maybe not Cerberus-turret level, but something that enemies would fear), and made it a grenade-based power.  Limit it to having only a single turret deployed at once.  They could have made it a burst weapon as a base, with R4 evolutions to increase damage/shields or increase grenade cap, R5 evolutions to be either increased Armor Damage or Shield/Barrier Damage.  And best of all, instead of the Flamer/Rocket evolution, R6 would be either conversion to full auto (3-second burst, 3-second cooldown) or to a "shotgun" turret with a 30 RPM fire rate.  Would have been perfect for the Volus Sentinel.

Best would be Volus Merc - not technically an "Engineer", but commands both a Drone and Turret in combat. Turian Saboteur is also the best, hacking synthetics with Sabotage while controlling a Turret.

Any class that controls a pet like Combat Drone, Sentry Turret, and Decoy fit my criteria for an Engineer. Sabotage and Overload help define an Engineer but does not solely create an Engineer.

Probably a tie between the Geth or Salarian, they both
just feel a lot like how single-player made me feel Engineers
*should* feel. Good detonating powers and pets.

...My favourite is the Male Quarian though, I'm a sucker for
his grenades.

It's just as cheap as any OP infiltrator. Complete easy mode... It scores a crap ton of points too.
