@dragonflight2899: to be clear, while the leak 'supposed' source is months before the announcement of DAI (I don't remember red templars being nominated before the PAX demo), there isn't a direct link to the post, only a gif which could be easily fake. And the first time the leak was shown here or in any site, it was after the PAX demo (and the London presentation, so someone who assisted to either presentation could've created that 'leak'. Consider that two of the supposed allies of the Inquisition are named after items shown in the PAX presentation, but in completely different contexts). it seems strange to me that nobody knew about the leak (which were supposed to posted in the internet months before the pax demo) until after the PAX demo.

as for people being able to differentiate between Templars & Red Templars. if you're relaxing in your backyard and enjoying a beer or whatever, and lets say... all of a sudden you see armed troops wearing SAS commando garb (for the sake of this discussion assume you know what sas uniforms look like) shooting up your street would you assume they aren't british commandos?

It depends on you really, what would you rather go for: security or freedom. Personally I would choose mages really, cause I don't see Templars shooting lightning from their hands.

I will always choose freedom over security, for my part.

So I will support freedom for mages, even though my Warden and Hawke were both fairly religious individuals.  Of course that also means that both my protagonists were willing to take out a blood mage and not give it a second thought.

ETA: Unless somebody seriously wrong my player personally.  In which case I invoke my own personal rule about RPGs: always pursue a personal vendetta against the people who harm you.  It's the reason I chose the rebels in TES V: Skyrim.  The empire tried to personally harm me, so I repaid the favor to all involved.

*shrug* Whether it's true or not ultimately doesn't matter at present, as you said, it could easily have been faked, but if it is true then that would mean the Red Templars are just as bad as the worst Tevinter Magister, and the average person wouldn't see past the sword of mercy on their armor, same as a regular templar would have and wouldn't differentiate between them.

Whether it's true or not, we'll find out when the game comes out, and I'm willing to buy and play the game to find out. If it isn't true, then awesome, and if it is true then I'm sure many people will be upset that the templars, or at least the red templars, would be made the bad guys and effectively turned into Cerberus in ME3.

If mages are given freedom, it'll likely turn into another version of the tevinter imperium where slavery & blood magic is encouraged. Will be alot of abominations caused by all the untrained mages too

Says who? Most mages don't want another Tevinter, most just want to be left alone and enough time has passed since Tevinter was driven out of the South that they now have a completely different culture.

And there would only be a lot of untrained mages running around if all the trained mages are in hiding or killed. If they had a base of operations, legitimate facilities, and say a templar squad on the grounds with much more limited power compared to what they have now, those same mages would have a place to train, the mages could be more or less autonomous, and security can still be maintained.

@dragonflight2889: regardless if the leak is true or not, I doubt that the red templars are good guys, or even morally grey. The PAX demo shown enough on this matter.
I'd be disappointed only if the red templars rapresent all/the majority of templars, since I want that the conflict between mages and templars to be as 'grey' as possible. Though for the moment I don't think the RT rapresent the majority of templars, considering what Bioware said about the conflict (plus my theory about the rings in the first concepts).

I agree with you, I don't think they represent the majority of templar either.

My point I was trying to make is that the average villager in Ferelden or Orlais will take one look at the Red Templars slaughtering people and burning down villages and all they'll see is the Templar armor, and won't tell the difference.

Since SAS uniforms are almost identical to normal british military uniforms, then no I wouldn't assume it was british special forces.

And Red Templars appears to be distinctly different in appearance to normal Templars. The red glow around them springs to mind.

Nah, then they were just accompanied by a giant horribly mutated creature.

We have known about the Red Templars ever since the first gameplay trailer last year (which was in February if I recall correctly)

Do you have a link to any Feburary 2012 [since you said last year - I think you mean this year though] DAI gameplay trailers featuring Red Templars?

Hold on, there were no Red Templar mentionings in any gameplay trailers...right? Not until the PAX Prime stuff.

I am talking about the gameplay trailer/walkthrough not the reveal trailer. But I cannot remember which month it was released.

PAX Prime, when we watched the Inquisitor go through Crestwood? That was the end of August.

That's right - from what I remember anyway - so I think the spoliers have a good chance of being legit. :)

Could have sworn I saw a 30 minute piece MUCH earlier than August.

I highly doubt that the spilers are legit. Particularly becasue it is Mass Effect 3's plot just in a DA setting, and it seems to go against everyhting BioWare has said the game would be about. The "leak" says that you have to gather your forces and defeat the big bad, BioWare has specifically said that DA:I would be more about investigating and finding out who the big bad is, and then finding out how to take him down.

I don't mind spoilers - I looked at most of ME3's before the game was out.

Hang on here. The first piece of anything we got was the reveal trailer with Morrigan during E3 in June.  After that was the Gamescom Trailer. Then we had PAX Prime.

Ah yes, it was the other "leak" that was earlier last year (the one with the pictures with giant scorpions and ****).
