It depends on how overpowered your melee build is by itself to determine which shotgun to use. If your using a batarian gauntlet that hinders mobility(which is pretty fun to use) i suggest using either the Venom or Raider. But if you want to use powers more but with strength enhancer IV's and Omniblade V's attached then you'd probably want a Katana or Disciple.

I actually found a nifty trick with the Krogan and Bat glove; if you're
storming and press the melee button, you do the normal charge melee
that the Krogan has without the glove, but the charge has the same
damage, sound effect of impact, and decapitating ability as the normal
charge-and-punch Bat glove melee, so loss of mobility isn't a *huge* problem.

I find the Venom to be the most effective for my playstyle especially on the Drell Vanguard w/ bat glove and Melee GI builds. Cryo also extremely useful for crowd control and adds some survivability especially with the GI.

I barely fire my gun with the Krogan Sentinel, honestly. Melee gear/mods plus omni blade and Adrenaline are all I need. Pimp slap all the things! I think he currently has Crusader equipped, but I change it out all the time based on mood or which one I'm working on for Shotgun Mastery. Raider and Claymore are pretty common choices too. Since I'm running him with no cooldowns, I'll also pack a Typhoon or Widow for hacks/escorts and boss enemies I don't want to get up close to. So smart choke isn't needed. I'm either point-blank or I switch weapons.

Don't have the Venom unlocked unfortunately.

Venom... Or if you're going with something you want a fast cooldown on for melee & powers, then Disciple since it staggers on the first shot. Wraith/Piranha is a good middle ground.
