My Warden was a mistrustful, blunt and unfriendly Dalish, who had a big heart where elves were concerned, and nothing but disinterest for human struggles. The only human member of her party she actually likes is Morrigan, and manages to ****** off most of the others by defiling the Ashes and conscripting Loghain, among other things. She does mellow out a bit in Awakening, and gain a slightly snarky sense of humour, but her cold morality doesn't ease up. Her closest friend is easily Velanna, but she does get attached to Zevran, Morrigan, Shale and Sten over time.

My Hawke was a pleasant, charming and flirtatious mage, who would have sold almost anyone down the river for a little political power and prestige. In fact, he does, since he sides with Meredith against his fellow mages, and becomes Viscount. As far as he's concerned, it's the only way to protect himself from the harshness of life, and the more he loses, the more single-minded his desire for power becomes. He's pleasant to pretty much everyone, even when he's screwing you over, but is genuinely loyal to the people he cares about, such as Leandra, Carver, Fenris and Isabela.

For a slight change of pace, I want my female Qunari inquisitor to be motivated towards helping all people, seeking peace, order and justice. She's going to have a slightly stiff and awkward personality though, not quite sure how she fits into human society, and sometimes will seem overly hard and unbending in her morals. I'm also hoping for a couple of oddball humour moments.

I always play neutral good with tendance Lawful good. In roleplaying , mainly I choose paladin. In DAo first charachter was a noble fighter with mainly influence when I speak ( CHA), and I have choosen every time to do the good except once the dark ritual though the first time I refused the bid of Moriganne, the second time I accept it.
In DA2, I choose a mage but he was mainly good killed evil mage and and the end I choose the mage because even Meredith has right about the mage are dangerous, kill them all because once did the wrong thing is evil. If she choose to inclose all in a jail or banish them, I would range with her.
In DAI, I will choose a knight again and play like a paladin.

DAO: A kind and honorable man, my Warden grimly accepted his duty as a Grey Warden despite having full knowledge of Rendon Howe's involvement in the butchering of his house and family. Although the notion that Howe eluded justice for his monstrous crimes sickened him, my Warden understood that the Darkspawn threat had to take precedence over his vendetta with Howe. Valiant and compassionate, he was very much the example of a heroic figure.

DA II: A former soldier, Hawke deserted his post after narrowly surviving the bloody massacre of Cailan and his army at Ostagar. Experiencing the terrifying power of the Darkspawn firsthand, Hawke didn't give a second thought to the fate of Ferelden and its people, opting to conserve his energy and resources to ensure his family found shelter from the encroaching horde. Despite his preference for the loner lifestyle, Hawke is overall a kind and gentle man. To him, family always comes first - everything else is secondary.

DAI: An unyielding man with an iron will, my Inquisitor believes the laws of the land must be strictly obeyed and enforced if order is to be maintained in the realm. By no means a cruel person, his zealous obsession with justice isolates him from his peers, who think of him as a cold and bitter man. To him the law is the only thing that matters, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure those laws are preserved and followed...no matter the cost.

So I guess my Warden is the selfless hero, Hawke is the isolated family man who wants to be left out of the spotlight, and my Inquisitor is an obsessive, zealous "Knight's Templar". =p

I have several Wardens and Hawkes. Cousland female, Amell female, Tabris female. But I'll go with the one I most consider 'canon' since in many ways they're quite similar.

DAO: Female Amell spirit healer/arcane warrior. She sees some merits of the Circle in that its supposed to train and protect mages from potentially hostile mundanes. However she strongly opposes the idea of the Templars and Chantry being in charge. She abhors the lack of family visits, non-marriage without special permission and loathes the idea that if a female mage gets pregnant her baby is stolen from her by force by the Chantry. Essentially Amell sees the Circle as a cage and mages as slaves. Despite this my Amell betrays Jowan/Lily to Irving though this is mostly due to self-preservation. Like it or not she's a slave of the Circle and must do what the can for her own survival.

She jumps at the chance to go with Duncan and become a Grey Warden because she feels service in a military Order with such a noble purpose in battling Darkspawn is a far better life and a chance to properly train her powers. My Amell is shocked by the heavy price of the Joining. Near-total infertility and a greatly shortened lifespan. She decides that she must try to help/save every innocent life as possible whilst defeating the Blight to make up for the price of being tainted. So she sides with the mages, she saves Redcliff, Isolde and Connor. She doesn't taint the ashes. She destroys the Anvil and puts Bhelen on the throne. She persuades Zathrien to end the werewolf curse. She doesn't take Caladrius' blood magic ritual on the captured Elves.

In the Landsmeet she believes Rioden when he says there is a 'compelling reason' to have Loghain as a Warden. She has Alistair marry Anora to rule jointly. She refuses the Dark Ritual and ends up feeding Loghain to the archdemon to redeem himself and spare her life. She asks for mage freedom as her boon. Later she fully upgrades Vigil's Keep, saves Amaranthine, kills both the Architect and the Mother. Spares Morrigan at the Eluvian. My Amell tries to save everyone and do the right thing. Has a casual fling with Zevran, no serious romances.

DA2: Sword/Shield female warrior Hawke. Her personality is diplomatic/helpful though occasionally she'll make a sarcastic or aggressive response. With a father and sister as apostate mages Hawke is always sympathetic to them. She doesn't particularly like Kirkwall and mostly stays because of her mother. She soon reaches the opinion that it's just another city like any other and settles in. Because of her sympathy towards mages, Hawke usually sides with them and tries to help them. She's very protective of Bethany and her general dislike of Templars turns to hate when they take Bethany away after the expedition to the Deep Roads. Hawke mostly tries to keep order in Kirkwall because its her home and she prefers that it stays as stable and safe as possible. When the Qunari attack she shows no mercy and slaughters the Arishok and his men since Isabella absconded with their book. (Not that she'd have given it to them anyway as she dislikes the Qun intensely.)

Later on Hawke consistently sides with the mages though she's tempted to start turning on them after her mother is killed. But in the end she hates the Templars who kidnapped and imprisoned Bethany too much to side with them for a moment. She does become frustrated in Act 3 as both sides seem to be heading for an inevitable violent conflict. She's surprised when Anders eventually blows up the Chantry and doesn't approve of what he did even if she understands why. Nevertheless she spares him and has him work with her to defend the mages as a means of beginning to atone for what he did. Hawke is glad to side against Meredith and the Templars at the end. Overall, like my Warden, Hawke tries to be good and do the right thing but she's much more selfish in her motives. She romances Fenris despite clashing with him about his hatred of mages a few times.

DA:I: The game isn't out yet so I really can't say what my Inquisitor will be like. She'll most likely be a female human warrior or mage, again trying for the good/save as many people as she can path.

My warden was a female dalish elf, had some issues trusting humans but grown to trust her human companions, is proud to be dalish, is respectful of nature and is pretty religious but not totally traditionally religious. she is a rouge, switches between two daggers and bow and arrow. very good willed and very charismatic and persuasive. is loyal and proud to be a grey warden. has a sense of duty. mostly conceded about the darkspawn then the mage/templar conflict. best friend and jokes around with alister. falls in love with leliana.

My hawke is a rouge female. dosnt take life seriously at all most of the time. jokes around, is sarcastic and witty. enjoys getting money. but at the same time is pretty emotionally intelligent and wants to do the right thing because she generally likes people and thinks they deserve more chances. kinda laid back in a sense. is very very defensive of her family. often is aggressive when talking about them with others that take issue. but also a trouble maker when someone isn't going to die. gives aveline head aches but always manages to win her love back. is best friends with varric and romances isabela - loves isabela's sense of freedom.

so my warden is more serious and my hawke is a goofball.  they wouldn't dislike each other but i imagine they'd have arguments and get annoyed of each other every now and then if they met. they share the goal of striving to do "what is right" and helping people. also both rouges.

i'm really not 100% sure what my inquisitor is going to be like, but i know she is going to be a quinari. more than likely a rouge also…but a mage would be cool too. i think she's going to think a lot. like she's all about trying to make the right decision, and being unbiased but is conflicted. yeah idk i'll just have to see when time gets closer.

thanks for this thread. i love hearing about others characters and writing about mine. :)

Dragon age Origins: Miora Amell; Shapeshifting Arcane Warrior. Miora is my Canon warden, and tried very hard to do what was right during the blight; curing the dalish, trying to save the circle, though irving was killed during the boss fight, and sometimes she messed up (ex. Conner) but as time went on, she began to realize that doing what was best isn't always what is considered "right" and by the time she made it to Orzamar she was pragmatic enough to place Behlen on the throne, but she still did away with the Anvil of the Void. She romanced Alistair, though that came to an end at the landsmeet when she spared Loghain. All in all, Miora went through an insane amount of stuff, but still kept her grip on right and wrong. She is anti chantry, though not exactly anti-circle and is very anti blood magic.

Dragon Age 2: Zephyra Hawke; blood and force mage. Zephyra is a snarky, brash and ruthless revolutionary. She is a survivor and will do what she must to keep herself and those around her safe. She openly despises both the circle and the chantry, and dislikes both Meredith and Orsino. Meredith  for being a paranoid bigot and Orsino for barely protecting those under his care. Still, when the time comes, she sides with the mages and runs off with Anders once the fighting is done. During her time in Kirkwall, she became good friends with Varric and Isabella, had a pretty intense rivalry with Avilene and hated Sebatian's guts. She and Fenris developed a respect for each other, born from many a drunken conversation/argument at his manor. As for Merril, she found her fairly annoying to be around and thought that her inability to see reason when it come to that maker- cursed mirror was infuriating.

Dragon Age Inquisition: Calista Levallan; elven blood mage. Calista is a far more cavalier than both Miora and Zephyra, though she has strong feelings when it comes to to three things: mage rights, elf rights and magisters. She also doesn't really care for the noble classes and revels in their discomfort when they have to adress her as an equal instead of some inferior sub-species. She likes flaunting her wealth, mostly in the form of elegant robes and special runes for her staff. Calista also has a soft heart beneath all the snark and sarcasm. I see her possibly getting romantically entangled with either Varric (if he is available)  or this Iron Bull person, but as more info comes out, that could be subject to change.

Well, thinking about it, my portrayal of the characters in-world vary quite a bit.

My Warden(s) is usually quite caring and trying to help people whenever possible. He/She's sophisticated and tries to believe in the best of people. Most of the time very polite, and funny whenever the situation's fitting (like joking around with Alistair, or trying to get through to Morrigan or Loghain, if I choose to save him).

Especially my main Warden, Amras Surana, was trying to be nice and caring, because he also meant to improve the public image of both the Grey Wardens and mages.

My Hawke, on the other side...

Marian Hawke has a mostly carefree, non-aggressive attitude, with a lot of sarcasm. (S)he was going with the flow, while trying to align it with what was her ultimate goal at that time. While she was annoyed when people asked her for help, she would eventually help them, simply to have something to do (and keep her mother from finding her a husband).

She cared greatly for her little sister, and loved teasing her (together with Isabela, and held feelings for Fenris, but eventually couldn't go through with it, because of his hate for mages and how distant he gave himself, so she eventually hooked up with Anders, trying to save him from himself.

About my Inquisitor I have nothing to say at the moment, simply because I couldn't play him yet, so how could I define his personality?

My grey warden was a randy human noble who was a very good guy, and diplomatic, but used his charm to bed many a lady. After bedding Morrigan and many an npc, Leliana won his heart. Had nookie with Morrigan for the ritual.

My Hawke was a sarcastic, charming funny sort who always sought to do the right thing. Not randy, but enjoyed isabela as his cuisine and had a brief fling with Tallis.

Dunno about my inquisitor. Probly much of the same but depending on how grey the choices are, he could be less good/bad and more pragmatic

My Warden was pragmatic with a good moral compass.  He wasn't one to sacrifice lives pointlessly.  His actions united the Templars and Mages, and saved the Dalish from Zathrian's curse.  Given the tactical advantage of Golems and the lives of volunteers or criminals being used to create them, he decided it was best to preserve the Anvil of the Void.  He only did things with good reason.

My Hawke started out as naive, often deflecting the truth of situations with humor.  As the years went on and he lost family, he became an angry and jaded individual.  He killed to prevent further loss and preserve peace, but it never came.

As for my Inquisitor, I don't know how I'll play him.  I would like to play as a Qunari Mage who acknowledges magic's inherent dangers and instead uses it to bolster his physical abilities, rather than rely on such unstable powers.  However this idea would require the return of the Arcane Warrior, so I'm not making any concrete plans as of yet.

My main warden had a ruthless edge. His family was decimated by Howe and he took that as a life lesson in what happens to the weak.

He seized the opportunity to rule and would broker no threat to the throne from Alistair despite their former bond.

My main Hawke on the otherhand was rather more happy go lucky. Position and responsibility was thrust upon him whereas he'd have much prefer a life of adventure on the high seas with his Isabela.

Will need to see inquisitor backgrounds before he/she takes shape.

I like reading this kinda stuff. Not really sure why. Its just interesting reading other peoples takes on the characters. Mine are very different.

My canon goes as:

Warden Owyn Cousland, Warrior: At the beginning of the story I'd say my Warden was kind, carefree, has a dry/subtle sense of humor, respectful(even to Rendon Howe at the start), a little flirtatious & loved his family to bits. A jack of all trades/master of none when it comes to combat but prefers dual-wielding swords. Semi-religious, very unsure as to what to believe is the truth when it comes to religion. Found the Wardens fascinating but very indifferent about joining them & would probably rather stay & do his duty to his family as he was expected to succeed his father as the next Teyrn.

After Rendon Howe's betrayal he was fueled by two words from his dying father, Duty & Vengeance. And so he joined the Wardens for his father. Initially pinned by grief, for the rest of the story he was a lot more stoic, logical & confident but kept his dry sense of humor & respectfulness, at least to those who gave him the same respect. Doesn't enjoy the act of killing but does so without hesitation. A good leader who enjoys the thrill of leading men/woman into battle. For information gathering purposes he tries to remain neutral in conflicts until the opposition shows their hand. Has no desire for great wealth or power & despises the corrupt. So putting hardened Alistair and Anora on the throne together was a no brainer for him. Even though early on they tended to disagree a fair bit he grew to love Morrigan for her witty, intelligent & courageous personality. Did the Dark Ritual and would have done it even had it not saved his life due to this line from her "Some things in this world are worth preserving" And followed her into the Eluvian. He remains pretty neutral in the mage/templar business. And would prefer some kind of compromise.

I'd say he's Neutral Good overall & yes I'v put a lot of thought into it  :P

Solomon Hawke, Mage: My hawke on the other hand was rather quite a ******. Sarcastic, flirtatious, bit of a jokester throughout the story so its no surprise he ends up with Isabela. All he cared for was having a good time & hiding himself from the Templars. Elevated to a position he never wanted but was very happy to accept the great wealth. Sided with mages on almost all decisions simply because he's a mage himself. He did kill Anders for his act of terrorism though. Always tried deflecting situations as he would rather avoid having to make any hard decisions himself. Tends to despise people with serious attitudes, or atleast those who try to get him to do things. I find it harder to describe Hawke. I may be changing him to a her in the Keep too.

No idea what my Inquisitor will be like until I play the game.

Both my Warden and Hawke attempted to be a leader who could bring diverse personalities together, they were both naive enough to believe through teaching and example cultures, prejudices and hatreds could be mended. both attempted to bring the powers that be together to find some common ground and at least work together against a common enemy, or towards the common good. But to quote the move  the Dark Knight> "See, their morals, their code... it's a bad joke. Dropped at the first sign of trouble. They're only as good as the world allows them to be. I'll show you, when the chips are down, these... these civilized people? They'll eat each other. See, I'm not a monster, I'm just ahead of the curve."

Not this time around, I will make the hard decisions and live with the consequences. the objective of conflict is to win. the winners ideology will be what shapes the future

My original Dalish Elf Shepherd was a neutral Rogue who would usually pick a side based on honor.

He also occasionally abused his powers.

My Hawke was a Mage Diplomat who quickly realized neutral wouldn't work and sided with the Mages but refused to use blood magic.

My only plan for my Female Rogue Qunari is to not screw over what Hawke worked for,

Don't really have a "canon" Warden yet, because there's too many interesting possibilities. Stupid indecisiveness. They're usually sarcastic, and are kind of rude. And are never mages. So, yeah.

My Hawke is much the same as most of my Wardens, but is a mage who is also diplomatic if the situation calls for it. But, hurt someone he cares for, and you're dead, sweetie. Still gotta replay the games for the millionth time to really decide on specifics, though.

My Inquisitor hopefully will be a female qunari blood mage, who'll prolly be sarcastic like all my other characters, but wants total mage freedom, and won't settle for anything less. She'll be ruthless, and she knows what she wants, and will do anything to get it. She will never kick kittens or puppies, though. That's just crossing the line, man.

EDIT: I didn't capitalize a letter!  :o

Warden: Female City Elf Rogue - Started off playing on the quite bitter and serious side given her starting scene, got more neutral and eventually became quite diplomatic and honour-bound.

Hawke: Male Mage - Again given the starting circumstances began quite serious/aggressive, became more humorous and light-hearted while still keeping his aggressive edge (mostly because of all the bloomin' craziness that was going down that made me want to YELL AT EVERYONE).

Inquisitor: Definitely going full circle and returning to a Female City Elf Rogue, unsure how her personality will play out, possibly in a similar fashion depending on how the story starts. They do sure love those sad and serious openings.

Well I usually make them have a similar personality but if they do have a difference, there job. The warden only focuses on the darkspawn, Hawke Kirwall (before it blew up), and now the inquisitor most likely the veil tears. If the three met and if only one of those problem could be solved they will fight over which is more important.

Both my Warden (mage) and Hawke displayed anti-hero traits, but I saw them as separate characters. When I consider how bad Loghain's actions were, I didn't mind the harshness as the Warden. My Warden loved some magic, and helping mages. In Awakening, I chose to save my Keep. Never thought twice about that decision.

My rogue Warden (Noble) was a bit more friendlier, and I focused on getting revenge on Howe, and Loghain for his part.

Mage Hawke was less intense, but still no nonsense. I reveled in being an apostate, and loved helping mages escape the Circle. I however disapproved of Anders' actions as he became all the things he hated, like an abomination, and a mass murder.

Inquisitor I haven't played yet, but he or she will be anti-hero, pro-mage, and I save my keeps (sorry Crestwood village).

My warden is a silver-tounged City Elf woman who can talk you into doing anything she feels like. Also mildly klepto... If you count pickpocketing every single person in Ferelden as mildly...

Still, she's a good person! Most of the time... All the murdering she's done has been self defence, really! Talking someone into attacking her totally dosen't stop it from being self defence!

Hawke is... Sarcastic... Stabby (whoever keeps Kirkwall clean is doing a really good job)... But overall good.

My inquisitor will probably be good too... You know, despite all the self defence/murdering she's gonna have to do.

Well, our Inquisitors don't even exist yet, so he/she is out of the question.

My Warden was honorable and noble(of the human variety). Good dude. Went through an eluvian with the mother of his child and love of his life, so missing.

My Hawke was sarcastic and witty. Good lady. Failed though(quite often), and somehow went missing after becoming Viscount of Kirkwall after the events of the Kirkwall Kerfluffle(will use Aimo's terminology with absolutely no shame).

So hopefully my Inquisitor has the level of success The Warden reached, rather than failing miserably like Hawke did.

I have six different world states and am working on my seventh ...

My first Warden was a female Cousland who was very much the diplomat. She tried to make peace wherever she went. My first Hawke, on the other hand, was an aggressive and uncompromising warrior. So while both of them would - for example - support the mages in the Templar/mage conflict, they'd have very different ways of approaching the problem.

My second Warden was a male Amell who was power-hungry and ruthless. While he became a marginally better person as the story went on, he was still a bloodmage who made deals with demons and was willing to do whatever it took to achieve his goals. He'd make his cousin Hawke decidedly uneasy - she was a mage, too, but avoided any hint of dark magic. On the other hand, they'd have a common interest in mage freedom. And sacrasm.

My female Aeducan would probably have gotten on better with the male rogue Hawke who suceeded her as protagonist. They were both pretty lawful - at least up until Hawke turned on the Templars at the last minute. My Aeducan did the ultimate sacrifice, though, so it's not really an issue.

My male Mahariel would probably get along pretty well with the mage Hawke who's living with his old friend Merrill ... right up until he found out Hawke slaughtered his entire clan. Whoops.

My male Brosca and the female warrior Hawke that followed him are real polar opposites. He was the most violent of my Wardens and used the murderknife pretty much whenever he could, very much out for himself and screw whoever got in his way. Hawke was a devoted follower of the Chantry and as lawful as possible - I went through Act II and Act III with no mage in that playthrough, since Bethany died in the Deep Roads and Hawke wouldn't associate with blood mages and abominations more than she absolutely had to.

My female Tabris and Hawke were far too similar to get along with each other. Both direct and ruthless. They could work together for a common goal if they had to, but I can't see them ever liking or trusting one another. However, it's never going to be an issue since she was another ultimate sacrifice Warden.

I don't know what my Inquisitors are like yet.

Both my Warden and Hawke did what they had to do, joked about it, and got the hell out of their crappy lots in life while they were still breathing. Both of them hooked up with Isabela at some point, so they at least have something else in common.

I guess they're not very different, but then I tend to guide characters by my own personality, rather than actually try to create different people, especially if being different means being more diplomatic or reverent.

My Warden and Hawke are as different as Bioware made them.
