I tried to play my canon Coulsand Warden as a sort of well intentioned yet sheltered character, she was very distrustful of magic and a devote Andrastian. I had her view her world in pretty much black and white: killed the werewolves, killed the architect, saved everyone in Redcliffe, destroyed the Anvil of the Void and put Bhelen on the throne not because she thought he'd be a better King but because she believed that as he was a prince it was a birthright and anyone challenging the crown was in the wrong. Naturally Loghain had to die because he as a traitor and Alistair had to assume the throne because it was his birthright and she believed Anora to be just another usurper, however she did end up having Alistair preform the Dark Ritual out of fear for herself so in the end she was a bit of a coward, I think anyway.

While my Hawke was more of just in it for the fame and fortune. She and Isabela were two peas in a pod and she ended up rivaling everyone except for Isabela and Varric.

My Surana, is incredibly, curious since she left the circle she wanted to know as much as possible about the world.Despite being kind and generous she wasn't easy to deceive, due to being uniquely perceptive.I consider her to be chaotic good and do what was right despite whether right meant legal and what others might think about her decisions. She was also slightly arrogant as she was Irvin's star pupil and a rather powerful mage for her age.

My Hawke, was at first an intelligent but easy going apostate, with a smart sense of humor, who became quite aggressive after his sister's death.Despite his bitterness he did have a lot of glorious moments of pure sarcasm and sass. He never really cared about Kirkwall's problems only did a couple of errands for the gold, he is dedicated to his family and dearly loved his mother and brother despite their occasional arguments. He became more considerate and helpful, only after losing  his brother to the wardens and his mother to a psychopath blood mage.

My Inquisitor is going to be a Dalish mage,I haven't decided how she'll turn out, since I don't know how the story will affect her,but I expect her to start as rather weary even defensive towards some people and events but reasonable, quiet, easy to forgive but never forgets, proud of her heritage and bitter about their current situation (She's Dalish all right?),a little nostalgic, wants to be free at any cost and a tiny bit of a loner.

Describe them more concisely than this...I can't  :P

I played my Amell as an intelligent, if naive, do-gooder with a definite pride problem. She saw the best in everyone for better or worse but could be extremely petty, especially towards chantry folk. Loved playing the hero. Ended up depressed after the blight.

My Hawke was also pretty moral, though he wasn't as serious as my Warden. He just wanted to keep his family safe, but just couldn't say no to other people's problems and brushed off his own with humour. Ended up depressed after Act 3.

Thinking of going in a different direcion for my Inquisitor; A Dalish mage who only cares about consolidating power for herself but can be persuaded to help others if it can benefit her. She also has weakness for children and those who cant defend themselves, because she can't help being a huge softie. Will probably end up depressed after the events of the game...

In ME terms, my Warden was paragon while my Hawke was a renegade.

My Wardens and Hawkes are different, but I try to create a story with thematically related chapters.

Story 1: The rise of magic

Warden: Eorlin Amell, human mage. Callng: scholar. Goal: Explore the mysteries. Personality: detached, somewhat pragmatic.

Hawke: Rowan Hawke, human mage. Calling: mage revolutionary. Goal: free all mages, destroy the templars. Personality: passionate, expedient.

Story 2: Dealings in power

Warden: Marada Aeducan, dwarven warrior. Calling: ruler. Goal: become queen of Orzammer. Personality: passionate, ruthless.

Hawke: Malien Hawke, human rogue. Calling: political manipulator. Goal: become filthy rich. Personality: mercurial, pragmatic.

Story 3: Justice and Vengeance:

Warden: Safira Tabris, City Elf rogue. Calling: vigilante. Goal: kill the corrupt nobles of Ferelden. Personality: serious-minded, detached.

Hawke: Darian Hawke, human mage. Calling: vigilante. Goal: free mages from the Circles. Personality: idealistic, detached.

Mine protagonists i consider only those of the first playthrough...Meaning when i think of singular playthrough and decision making, i try to remember how i handled things on my first go. With that being said, every time i play RPG for the first time, i react to everything, just as if i am in this situation - meaning i play myself into the game. Then later, i try alternative paths.

So, my Warden, my Hawke and in the future my Inquisitor will be no different then each other. Given, the gap between games is 2+ years, i would probably not change that much. The unique thing about them ofc is that they each are part of different story, different scenarios, and have to take different decisions.

By my intent, they're rather similar. But I felt far more restricted in how I could shape Hawke compared to my Warden. And as a result, Hawke seemed less competent for the things going through his game. Ultimately, I like to imagine my Warden as something of a heroic figure and a legend. "My" Hawke is a drunk and a failure.

I tried to play my warden as a very lawful forgiving character (think The Doctor) while my Hawke was more sarcastic and chaotic good who gave fewer second chances.

- Warden: A Dwarf who hated Orzammar and put Harrowmont on the throne out of pure revenge towards Bhelen. Sympathized with the mages but understood both sides to every conflict. Tried to do proud to Duncan and Alistair.

- Hawke: A more tunnel-vision minded character, who greatly defended the mages and despised Templars. Very protective of her family and would go through anything for them. Spoke with a more sarcastic tone. Sometimes acted with the greater good in mind.

- Inquisitor: Despite being a mage, my Inquisitor was not very fond of magic and applauded the Chantry's long-lasting solution before Anders ****ed that up. Sympathizes with the Templars. I will shape him further when the time comes.

I already elaborated on my Warden and Hawke back on page 5 or 6 of this thread, but I've had some additional thoughts about the Inquisitor.

Issala Adaar - Female Qunari Sword&Shield Warrior - She wants to better the world and help people, often shouldering as much of the burden personally as possible, but also stone cold when it comes to matters of mercy and justice. She's no bleeding heart.

I'm never entirely sure until I know what paths the game will let me take though.

My Warden and Inquisitor get sh*t done without losing sight of their moral code.

Hawke will forever be the red headed step-child that people want to

beat the hell out of for being so damn useless.

They're both Mages. Warden's a staunch blood mage, Hawke's one with the force and entropy.

My Warden is willing to crush whomever to achieve her ends, friend or foe alike. Though not necessarily evil, just selfish. Think pre-Act III Izzy without the skank tendencies.

Hawke is snarky diplomatic but willing to make the hard decisions. More concerned with the rights of mages than anything else.

I can't decide who my main Warden or Hawke is, so these are from each origin except Aeducan (US). Yeah, I've been contemplating the personality of my future Inquisitors a fair bit.

1.       Reno Surana – female mage – Zevran – naive, inquisitive, avid learner, friendly, cheeky

Urthemiel Hawke – female mage – Anders – aloof, flippant, anti-authority, snarky

Anjali Adaar (Qunari) – female mage – ruthless, sarcastic, distant, diplomatic, firm

2.       Mjrn Mahariel – female rogue – Zevran – bitter, aloof, ruthless, disdainful towards humans

Auri Hawke – female rogue – Fenris – reserved, cautious, diplomatic

Asha Lavellan (Dalish) – female mage – jokey, proud, cunning, playful, easy-going

3.       Morinth Amell – female mage – Zevran – pragmatic, power-hungry, free-spirited, anti-Chantry

Lucille Hawke – female mage – Sebastian – pious, friendly, compassionate, push-over

Kseniya Adaar (Qunari) – female warrior – aggressive, fierce, blunt, passionate

4.       Raven Cousland – male warrior – Zevran/Anora – ambitious, opportunistic, calm and stoic

Jansen Hawke – male mage – Fenris – pragmatic, easy-going, detached, friendly

Nico Lavellan (City Elf) – female rogue – sassy, friendly, inquisitive, cocky, reckless

5.       Eli Mahariel – male rogue – Morrigan – sarcastic, unconventional, pragmatic, cunning

          Zinovia Hawke – female rogue – Merrill – open-minded, easy-going, teasing, friendly

Cathair Lavellan (Dalish) – male rogue – quirky, friendly, blood-thirsty, pragmatic

6.       Eve Tabris – female warrior – Alistair – dedicated, selfless, relentless, Andrastian

Alyssa Hawke – female mage – Isabela – direct, selfless, anti-Chantry, determined

Alexis Trevelyan (Human) – female warrior – quiet, confident, objective, detached

7.       Jool Brosca – female rogue – Alistair – practical, honest, uncertain, protective

Zazikel Hawke – female rogue – Isabela – playful, flirty, anti-Chantry, rebellious, quirky

Kale Cadash (Dwarf) – female rogue – jovial, calm, stoic, kind, thoughtful, peaceable

Natia Brosca (dual-wield rogue):  very protective of Rica, sometimes pragmatic, often offended, mostly peaceful, somewhat laidback.

Alexa Hawke (archer rogue, Fenris): cautious about magic, somewhat of a jokester, sarcastic, peaceful, protective of family

Female Dalish mage (Arcane Warrior): does not like humans, cautious, very pro-Dalish, proud, highly intelligent, defensive, logical

Darrian Tabris (two-hander warrior):  hates humans, hates the Chantry, very very pro-elf, incredibly strong, frequently aggressive, outright hostile to Tevinters, intelligent, tactically brilliant, thinks on his feet, pragmatic, extremely protective of fellow elves.

Jasmine Hawke (mage, Sebastian): somewhat pro-Chantry though she believes mages should be free, protective of family, sometimes serious, does not trust Templars (obvious reasons), somewhat logical, kind of free-spirited, jokes once in a while.

Female Qunari mage: logical, disagrees with the Qun, pragmatic, proud, intelligent, anti-authority, cunning, quiet, calm.

My Warden was sadistic and power hungry, she loathed the weak and stupid (including companions). She sacrificed herself in the end - at least she understood the whole gray-wardening thing perfectly.

Hawke, in the other hand, was good natured and naive, always looking for compromise, alergic to radical positions (not much RP here, I suppose)

As for Inquisitor - we shall see, I wish I could RP pissed off Saarebas bent on eradicating the Qunari :D

My 3 canon Wardens are:

1)King Cousland(good but pragmatic)

3)the "Perfect Knight" Mahariel(good and naive, i made him after Connor of AC3)

3)the Pro-mage, young and sarcastic Amell that grows up as the stroy goes on to become a true Grey Warden, for good and bad(no DR, Loghain sacrifice and has a son with Morrigan anyway).

The third one is my favourite because in my mind, he is the one that changes the most as the story goes on; i mean i made him kill Jowan because otherwise he would have become Tranquil, then Morrigan left him, the only chance to die with some kind of glory was taken from him by a man that he actually had grown to respect and then, because he saved the Keep, everyone went around saying he was some kind of abomination....... for this one i made great character development :D

My 3 canon Hawke are:

1)"Champion" Hawke mage, pro-mage, diplomatic/sarcastic, Warden Carver, cares about Kirkwall and his title, sided with the mages (Amell save file)

2) Rogue, sympathetic towards the mages but he cares only about his people and (Circol) Bethany so he helps the templars to keep them off their backs, sarcastic/a bit aggressive after Leandra's death, sided with the mages (King Cousland save file)

3) Warrior, aggressive and occasionally smartass, lost Bethany and Carver to the darkspawn and his mother to a mage so he grew to despise magic, cares about his people and doesn't give a damn about Kirkwall, sided with templars (Mahariel save file)

My Warden and my Inquisitor are dwarves while my Hawke is human (obviously).

They are all knights in sour armor who like killing with daggers and making love to female mages with double letters in their names (Morrigan, Merrill, and Vivienne).

My Warden (Donnie Brosca) has a mother, a sister, and a son. My Hawke (Marten) has a sister.

My Inquisitor (Cole Cadash) has a...keep, who he will treat like an elderly parent.

They are all friends to elves (city and Dalish), mages, and templars.

While I'm not a paragon, I don't like to get my hands dirty too quickly or being forced to join one side. Both Hawke and the Warden share that trait. Still, there are differences:

The Warden is a respectful man who wants the best for all.

Hawke... Is Hawke, a sarcastic rogue who wonders how in Andraste's flaming pants he ended up in the middle of that whole mess of Qunari, Mages and Templars.

I don't have yet a clear idea of what to do with the Inquisitor, truth be told, it will depend a lot on which tones this game will use for the dialogues.

I have this little head canon set up that When my Hawke and Warden were little they were like BFF's  because they both grew up in Lothering. My Hawke is incredibly Sarcastic and Sassy, my Warden is less so, she's more heroic and incredibly good, but she can crack a joke now and then. ;)

lol I don't know how different or the same the Inquisitor is but

The Warden (2h male Warrior)

Is kind, almost chivalrous who reluctantly had to join the Wardens but now he is one, he is commited to the cause and he goes to great lengths to do the right thing or what he thinks is right, people follow him because they respect him and his choices, he is also deeply in love with Morrigan when she leaves he is lost, he does his duty but he s not the same.

The Champion (2h Warrior)

Is kind but very sarcastic and sometimes comes off as cruel, but he is the exact opposite, people follow him because they are friends, he enjoys excitement like fighting and Isabella and would do anything for her. Family and friends are important to him, he can't stand morons like Anders and Merrill.

I played and designed Hawke to look and act very much like his Warden cousin when I played as a mage. My mage in DAI will have the same blood mage, class elitist personality I gave to the other characters. And of course any chance I get to interact with Tevinter will also be favored. ;)
