I know this isn't a big issue but I just felt like making a thread about it.  I've always felt it was really weird to have the mage/warrior warden pull out a little knife and kill people with it; instead of using your powers as a mage or using your bare hands as a warrior to show your strength.

When I played DA2 I saw the knife of death was back and once again it looked really weird and akward for the mage/warrior characters I made to use it.

So here's hoping that DA:I will maybe give each class a unique kill animation and not just resort to the knife of death.

I suspect this goes under the "extra details we might add if we finish a week in advance" heading, unfortunately. I never really thought about it, but now that you mention it, I agree, and a Warrior Strangle Grip would be super awesome! Or maybe a Backhand of Doom! Holy crap, I need this now! MAKE IT HAPPEN BIOWARE!

What stops warrior to use knife to kill? Ironically medieval knights used a Misericorde knife to finish wounded enemy knights if they didn't surrender. Blood mages use knives too, don't see why any other mage can't use it.

I think I once read something from the devs about this being too complicated to be worthwhile... either that or they were talking about finishing moves. It's somewhere on this forum if you're curious.

Personally I'd hate to see the murder-knife go, or have it restricted to just rogues... I don't care what class you choose, throwing a knife into the back of Brother Genetivi's head was epic (and heartless).

why wouldn't the other classes carry a small concealed knife around? seems like a convenient thing to have just in case.

The Malaysians/Indonesians have some kind of poisoned knife that a child can kill a big man with it AKA RL knife of Death.

I can understand why you don't think a warrior should use the murder knife. Mages though, need to conserve their mana. It's true that the knife only comes out when combat is over or there was none but in game, a mage doesn't know this. Even a warrior might not bother with a sword or mace if the knife is right there handy.

I say leave the knife in. Uh, well, you know what I mean.

I want the murder knife to stay. It's a tradition at this point that getting the option to kill someone via dialogue involves the murder knife. Given that they do vary it and not just have one animation for every such event I'd say that's just as good as class-specific animations for killing someone in this fashion.

Also the idea of restricting it to rogues is not something I agree with. You don't need to be a rogue to be able to use a knife, it's not like trying to pick a lock or disable a trap. It's a weapon, a very simple weapon that anyone could use. In a medieval fantasy setting every adventuring type would likely have a knife, either as a backup weapon, a tool for cleaning game or whatever.

I'd also add using your bare hands as a warrior would make less sense than them simply using whatever weapon they use in combat.

Look at medieval fantasy movies and shows for a second:
-LOTR... Aragorn has a knife constantly strapped to his hip
-GOT... all the major characters have a knife strapped to the opposite hip of their sword, unless they're the Hound and have a massive on strapped to their back, a regular sword on their hip and then the knife as well.

I hate knife of death when I'm a mage. I want to burn their insides not stab them lmao.

Give each class its death tool. I enjoyed some scenes where my my mage hawke used his magic to kill like he tears apart the ogre at the beginning of the game or wins against corypheus in magic duel or when he finishes off the last boss in deep roads (act 1).

this was explained in detil in a diffrent topic of the same thing, even devs jumped in to explain why it was there. for 2 reason it was cheap way to allow executions of people, and 2, only idiots wouldn't keep knives with them during those times.

I mean seriously, even modern militarys all have knives.

The knife is a very useful tool. Why would anyone not have one.

Murder Knife is practically a character. You can't just kill a character off and not speak of it. Besides, you know, Emily Wong.

Yeah. Being once in the Air Force, the notion that someone expecting combat wouldn't carry a combat knife is absolutely bizarre to me.

It was already explained that there were big technical hurdles in animating the cutscenes if there could be several different possibilities for how it was done. Those hurdles could be overcome, but the effort required is not really worth it. Plus everyone in a mercenary squad would have a knife anyway.

If you get rid of the Murder Knife this game is Dragon Age in name only.

Why wouldn't mage Hawke have a knife? Well... Blood mage Hawke anyway. Slitting wrists is one of the things a blood mage needs to do once in a while, so keeping a wrist cutting knife on hand is useful. Your blood mage probably just uses that knife for killing.

I guess I'm in the minority.

I play as a goddamn Mage. Why the hell would I need a stupid little knife to murder people?

Because a knife in the back is much less noticeable than freezing a dude into a statue, or blowing up an entire block with a fireball spell, or calling down a thunderstorm....  or turning them into goo with Crushing Prison or turning them into a grenade.

If the templars are going to be just like they were in DA2 that's not going to matter anyway lol
