Relays should've stayed broken

I didn't like the original ending. Not because it was 'unhappy', but because of all the things that didn't make sense. Like teleporting squatmates, that planet the Normandy landed on while being in a relay jump and the three choices.

The ending could've stayed sad, but it just had to make more sense. Instead the extended cut gave us the unrealistic pick up by the Normandy in front of a massive reaper and a couple happy epilogues in which the relays are being rebuild.

I actually liked the idea of no relays. Would also make sense, since it was Reaper tech. The next ME game could then be a sequal in which the races have to find a new way to travel through the galaxy. Not just the way the Reapers wanted it. In theory there is a maximum radius you can explore (fuel and all) around every single relay. The no-relay-universe could go beyond that (warp stuff) and discover the X percent of the universe that wasn't covered by the relays.

Fuel isn't really an issue, since it can be scooped from gas giants. Food might be, unless you go the quarian route and grow it yourself, or put the crew in stasis for the big jumps. Protheans had stasis tech; not sure about the Citadel races, but they could probably get it with a bit of work.

I'd prefer Bio left the relays busted for a game or two myself.

Don't worry.

They're still broken.

EC just shows them *at some point* getting fixed.

And duh, of course they'd get fixed. Just a matter of time. This Cycle, regardless of Reapers, have the knowhow. They just didn't have the will to work on the Relays more and learn to upgrade them and mass produce them. Now they have incentive, EC or original ending.

Bioware wanted to calm people down while still, really, basically, keeping everything they originally made. They tricked a lot of people especially with the relay thing ;)

Anyway, personally I think that the next game may very well still have the relays busted, but its largely speculation (which goes against literal presentation) on my part so I shut up nao!!

iirc, there are stasis pods on the Normandy, just outside the gun battery. now as for fuel, I'm not sure that starships in mass effect have fuel cells large enough to move a vessel from star cluster to star cluster at ftl speeds. so it doesn't matter if you can harvest fuel from gas giants if you can't carry enough fuel to get from sector to sector.

I think the idea that the relays are fixed "at some point" is important. They're still busted, just not blown the hell up. The blown up relays was a problem cuz of the Arrival dlc and what it implied if a relay was blown up.

So, yeah they're still gonna have to be fixed. Idk how long iy will take. I've heard diff estimates...idk. I just imagine that resources are prolly pretty scarce considering all we had went into the Crucible.

And w/the relays being...mass effect fields..that supposedly manipulate the fabric of space and time...we're really talking abt artificial wormholes here.

I hope BW doesn't just drop us in sum where with the Relays all fixed and all that, and it's biz as usual.
