Nicely expressed!

Indeed. Very nice post, dragonflight. ^_^

Thanks guys. :D

I echo the sentiment.

I also want to mention in addition to all that you covered in your post:  If mages were slaughtered in the rest of Thedas, the only mages that would remain would be:

- Darkspawn Emissaries
- Qunari Sarebaas
- Tevinter Magisters
- Maybe some Dalish, if they managed to escape

I certainly wouldn't want to be without well-trained mages on my side in that sort of world.

Indeed. :wizard:

Yup. Dumat is still around.

Whom we kill routinely.
I never saw any Dumats as I was ripping out their hearts.

Bah, they didn't believe enough! That Altar to Dumat still worked, so I have faith in Our Lord of Silence.

Malcolm's seal worked. Doesn't mean he was still around.

Then where in the world was Corypheus drawing power from? He calls out to Dumat, and begins absorbing power from the pillars.

Magic in the pillars that was previously containing him?

I've been looking through some of my very old posts, some dating back as far as three years ago, and I noticed I said something that is probably true and may explain this inconsisitency.

After the first Blight, scholars spent years, decades debating which Old God had been killed, and ultimately settled on Dumat. It may be possible that they're completely wrong and it was actually another of the Old Gods. As for the reason Dumat doesn't speak to Corypheus....

he is the old god of silence after all. ;)

Am not. In order to contain him, they obviously had to be magical artifacts.

"A dead dragon-god helped him through statues" is more of a stretch.

Heck, I'm still not entirely sold that these dragonic creatures were actually the Old Gods at all. And I agree about not knowing which "Old God" died in the First Blight. I'm still baffled on how they decided that it was Dumat.

He ravaged Thedas for 200 years. I'm certain he was incredibly powerful.
He's still dead.

If it was Dumat who led the Blight for 200 years and not some other Archdemon.

There was actually a codex entry on how scholars determined which Old God was behind which Blight although I don't recall what it said.

They did have an entire religion centered around the things, they probably had some distinguishable characteristics. I mean, Urthemiel has an heart on his forehead (that's not a joke, check It out)

So, that's obviously the Old God of Beauty.

I'd say that dragonflight's theory is plausible. The scholars might've been wrong. By the way, what do you think they used for deciding which old God was?
But I still think it's a very bad idea to worship the Old Gods. Plus, they were dumb enough to be tricked by Fen'harel :P.

Yeah, I know. The Black Hole thing really threw me off. It apparently "sucked things in". But my question is: where did it send them?

I have no clue on how they could have decided on which Old God was which. I guess...defining characteristics?
I mean...we have Silence, Chaos/Freedom, Fire, Slaves, Beauty, Mystery, and Night...do we know anything about what the other 4 preceding dragons looked like? Were there any aesthetic differences?

Aesthetic differences could be a possible explanation. Another I could think of is the Old God's location. I think that in The Calling is stated that GW know the locations of the OG. They might assigned the Old God's name to the archdemons by analyzing where he came out first. Though I'm not sure is a good method.

I think we have an Inuyasha moment over here :D

Behold! The power of Meiodu Zangetsuha!

I think the black hole is a space related power. It sucks things in and then it goes into space, somewhere :)

Slight spoiler for Asunder:

Remembering Asunder and the cure for Tranquility is being touched by a being of the fade, what is going to happen with the tare in the fade. So since the fade is leaking into the real world, would that cure the tranquil?
