I killed Ashley. Because Kaidan was infinitely more useful. And L2 biotics are cool. Which brings up the question, is he still an L2 or did he finally upgrade?

What are they up to, L5? Well Kaidan refused to upgrade after Jump Zero so unless he had a serious character change, he's still L2.

I think I have had her killed maybe twice, but since I have completed the game over 10 times that isn't saying much. The only times it happens is when a) Seeking his achievement, B) When playing a soldier and therefore never use Ashley. Any other time Ashley is a major part of my team, and not to be lost.

As far as who to save and why in game, it is simple: Kaidan gets to be the Team leader because of his rank, otherwise I felt the Salarians would respond better to a LT than a mere grunt. So this always puts Ashley arming the nuke, and as such she is who gets saved because my first responsibility is to protect the nuke, thus I always go back to the bomb, and Ashley gets saved.

Out of game, I find Kaidan to be a whiny arsed little sob. Ashley isn't raciest, but most don't understand this, she is uncomfortable around aliens, which most people would be the first times around them, and she doesn't trust them to not stab humans in the back, since they are of totally different species than us(but this is an argument that has eaten threads alive and never been resolved by anyone of differing views).

I saved Kaidan (who I left with the bomb)  the first time to make sure the mission was a success and because I liked his character  and skillset more. He was useful on practically every mission for electronics/decryption. Then I remembered Ashley had been looking after her sisters and I felt guilty letting her die so I reloaded...

I killed her as retaliation for her killing Wrex on my first playthrough.

After that though I usually kill Kaidan though.

First time and every time I have, she was a rude, xenophobic and winey fool. Kaiden proved to be smart, polite and quite the "got your back" type. I gladly saved him and let Ashley die, Ashley proved to be of no interest to me as the generic female warrior type. Liara on the other had just sent out vibes of intrigue and passion, I gladly picked her.

I used to vaporize Kaidan all the time cuz I always thought he is a bit dull, but recently I dug a bit in their personalities (Kaidan and Ash) and noticed that Kaidan is a pretty cool guy. So now Ash gets turned into dusts, that's my way of clearing her grandfatther's name. One more reason for her to be vaporized was that love triangle scene in the comm room though I'm pretty sure It won't gonna be that easy to dodge this situation it ME3..

Not even once.

Ashley was and indeed still very much is my favourite female character in Mass Effect because she was easily the most human and believable, she had flaws but likeable qualities too. I felt bad having to sacrifice Kaidan but to be honest I never had any problem with saving Ashley every single time.

Seriously I romanced her in every playthrough, and I've played Mass Effect 1 about twenty times, so when you've romanced the same fictional character about twenty times you are probably going to end up liking them somewhat.
Besides Ashley is nowhere near as bad as people claim she is, she isn't some crazy right wing religious nut extremist racist, rather she's just an ordinary person with a toughened attitude who still has a compassionate side and of whom has some flaws and prejudices (that are perfectly rational given her family's history) but has the ability to move past that.
Seriously that's what I see when I look at her and considering I've explored every possible dialouge option that I can with Ashley I can honestly say that the people going crazy with the hate are really just seeing what they want to see.

EDIT: I also find it tragically amusing that so many people are shouting at Ashley for being 'bigoted' (she's not by the way, her distrust of aliens is not based on them being different to humans but rather family history and lack of real experiance working with alien races) but then immediatley also shout out hatred for her on the basis of her being religious. Calling her a crazy religious nut is very harsh when she only mentions once that she believes in god and really what does it say about people complaining about a character being a bigot if they then reveal that they themselves are bigotted about people who are religious?

i don't think u wil get to them...i think they find it easier to accuse for the slight comment then try to understand the character....Kaiden was a good character(even though sometimes boring)...his voice actor didn't help...but i regretted killing him each time...i hate loosing companions...but every gameplay i had i helped Ash even when she wasn't guarding the bomb....she is by far the most interesting char in ME universe

I didn't kill off Ashley because I was waiting for the huge confrontation scene that was sure to follow. I mean, doesn't she specifically say such a romance would be a bad idea because it could affect your decision-making? And then lo and behold you have a big-ass decision to make. And if you do exactly what she warned against...she apparently has nothing to say on the topic. WTF.

I've killed Kaiden almost every time mostly becasue during the Ilos run the surviving partner is the one who argues with Pressley about if they can drop the Mako on top of Saren or Ashley sounds like Hudson from Aliens when she is doing it.
