I romanced Ash and changed her views on aliens but had to leave her behind on Virmire. I decided that she did deserve better than how the Alliance had treated her so I gave her the chance to be more than just a foot soldier and lead one of the salarian squads. Plus she was right, I needed Kaidan to arm the nuke. But geth reinforcements showed up at the bomb site; the mission can't fail and if there was even the slightest chance that the geth could defuse the bomb then I had to stop them so I had no choice.
In my mind I find the story to be more interesting or tragic when I come up with stories like that for my playthroughs. Moments like those define how I'll play Shepard in ME2. Having to leave behind a loved one to die would mess me up pretty bad. It also lets me chase whoever I want in ME2 without feeling like I'm "cheating".
Of course I also have a save before Virmire that I can reload if I wanna carry through the relationship into ME3.

No, since I wanted to experience the romance with her in my single ManShep playthough. That said, she has died in all but two of my numerous FemShep playthroughs.
It's always hard to choose, because both Ash and Kai are such great characters. Nonetheless, I respect Bioware for putting such a difficult and dramatic choice in the game.

I killed her. I like Kaidan better because he was more interesting, and more utility as a Sentinel. Also needed to make sure that bomb went off.

In one playthrough, I romanced her but left her behind on Virmire. I felt my Shepard needed to learn how to put his personal feelings aside for the sake of duty. I also wanted a low point in the story to "harden" his personality for ME2.
I usually leave Kaidan behind on Virmire but never romance Ash. I prefer playing as an adept since I prefer crowd control and debuffing over pure combat so Ash and Garrus or Ash and Tali are invaluable in my squad. Character-wise, I like both but prefer Ash when Virmire comes since my Shepard's personality and opinions tend to mirror Kaidan's.

I left her on Virmire during the playthrough in which my paragon male Shep romanced Liara. On the playthrough in which my renegade male Shep romanced Ashley, I left Kaidan on Virmire.
I didn't particularly care for Ashley the first time I played through the game (male Shep) so it wasn't a difficult choice. On my second playthrough (fem Shep) I grew to like her. I still left her on Virmire as I was romancing Kaidan but I disliked doing so. Actually I'd rather not leave either of them behind.

Yup. Didn't like her at all. Kaiden was... Bareable.

While Kaidan's personality to me is about as interesting as a tub of powdered milk,he's bearable in comparison to Ashley. So I've killed her on every single ME playthrough.

Too bad we couldnt leave all 3 on Virmire...now that would have been interesting..
(would have broken imports for me2 though)
Ah well..cant have everything.

I did, but not because I hated her (I quite like her, actually), but because I've killed Kaidan in a majority of my other Shepard run-throughs -aside from the first time I played the game- and I wanted to see how it'd affect ME2.

Would have been fun if there was an option ingame to have Shepard do a cointoss.
If Ash is involved in the killing of Wrex she usually follows him shortly after in my playthroughs.

I killed her on my first male Shepard playthrough, not because she annoys me (I think she's a great character, warts and all), but for the most cynical reason imaginable - I didn't want her getting in the way of my Shepard's planned romance with Tali in ME2.

I'm female and I kill Kaidan.
Liara ftw.

I don't like Kaiden. Here are my personal reasons.
Kaiden is fine with everything I do no matter what. He had an issue in his life and resolved it, so his character development is basically done. How boring. I was a Vanguard, he had most of my abilities and I just didn't need him when I had Garrus or Tali. He can't use Sniper Rifles. How lame, I love team mates that can use Snipers, they always do insane damage and Ashley compliments Garrus really well.
Finally, my most contrived and stupid reason. I do not like Kaiden's hair. At all. He looks silly.

On my third playthrough when i was romancing Liara. after they cornered me and i chose Liara, Ash didn't really need to be around anymore.
I consider my first playthrough for ME1 to be my canon shep though, as that will be the file that i take into ME3, since i didn't romance anyone in ME2 on that import...and Ash better be nicer then she was on Horizon.

I blew her up a couple of times. Playing a spit and polish Shepherd my reasoning was chain of command meant hands-off so the choice is less obvious. Save her just so I could sleep with her? Save her and then ignore her out of guilt? Still that's 2 or 3 out of a dozen playthroughs. Romance wasn't that big a part of my ME anyway.

before ME2 came out and i met miranda, out of 30 playthroughs kaiden only survived about 5 times. now that im hooked on miranda, this new ME1 playthrough im killing off ashley. a few reasons are because kaiden is a sentinel and if hes like miranda ill love having him as a squadmate in ME3 instead of boring soldier ashley. miranda and kaiden would be great squadmates.

once... but my guilt got me. I can't have a woman die... is just isn't me even in a view game lol.
Kaiden, is smarter, more diverse... socially more open... but just can't kill Ashley.

I always kill Kaidan. Ashley is my canon-LI and yes, I did let my emotions dictate my actions in the situation. That and I always send her with the STG so it's not just saving Ashley, but all the Salarians too.
