First impressions are everything. I just really dont like her or kaiden. Call me a troll if you like i just think they were a little on the flat side in an otherwise strange and awesome universe.

Even the word from Chris L'Etoile, Ashleys writer that Ash ain't racist, how can you disagree with the person who wrote her?!

Mark Millar said that the pro-regs in Civil War were the good guys. The fact that someone's author said something doesn't mean that people can't interpret the universe differently.

Everyones experience of the game is subjective, she drops a line about not being comfortable with all these aliens on board, and i simply sigh and exit the conversation forever.

Technically wouldn't that mean your interpretation be extremely limited since you completely shut off on her based off of one disagreement?

You can interpret any thing how u like, but Ashley is not a racist. It has been said by the person who wrote her, there is no argument. We have facts she is not a racist, you have nothing but baseless accusations against her. We have proof and you do not.

Could you quote that line in its entirety? Also note that I'm not making any accusations here.

I would like to thank TeenZombie for this find about our favorite Chief in the Alliance.

So to all the haters out there just try and deny the word of the Ashley Williams Lore/Cannon writer. You will lose.

I've been meaning to drop this quote off in this thread for a while, so here is a quote that (hopefully) will put the "Ashley hates aliens" myth to rest. This is Chris L'Etoile, former Bioware writer, who wrote Ashley, and posts around the web as Stormwaltz, on the Penny Arcade forum Mass Effect thread:

I find it interesting that so many people have stereotyped her as "the racist." At a couple of points she blasts the Terra Firma party as being "bigots," and she openly admires the power of the Destiny Ascension in the Citadel approach cutscene - not quite what you'd expect from a xenophobe.

In her first conversation she spells out her thinking pretty explicitly (the bear and dog metaphor), and it's nothing more than a short paraphrase of the most memorable passage in Charles Pelligrino and George Zebrowski's novel "The Killing Star":

When we put our heads together and tried to list everything we could say with certainty about other civilizations, without having actually met them, all that we knew boiled down to three simple laws of alien behavior:

1. THEIR SURVIVAL WILL BE MORE IMPORTANT THAN OUR SURVIVAL.

If an alien species has to choose between them and us, they won't choose us. It is difficult to imagine a contrary case; species don't survive by being self-sacrificing.

2. WIMPS DON'T BECOME TOP DOGS.

No species makes it to the top by being passive. The species in charge of any given planet will be highly intelligent, alert, aggressive, and ruthless when necessary.

3. THEY WILL ASSUME THAT THE FIRST TWO LAWS APPLY TO US.

And it's hard to dispute this. At the least, you could say the krogan live by these rules. It's certainly a more suspicious and pessimistic point of view than most of us are comfortable with. But is it racism, or realism?

Anyway. I fully expected some people write her off as a bigot. What surprises me is that no one's pointed out that her position does have some sense. Evidently, I did something very wrong here.

To answer a question from... I don't know, tens of pages ago, if you romance her and have persuade, you can convince her to be a bit less extreme in her opinions.

Link to post

And there you have the man who wrote the character, telling us what she meant by the bear and dog comment, and her view on aliens. Realism, not racism.

So there!!!

^I don't get the Ashley hate either... but I guess ppl can be prejudiced from any side

I might not like her as much as some of the other squadmates, but it's not like I hate her... I definitely didn't kill her b/c I thought she deserved it.

Actually, usually I save Kaidan Alenko and let Ashley Williams die. Doesn't matter if I have a male or female Shepard, because I always end up with Liara T' Soni.

And I only pick Alenko because he is Carth Onassi from Knights of the Old Republic!

I don't, but not because of the romance (I did it with Ash just once) but simply I prefer her to Kaidan, and it's much more beliavable that she reacts like the VS does on Horizon than Alenko, imoh.

I did, I wanted him to have a bromance with Alenko. Bros before hoes B-) My Shepard honors the bro code, the galactic version of Barney Stinson from How I met your mother haha!

I did, mostly because of the decorations that she receives from the Turians and Salarians in ME2. I felt that it was a good way for her to redeem her family name.

My sister romanced then killed off Ashley because she wanted to see if Shepard looked 'heartbroken'/'upset' when she died. Oh how disappointed she was.

Your sister is cool then. I love to kill my favorite characters or LI. And yes, I kill Ashley every time, cause I can't stand her. Same goes for little gypsy quarian what's-her-face. Takes a rocket to her face every time.

The sole playthrough I let her die was because of that. I was incredibly disappointed with result. I at least expected Kaidan to question me on it.

Doesn't he? I could've sworn he asked Shep why was he saved?

Killed her on every ME1 game cause she's an annoying religious extreme right extremist who doesn't kown when to shut her mouth. Kaidan's a much better choice even without romance option.

He does ask that, but not specificially about why I left Ashley behind if I romanced her.

How is Ash an extreme right? Or extremely religious when she says she believes in God once? Thane and Samara came off as more religious than her.
