He does ask that, but not specificially about why I left Ashley behind if I romanced her.

it makes perfect sence though, seeing as you're trying to keep your relationship private.  sure there might be rumors, but unless the other party is personaly involved (for instance Kaidan asking how you feel about Liara), there's no reason for the survivor to ask about relationship.

I did. I even did it when she was my romantic interest. I was hoping this might change some dialogue with him sacrificing his love in the name of the mission.... No one said a thing.

I have several saves and swap my choice depending on romantic interest and alignment.

However, this is always a tough decision. I hate killing either one, but I generally keep Kaidan.

Evidently, I did something very wrong here.

That quote from the developer. Remember it well.

I suspect the reasons Ashley, and Kaidan for that matter, get a lot of hate is:

a) They're human, we apply different standards to them. If a human squadmate is religious it, for some bizarre reason, touches a nerve with some players (never really understood the anti-religion sentiments myself). If an alien is religious, it's cool and exotic.

B) You have to make the conscious decision to kill off one of them. Thus when you pick the one to kill off, you may try and latch onto reasons why it's justified to kill that character. Hey Ashley was being anti-alien earlier, she must be racist, good thing I chose to nuke her.

But I suspect it's mainly the Human thing. I remember someone remarked that if Garrus was human, people would bash him all the time for being whiny and indecisive. As much as I love Garrus, I'd agree Garrus would not be so loved if he was human.

It shocks and kind of saddens me to think that what amounts to a blatant hate thread has managed to go on for over twenty pages and spans as far back as a year and never got locked.

Worse still this is a hate thread where actual bigotry lies within (Hate for religion, anyone?) and it hasn't even gotten noticed.

Instead it's allowed to be necroed back after a five month period and the trolls get to just resume status quo and go right back to the standard rude and obnoxious character bashing posts like nothing ever happened.

Just as much hate and just as much trolling and a hell of a lot meaner in nature than any number of hate threads for Tali, but hey if you do a hate thread for Tali good luck it even getting as far as ten pages. You'd be lucky to see it get as far as five. But this? Nah man, all the way to twenty. Goes into hibernation and then comes back and is just allowed to resume as if nothing happened.

Just goes to show, character hate threads and bashing are totally unreasonable and unfair.... as long as said character is considered 'popular'. Otherwise trolling and very blatantly anti-religious sentiment that hangs on the borderline of bigotry itself, can just scoot by and happily continue.

Man, I'm pissed.

Of my six Shepards (three of them male, three of them female), four of them (two male/two female) sacrificed Ashley and only two let Ashley live. I did so for different reasons based on the kind of character I'm playing.

Two of my three male Shepards sacrificed Ashley because they were bros with Kaiden (not that they didn't like Ashley, but Kaiden to them-and to me- is much more mature and rational, while two of my three female Shepards, including my canon Shep, sacrificed Ashley because they were romancing Kaiden.

Only one of my male Shepards saved Ashley and that was only because he was romancing her while one of my female Shepards saved her simply as a playthrough of having the same gender saved (people usually save the opposite depending on the gender they play).

I just like Kaiden better than Ashley. Less attitude and a great asset for non-biotic characters. Believe it or not it has nothing to due with her religious views (I happen to believe in God/Higher Power in real life) or her sentiments towards aliens but rather just preference here.
