Paragon. I always thought of him possessing a Paragon heart and a Renegade head. I think he just needed to blow off some steam, plus his little paragon speech is my favorite piece of dialogue in the game.
How did you train Garrus?

Paragon all the way!
He was a good guy at heart, he just needed someone to make him realize it.

Renegade, because I mostly agreed with him. Hopefully, this means that he'll have the guts to do what needs to be done in ME2.

I've done so many playthroughs over such a long period of time that I absolutely do not remember. I think mostly, he's become Renegade or undecided. We'll see in the end! I'll have to do an ME1 playthrough after I've played ME2 a few times anyway, because... it's just that awesome to have a game where the consequences matter.

I'm the necromancer, I know...
It took me a long time to actually realize that you can mold Garrus into the person you want him to be. He's the only character you can manipulate like that, right? All the others don't much react to your choices. Ashley can't be cured of her xenophobia. Grunt will stay the killing machine he is no matter what you say.
My main Shep is paragon. So my Garrus is a pretty nice guy who's quite hotheaded at the beginning but who actually wants to do the right thing. Which is getting justice. He learns that controlling his temper will get better results. Such an adorable character, really.
Then I started browsing the community and found that everybody liked Garrus for being so bad ass. And I was like "huh?". Never occurred to me that he would be different around a renegade. Man, I'm thick!
Then a couple of weeks ago I played ME1 as a renegade for the first time and got me that bad ass Garrus. Nope, not my kind a guy. Renegade is not for me. I want my good guy Garrus back!
Being able to mold squad mates like that is cool, though. I hope there will be more of this in ME3.
