I'm hoping Mass Effect 4 will be a return to what BioWare did when they set out with Mass Effect 1:

-A deep RPG with a clear emphasis on the story and being an RPG, and not letting things like trying to copy Gears of War get in its way.
-NO AUTO DIALOGUE.
-Stats & XP
-Looting
-No forced down our throats characters *cough ME3 Liara *cough*
-Planet exploration, give the galaxy that unique, big, mysterious feel it had in Mass Effect 1.
-Set a good deal of time after ME3, best they leave the debacle that is that game's ending alone.
- Replay value
- Armor/loadout customisation

Oh and character creation of course. Multiple races would be nice.

EDIT: Sorry about my blank post above, no idea what happened there :S

This is so diffuse that it could mean anything.

Stats have to be done right. I don't want another game where my supposedly elite soldier has to actually invest skill points in weapons and skills to be able to use them professionally when she's already a master, storywise.

I'd be happy to see stats that determine my character's physical and mental attributes, like strength, agility, intelligence, perception, endurance, charisma, etc.

If you're referring to ME1's loot system - no thanks.

If you mean a loot system where you can pick up weapons and tools used by the enemies, then that's something I can get behind.

I can only agree with all of these points, especially Liara.

Yeah, I should of been more in-depth on my first point. What I meant is I want a story LIKE Mass Effect 1's, that classic sci fi adventure feel that emulated Star Trek and Star Wars, and grand, big, yet simple story that neatly concludes and leaves plenty of room for the sequel to do what it wants (like Dragon Age: Origins)

As for the loot system, something like Origins loot system would be nice, however I agree ME1's loot system was not the best, better than none in 2&3 though.

We can always hope it will be good. I do however question the idea of doing another game in the Mass effect universe - Mass Effect was Shepard's story, period.

I'm a little afraid that Bioware might walk the same path as Games Workshop and just re-using the same two universes for an endless stream of games, re-hashing and retconning everything as they go along so it will fit in whatever is current. Right now the Dragon Age world works as it is (Origins: rise and fall of the big bad, DAII the aftermath and rise of another conflict, DA3, the conflict(?), but anything set in the Mass Effect universe will be affected by the triology one way or another.

I really hope Bioware has so much sense that they kicks of another game instead. A modernized Baldurs Gate sage would be awesome, and Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2 would need an upgrade.

There is no point to hoping for something bad.

Well there hasn't been a bad mass effect game yet. With that being said (and I firmly stand by that statement) there are always improvements that can be made. Since players cry about their choices not having enough impact I would make it that choices impact both story and gameplay (you make decision A, you then have to go on mission x while mission y is unavailable unless you made decision B). I would say keep the squad to the 6-8 range in terms of how large it is. While ME 2's huge squad was awesome and fit in nicely with how ME2 was structured overall I think a smaller squad allows for more character development and squad interaction (hearing the squadmates banter with each other on the Normandy in ME 3 was a real treat). I would also like to see deeper customization options for the squad.

Make ME4 more like skyrim, with the ability to chose different races and the radiant side quests.

Don't ever compare W40k and WFB to ME and DA. Never ever. They are completely different scale. And have less GRIMDARK.

I'm hoping for the protagonist to be non milititary.

The respective universes are different, sure, but the franchises are for both companies a) a fantasy world, and B) a sci-fi world.

GW only have these two and are constantly tweaking and reforming the universes. True, they are older than Bioware I think, so they have had more time to develop apart from the quite important issue of selling books, rules and figures (so development is crucial so people isn't stuck playing old games and won't buy stuff any longer), but Bioware might go down the same path, but with games and constantly updated pay-DLC for example. I use GW as a cautionary tale here.

What I'm saying is that getting stuck with only two worlds to work with might work for a while and might also generate a stream of revenue which is good for the company. But it's not good for the image people get. The best way would be to develop other worlds for games of the same magnitude we have already seen. It might be historical, but nothing stops Bioware from developing new fantasy or sci-fi universes. In space, we have Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien, Mass Effect and a whole bunch of other shows, films and games, and I'd say there is a lot of room for even more of this.

I just hope they will make the multiplayer less buggy, add more customization, maybe some other playmodes and such and improve on all the things that were not so good while leaving everthing that was great in ME3 the way it is. Don't really care about singleplayer to be honest although I'd also like it to be more like ME1 but with ME3's movement and combat mechanics. ME1 was def. the best in terms of epicness and storytelling in my opinion. Also make an awesome PC version using Frostbyte engine, not just a simple console port like ME2 and 3.

Great idea. I've always wanted a desk job in space. Maybe we can be a pilot? Transporting people from one planet to the other. Or maybe be on a family vacation on Illium? Or be a dancer on Omega? All solid ideas.
Seriously though, I know what you mean. I just don't know how Mass Effect would work with a non-military background.

Easy. The PC is a criminal.

I want the new Mass Effect game to be good but Bioware seriously stop going out of your way to remove the elements that make Mass Effect well Mass Effect. The rpg elements and exploration where both are key reasons I like so many other people loved Mass Effect 1 so much.

I played Mass Effect 1 last because it got released on PS3 late. I hated the Mako mechanics and most of the explorations led my team to laboratories that were copypaste from other places.

Plus I always wondered who put thresher maws on so many planets. Kinda ruined it for me, because I felt like they were a limited species restricted to the Krogan worlds. I'm guilty of not reading the codex entries about them because I shouldn't even read them to enjoy the game anyways. Maybe someday I will have enough patience to do so.

The lack of living creatures on some worlds made me shake my head. I think it's a good thing they got rid of exploration in ME2 and ME3, since it allowed them to focus on the stories and important missions instead.

Edit: "Thresher Maws are subterranean
carnivores that spend their entire lives eating or searching for
something to eat. They are enormous, violent creatures that burst up
from the ground without warning when disturbed.
They reproduce via spores that can lie dormant for millennia and are
robust enough to survive prolonged periods in deep space and atmospheric
re-entry. As a result, thresher maw spores appear on many worlds,
spread by previous generations of space travellers." - Mass Effect Wiki

I believe Mass Effect 1 is the best RPG out of the trilogy. Mass Effect 2 and 3 are better shooters, but I prefer RPGs to shooters.

As such, I hope ME4 is a return to the roots of the series.

+1
i bought into this franchise because of the rpg element in ME1 and whilst i do enjoy the multiplayer part, for me it is a separate entity altogether - good for passing a few hours with friends but other than that not particularly interesting.  on the other hand i invested several hundred hours into my Shepard in the singleplayer universe.

Here's hoping we get to do that in whatever format the new game takes.  i hesitate to call it ME4 because i don't want a prequel or sequel to the trilogy but a new experience....

yeah .. before trying depth, they should manage continuity ...

you do not start something challenging, before you have mastered the basics.
