Not really, he has been in a lot of bad films.

A really good movie. In my opinion, I thought it could've been cut down quite a bit on the running time, but it was definitely enjoyable all the way through. All in all, go see this in IMAX if you can. The journey with the characters just feels that much more intimate, and almost as if you really are there with them.

Agreed. I saw it for the 2nd time, this time on IMAX. The movie takes a while to get started, and then later to end, but it is very watchable, gorgeous, and entertaining. The organ music goes a little bit nuts, but adds to the whole out-of-this-world experience.

So... I've watched Interstellar. It was a good movie, I enjoyed it. It pulls at your heartstrings, especially if you're able to understand not only what's going on but why. In this respect, however, the movie doesn't do a great job to be quite honest. Having watched Jeremy Jahns' review I expected characters to go into lengthy explanations on the theories of special and general relativity (which, by the way, I would have liked) since they play a key role in the movie. Unfortunately, what we got was far less impressive, with the movie resorting to, for instance, the same pencil-through-paper explanation of wormhole travel we were treated to in Event Horizon... and that was in 1997! Relativity? Oh, it was mentioned, and its effects were seen (more or less), but don't expect to walk out of the cinema with some basic knowledge of it. You do get a lengthy explanation on the power of love to transcend the boundaries of space and time, however. Um, yeah.
The score is good and you realize it tries to emulate 2001 at times but I often found it to be obnoxiously loud and bombastic in scenes that didn't call for such gimmicks. In fact, Interstellar would have probably benefited from a more cerebral approach, or at least it could have done away with a lot of the action since it wasn't the reason I wanted to watch it in the first place. Because of this, we don't get to see nearly enough of Endurance's planetary explorations, what's an utter waste of some absolutely gorgeous scenery. Not to mention it's a shame the Endurance crew didn't get to meet more of the original wormhole pioneers.
There's a moment the movie could have ended. I think we've all spotted it. While I see the benefits of having ended it there the truth is a lot of the beginning would've gone unexplained. In fact, a lot of the movie would have gone unanswered. Would this have been good or bad? It's up to you.
Now we enter spoiler territory.
Performances-wise, McConaughey stole the show. The robots came in at a close second though... That doesn't speak very well of the remaining cast, does it? Well, they don't do much, I'm afraid. To be honest, they're background for the most part. I think the most-developed character after McConaughey's may have been X and he doesn't show up until the second half (if not later).
Check spoilers for X.
I could point out more flaws but they still don't take away from the fact that I had a good time. I might even buy the Blu-Ray if a Director's Cut comes out. I will probably be getting my hands on 'The Science of Interstellar' (by Kip Thorne) first though.

Another review. This one courtesy of Doug Walker:
It looks to me that a lot of what he's criticizing is out of his own ignorance of the physics involved. Correct me if I'm wrong but he seems to be applying that old maxim that says, "If I don't think it's possible, then it isn't." Also, this movie doesn't intend to be a good ol' 90s sci-fi flick with purple planets but a more grounded approach to an interstellar voyage in the vein of 2001, not 'Pulp Fiction.' I do agree there's a pacing problem but it stems from adding a lot of unnecessary action to a film that should've been more about our exploration of the cosmos and what effects can be expected from said exploration as explained by our current understanding of the physics involved.
Doug, there isn't enough science mumbo-jumbo in this film to account for its flaws.
EDIT: I also ****ing HATE that we're calling things like Einstein's theory of relativity scientific mumbo-jumbo in this day and age!!! ![]()

Wow, Doug prefaced the review by saying the movie was OK, then cussed out the middle part, my favorite part,
. Are all his reviews that spoiler heavy? Dude practically gave away the whole plot! I'm gonna have to steer clear of that guy in the future.
In the vein of noticing scientific inconsistencies/issues, I guess I'll list mine and see if anyone has a decent answer or head-cannon (or if I just missed an explanation):
Found this link just now to explain the ships in the movie: http://www.space.com...nfographic.html

Finally saw it, pretty good actually. It came out the opposite of what I expected it to be. Matt Damon's 'DR MANN' was a great nod. Good to see a film with some right wing and forward thinking messages, as opposed to the typical hippie, left wing, climate change drivel of such films as AVATAR.

Phenomenal film. Hope to god Zimmer wins best original score. It's a travesty Interstellar didn't receive a nod for Best Picture, not that it should outright win, IMO, I think Boyhood and Birdman are fantastic achievements as well, but com'on, dog **** like American Sniper is in there, and it just reflects poorly on the academy. I'd take Nolan over Miller any day of the week in the director category, too. But yeah, fantastic film, not ashamed to be this chuffed over it either. I think it was brave of Nolan not to leave on an ambiguous note either, like Inception, and with such a complex subject to boot. It's great sci-fi, and great drama, and easily one of the films of the year.

Going to have to see Birdman. I've been growing a little tired of superhero films & I usually skip films with loltrailerlesbions at the theaters as a rule... so I didn't make time for it. But the trailer looked pretty cool & sounds like the film was pretty good & interesting so now I'm eager to see it. There were some good films last year, I hadn't spent so much time at the theaters in years... & yet I still let another good one like Birdman slip by. Hope Dragons gets some award or recognition too, because I loved that one & the shake-up at Dreamworks has me nervous.

Dougs a bit of a whiner, and his opinions on alot of things are fairly biased. Nolans movies have alot of dialogue in them. But it's more suited to a movie like Inception or Interstellar than it was for The Dark Knight Trilogy.
I don't think he understands that.
People say we dumb down movies, but you bring in one movie that involves String theory and everyone goes "Oh that's mumbo jumbo! I don't get it!"
Also To Boldy Flee was godawful. Doug is in no place to complain about Science Fiction Movies.

It was nice, but had some plot holes. Since they had so advanced robots why wasn´t any of them sent beforehand to scout the planets? And the ending was a bit too much. "I was in the fifth dimension but no one seems to care?".

I love this movie.
Each time I watch it I find new things to ponder and new questions.
My latest theory is that "they" had a hand in the bad conditions on Earth to push humanity off world. Instead humanity decides to stick its collective head in the sand be farmers, deny history and die
