Mine would have to be parrying. It was in Dark Souls when I figured out that I could parry the Silver Knights in Anor Londo fairly easily and decided to get better at it. I then found this parrying tutorial video and it completly changed my approach to this challenging game. You also get an extremely satisfying sound effect when you pull it off and its a very effective, but risky way to deal with the final boss shown here: **spoilers** DS final boss video **spoilers**

It was up against Cornell in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow where, as a matter of necessity, I had to employ parrying to get past this beast. He is the first Lord of Shadow you encounter and he is arguably the toughest boss in the game, especially so if this is your first time playing the game. Parrying in LoS is difficult because the pace of combat is quick and if you stand still for a second, you can find yourself swarmed with baddies. Pulling one off, however, is extremely satisfying with a zooming in on Gabriel and a nice chunk of focus added to your focus meter, all in slow motion shown here against Cornell. If you have your 'light magic' activated parrying will aslo blind the baddies in your vicinity for wonderful effect.
So lets hear your favorite gaming mechanics.
