Did you see ads, or some gameplay footage, or your friend recommented it? Or you are a long time bioware fan and played all their games?

I personally was looking for an original si-fi setting game with a good story. I saw Crysis but I didn't have the rig to play it, and then I accidentally saw a tacticle combat tutorial vid on youtube about mass effect. I thought this game looks pretty cool and I'm gonna give it a try. Then it turned out to be my favorite game. Posted Image

Mass Effectt flew under my radar because I was in college the entire time it was announced and past launch. I had no internet or TV or internets to know about ot for two years. One day I saw it at Gamespot and picked it up to give it a try and I fell in love with it. So then I bought the novels and soundtrack and never looked back. I. Can say the ME universe sits up top with my 12yr love affair with MGS

My brother played it on the 360 for a long time prior to me getting it. I don't have a 360 so I finally picked it up for the PC last June. To be honest, he brow beat me into getting it. I wasn't sure I was going to be into it at first, but I fell in love with it all the same.

my friend talked me into buying a 360 about 2 years ago so i did. i was into madden alot back then playing on PS2 so i thought what the heck get a better system. i bought madden and rented a few games. then that same buddy who talked me into getting the xbox talked me into renting ME. i never played an RPG before, tho i did play alot of shooters, but i was like yea right dude i play madden, im not a dorky D&D RPG guy. but three years later the only game i own is ME and i havent bought madden for the last two years.

you just cant go wrong with a 3rd person shooter, where you can customize your character, the story, and most of everything that goes into it.

Game Informer review. Saw at Gamestop forever and a half later for $15,  and fell in love.

My friend lent it to me, I am a longtime BioWare fan (well as long as I can be at the age of 16!) and I was going to pick it up soon but my friend lent it to me for like 2 years, then christmas of '09 I bought it.

Honestly, I was doing a project for myself, renting different, random games just for fun. A few days into the project I came upon Mass Effect and forgot about the project altogether. I never thought I would get anything out of it, but in the end I found a new love and here I am, almost a year later (January 28 is when I first played the game, I didn't memorize the date, I just remembered when the project happened).

I dimly recall hearing some media outrage about it when it first came out, though I was busy with other projects at the time so I ignored it for a long time. When I found myself with enough time on my hands to add another game to my library, I remembered the media outcry about it and bought it. I certainly don't regret that purchase.

I was currently hooked on an MMO.  WoW if I remember correctly, and started looking around for a new RPG to jump into.  Everywhere I looked there was a lot of talk about Mass Effect releasing in the next month or so.

Release day rolled around and I went to Best Buy...  picked it up...  and I've probably sunk more time into ME than any other non-MMO game.

I had bought my boyfriend the new XBox for Christmas and while he was surfing the net looking for games to buy he came across a list of new releases. I was reading over his shoulder, not really interested in anything that wasn't a LEGO game, and saw the review for ME. Humans in space. Unravelling a mystery. Character customization. RPG (although not very familiar with that at the time). Sounded interesting. Bought it when it came out. Haven't looked back. In fact, it's actually ruined all other games for me since I compare them all to ME. I lost my gamer virginity to this game. lol

I followed it on the interwebs. It was critically acclaimed before it came out just like ME2. I read the review in OXM and it claimed it was, "the best story told in a video game ever." I was sold.

I was introduced to Mass Effect after leaving Eve-Online from a friend. After the first hour of playing Mass Effect, my heart literally leaped inside me as I realized there was still hope that the RPG genre was not dying out to FPS and cookie-cutter games churned out for quick profits with high lack of inspiration.

I love what Bioware makes, what they do, what they stand for, and how they do business. My hat is off to them. As far as I'm concerned, Bioware has set the standard for RPG's and literally has no other competition otherwise in my personal choice of games.

I went over to a friends house where they were playng on a random planet. It was the most fun I ever had while epic failing. And then the thresher maw (or what ever that thing that comes out of the ground is) showed up... I knew I just had to have this game.

My brother gave it to me as a Christmas gift when he accidentally ended up with two copies after a pre-order screw up.

I'm just going to be honest and say that it was because of a thread at Dragon Age where fangirls were talking about Alistair. Some of the posters said they bought Mass Effect to "get away from Alistair" and there were women laughing that they had bought Dragon Age to "get away from Kaidan." So the two male romances from both games were compared in detail which got me curious enough to buy Mass Effect to see for myself. I ended up being blown away by the role of Commander Shepard and how it was OK to have a bad attitude as long as you got the job done. It was a very refreshing change of pace.

My thoughts exactly. I've never been disappointed with a Bioware game that I've played. Never.

As for me, I've been a long-time Bioware fan (I started with them on Baldur's Gate), and I follow their releases quite closely. However, I got sucked into an MMO (Guild Wars) a few years before ME came out, and while I bought the PC version once it came out, I only started playing it about a month ago. Still, I reckon that puts me in a perfect position to finish ME1 and hop straight over into ME2. Posted Image

KotOR did, sort of. I'd heard good things about it and liked Star Wars, so I rented it on a whim. After playing it and loving it so much, I ended up buying it and looking up other BioWare games. Mass Effect was still in development then, and I eagerly followed any news on the game until its release.

And now I'm absolutely hooked.  :)
