I was an early adopter of seventh gen and it was one of the games MS was hyping right from the get go even though it was another two years until it was released. It was sort of on my radar since late 2005, though admittedly for the first year of that I kept getting it mixed up with Gears.

I remember watching all the videos thinking it would be an XBOX 360 game only, and crying myself to sleep. I was even close to buying a console just to play the game.

I was already a big Bioware fan, so when I read an article in Game Informer somewhere around 2004-2005 about Bioware's next big game, I had to take a look. Dragon Age was still in development, and I was dying for more Bioware games. Found out it was sci-fi setting, and while I'm not a huge sci-fi fan, I still found myself interested. Kept close tabs on the development of the game after that.

I have been a forum member on the old boards since 2003, couldn't really miss the adds everywhere. Posted Image

It was definitely a huge surprise for me... I'd played and loved Kotor, but didn't have a 360 so I never kept an eye on its games. Within a week of when Mass Effect came out, I happened to be browsing a games thread from a Star Wars message board. That was the first time I heard of ME. When I heard Bioware was behind it, I quickly became intrigued, checked out the trailer, wondered how in the world I never heard of it, and decided I had to buy it along with a 360.

The only problem... the 360 ended up being a gift for my brother who had recently asked for one. He got to keep it and I could only play ME whenever I visited home during weekends. So it took me about 7 months to beat it. :o

I had played the Baldur's Gates and the KotORs, and I knew that Bioware pretty consistently produced worth-playing "B+" games (i.e., RPGs that took few risks, but that successfully hit the highpoints of the genre in a pretty satisfying way). I picked up a copy shortly after it was released on PC. True to my expectations, I wasn't disappointed, but I wasn't blown away, either.

Long time Bioware fan (never looked back since kotor). I bought it on launch day since I worked at Target. Been looking everywhere for collectors edition. Not making same mistake this time around (getting collectors edition in 4 days!!! ;)

I learned about ME from the original E3 announcement. At that time, it made me very sad because it was Bioware's second console-exclusive game in a row, with Dragon Age still in the far future and nothing else for PC in sight.

Learned about it only when it was already out for the PC. At that time didn't really pay attention (didn't even know it was from Bioware), then one of my friends recommended it to me and i decided to give it a shot. Well, now i'm here, waiting for another week till the EU release.

A work-mate mentioned it to me 2 weeks ago, so I went and bought it. Now i'm hooked, finished it once and currently on a second runthrough.

ME2 is on order - still 7 days to wait! - and i'm currently reading the books.

Oh I saw the very first teaser and was already deeply hooked into KoTOR so they had me from day 1.

I saw it first, when Bioware announced it on their pages. I was excited. Remember the blindingly white website they put up first for it? Then I saw that it's for Xbox 360 only. I went : what the hell is an Xbox 360??? So it was not for the PC, so I didn't really pay attention. When it came out for the PC in May 2008 (I think), I still didn't pay attention, cause of the copy protection. It was already like April 2009, when I found out that the copy in my market doesn't have the same limited activation DRM, as elsewhere, and since it was already a bargain price (been out for the PC for a year), I bought it. Took me 6 months to finish it, just before DA:O came out, just in time :)

I got an xbox 360 last year for Christmas and went into GameStop looking for Oblivion (which I ended up not really enjoying). They were doing the whole 'buy two, get one free' used game thing and I could figure out what else I wanted. There was a really nice guy working there who steered me towards Mass Effect and told me how amazing it was and that I'd love it. And I do. Thanks, nice Gamestop guy!

I was already a BioWare fan at the time. I enjoyed playing Neverwinter Nights and Jade Empire, and I absolutely loved KotOR (to this day it is still my favorite game), so I checked the website regularly for upcoming games.

was given Jade Empire as a gift, loved it, looked up other games by BioWare and added Mass Effect and KotoR 1 & 2 to my collection, also was not entirely surprised to learn they were the same people behind Baldur's Gate

First heard about it somewhere on the internet, but wasn't really interested back then. I thought it to be a simple, futuristic shooter. Only after watching a TV program dedicated only to ME, and finging out what it really was and who was behind it, I decided to buy the game. And I must say this was probably one of best gaming decisions I made.

My boyfriend bought it around the time it first came out. After I watched him play it for a while, I decided it looked so awesome I just had to go and buy it and play it too. :)

I actually found out about it only last year...I wasn't a gamer in my own rights anymore, and I'd only play whatever my bf had around the house. But I befriended a game reviewer from Dose.ca (he's moved since then though), and he couldn't believe I never played. He just wouldn't let it drop either, weekly he'd ask if I picked it up yet. So finally I relented and found a copy. And...wow, it was quite the welcome back into the gaming world although nothing will ever really compare to it.

I had been a BioWare fan before (loved Jade Empire, and since I'm from Edmonton, it was a principle thing too haha), but this just brought everything to a different level

Long-time friend through WoW gave a heads-up about a week before ME2 was released. I knew my net connection was going to be taken down due to getting a new ISP so I went and got ME1 to have something to play.

Never been so happy about not having any internet and been playing ME1 and 2 over and over for the past 2 weeks :)

Now I guess I've been lucky not having to endure the wait between 1 and 2, but waiting for ME3 is going to be really tough. This trilogy instantly entered my Top 5 Best Games Ever list.

i remember hearing only good things about ME1 release on the 360 but was unsure but a few months later a friend had it on his recommendation i picked up a used copy for quite cheap and the love began.

Since then i moved more to PC gaming and when ME2 was around the corner i got it on PC aswell so i could import for ME2 on PC.

Picked up DA:O a few moths back. Was buying some Microsoft points the other week and for some strange reason I bought Mass Effect out of impulse. I had always thought about and so far I'm loving it. But still not sure why I picked it up and just bought it lol.
