I always knew about Mass Effect (especially thanks to Fox News), but I never picked it up. With the arrival of the second one coming around and the transfer save stuff I decided to finally pick it up. To be quite honest I'm sad I didn't pick it up sooner; the game was/is awesome beyond belief.

My brother picked it up when he found a review on the top games of 2007. The PC version was finally going to be released in May '08, and he decided to give it shot. I thought it was interesting that a female could actually be a main lead, so I watched his playthroughs. Funny enough, he never made it past the first main world (since he's mostly a FPS fan & dislikes the constant chatter), but I quickly grew obsessed with the Mass Effect universe. There was so much to explore, ponder and read upon. Codexes, for the win! ;) I really enjoyed observing Bioware's thoughts on how the present world could manifest itself in a futuristic context.

By accident. Pressed a wrong link on the computer and it led me to ME 1. I didn't even hear about this game. It wasn't like ME 2 which was massively exploited. Luckily I found out about it a month before it came out.

I was looking for a good shooter game, I saw Mass Effect on the shelf. I bought it and never looked back. As I type this, the Mass Effect 1 copy is sitting beneath my computer screen. Staring at me lovingly with its Silicon eyes, and bright disk sheen. Asking, pleading to me, "why did you abandon me? I thought we had something, we could have been good together". Alas only answered by the lust of a newer model.

Had not heard anything about till it was already out. I like to research my game, but prior to it's release I didn't look at 360 games that much because I didn't have the system. I bought the system and was looking for a game to buy, the review on gamespot, plus my love of sci-fi made it too good to pass up. First 360 game (or any next-gen game for that matter) I ever played. Set the bar kind of high

I was following the development of Dragon Age and became aware of Mass Effect through the BioWare website.

I bought an Xbox 360 the day it was released (el crapo PC).

Read the announcement at the old BioBoards late 2005. I had just registered there that summer.

cant remember clearly anymore but before I bought my xbox360 I had heard some stuff that it was most likely best RPG of the year and from the makers of KOTOR (KOTOR was first RPG game I actually liked) so one day when I finally headed to the store and bought my xbox360 I decided that I should buy 2 games along with it, so I went to game shelf and picked GTA4 first ofc, then I looked around abit and saw the 30euro tag on Mass Effect, since it wasnt that expensive compared to other games with 50 - 70euro tags on them I picked it up aswell, finally started a new mass effect game after week playing GTA on xbox and there were few things I didnt like that much about it on my first playtough, however when I played more and more I started to like it even more, now days Mass Effect's are my 2nd favorute game series there is (KOTOR's being the first)

I was doing some guild work for NWN on the old bioware site, when I realized that the jade empire advertisement had been replaced by a new game. I remember think, "what, ANOTHER sci-fi game, Bioware?" And shrugging it off. Then a year or so later, I saw the first gameplay footage where Shepard interrupts Garrus mid-convo. Been a fan ever since.

i always thought all RPGs are as boring as for example morowind were you just run arround forever and don't even realize there is a story.

so despite reading some good reviews about me1 i never tried it because it was an RPG.

then someday in december 2009 i stumbled upon the "cast of me2" video and saw some of my favorite actors in it (esp. those from battlestar galactica), and was amazed by the graphics.i looked up the release date of me2 saw its a couple of weeks out so i thought "maye i should try me1 in the meantime". wen't to amazon and did not buy it because auf the stupid instalation limiting copy protection. but read somewere this limit has been removed from the steam version, so i bought a game on steam for the first time ever...download was slow, finished around midnight, played until 6 in the morning, did not get much sleep the following days... ;)

as soon as i finished i preordered me2 collectors edition, i think the second one was even better.

When Mass Effect first came out I was not interested in it. My fiance was super excited because he loved the idea of a sci fi rpg. Well, we ended up getting it a week early due to a stocking snafu at the local big box store and I tried it. I was immediately hooked.

I think another reason why I was so drawn in was because my fiance and I were working at opposite times, I had a regular 9-5 and he was working a night shift job, so I spent a lot of time alone while he was either working or sleeping and Mass Effect was just a perfect way to pass the time. I have no idea why I was not interested initially but it is now one of my favorite game series of all time. I'm glad I didn't avoid it.

I realise I've already posted in this thread, but I wanted to add: I pretty much bought a 360 because of Mass Effect, a few months before its release.

But yeah, after KotOR (one of the best games I have played), and the demo video (Garrus collargrab, and bar scene), my interest was piqued. Dropped off the radar for a while, but I was soon reminded of it as it drew closer to release.

However, due to it's subsequent release on the pc, and more recently my desire to have all my games bought through steam, I don't play the 360 versions anymore. That's just convenience, as well as the 360 being extremely noisy compared to a nice sff pc.

I'm kind of embarrassed to say it, but I only heard about after the Fox News thing. Which I heard about from Xplay, but I didn't get it until like January of 2009.

It is easliy one of my favorite games of all time. But I had never really played any RPG game before other than Fable, Mass Effect really got me into other game. Because before it I really only played FPS.

I played KotOR (and it's sequel), which led me to SW:TOR. I wanted to try out a MMO before I got too carried away by the idea of that, and ended up trying Guild Wars. Which I got from Steam. On Steam, I searched for BioWare. DA:O was fantasy, which I was already doing with Guild Wars, so I got ME1. I got ME1 while ME2 was being promoted, so I thought it would be a good way to find out if ME2 would be worth a look. I was utterly astounded and smitten by ME1, and was playing it right up until ME2 was ready to play via Steam. And I've now not stopped playing ME2.

I saw a gameplay clip on IGN before release. Thought the game looked cool, found about the first book. Read it prior to the games release, became the game I bought first when I got my 360.

Buy it on PC. Should be able to download it from D2D and its better on PC. (better controls, graphics etc)

Yeah, I became a Bioware fan after i was absolutely blown away by KOTOR, which in my mind is infinitely better than the movies. Around E3 2006, i saw a trailer on Gamespot about a new Sci-Fi game from Bioware. Didnt pay too much attention to it at the time but something had piqued my interest about the time the first ME1 was coming out. I watched the full 45 minute presentation on Youtube and after that i was hyped. Got the game 7 days early after a screw up at the local EB games. One of the best games i have ever played.

I was looking through the racks at Gamestop for a new game to play. I picked up Mass Effect and read the sleeve, then put it back down and continued looking. After not finding a game that looked interesting, I told the clerk I was looking for a game and that I enjoyed simulation or adventure games that are about more than shooting things, but also about building up a character, and solving problems in a variety of ways, not just by punching or blowing them up. He recommended Mass Effect. To be honest, I was turned off by the title and the sleeve, and only bought the game half-heartedly because I didn't have any better ideas or recommendations. But it was a great call on the clerk's part, because I loved it.

If you have a PC, and its relatively new (past 2 years) even if it isnt a gaming PC it should run KOTOR fine.   You can buy a digital copy for 9.99 at direct2drive or off of steam (digital download game services, you buy, dl the game and install).

KOTOR 2 isnt bad either, not as good as 1 but, they obviously just followed biowares RPG formula, its built on the same engine.  Although for some reason that one doesnt seem to be available as a digital DL anywhere not that it matters to me as I have both on hard copies.

I saw'd a commercial on da TV. Then a friend of mine had it, looked good, we swapped Fallout 3 for ME for a month, and I was thoroughly addicted. Come to think of it I'm not even sure if I got F3 back...hmm I'll have to check.

Since playing Knights of the Old Republic I generally checked in on Bioware now and then and became aware of Mass Effect in that manner.

I was a huge Fan of KOTOR ( I like finished it 15 or 16 times) and I remember reading back I guess the Nov b4 BW pushed the relase date from januarary of that year to I think Nov of that year. I remember one of my friends from Gamestop (then EB games) that if I liked KOTOR trhen I'm going to live this. Really? No jedi no wookies? What the hell is a Spectre? any way long story short street dat was pushed so I started to read up all I can about puting my digital likeness a character and saving the galaxy...why not and the rest is galactic history. Now would some1 from BW create a create your own "Love interest" that would have been totally cool!

P.S. no more Helmets....oops! wrong thread! :)

Long time Bioware fangirl.

I can't even remember how many times I've replayed KotOR... Hell, I'm even thinking about doing another playthrough. Don't think I've touched it for over a year. For shame.
