I'm doing an new run of Origins to import to Inquisition, and I would like to clear an doubt about the supply crate. How much exactly do I need to give to my allies to unlock their best gear? I once compared an random encounter on the road with dalish elves fighting darkspawn , and unequipped dalish wore their default armor, while the endorsed dalish wore ancient elven armor. Quite the big improvement. But how much exactly do I need to donate to my allies to unlock their ultimate gear?

I'd like to know this myself. Since I have the entire group equipped with what I want, I just dump what I have into the crates, including the money.

There's no way to really tell. You don't see your allied troop levels until you reach the end, so just keep donating. The dialogue of the emissaries might be a clue if you could interpret it.

I've never noticed any differences. I think the only thing it does is buff up your XP. Certainly the elves are no better geared than the dwarves (since I can donate unlimited elfroots and have a finite supply of minor gemstones).

It's possible that it's bugged - I've never seen any appreciable difference in efficiency in the troops. I'd ignore this function completely and just treat them as XP pumps.

Thanks for the answers guys. I just did the battle of Denerim, and well... the Dalish elves no longer were wearing the Ancient elven armor from the random encounter. I suppose that in the end, the donation are worth nothing apart from the XP. I guess I'll keep donating to reach the level cap.
