Been away from multi for quite a while.  I'm looking over what the boards say and I'm trying to get this clear. Can you multi with NWN1 anymore or not? I usually just want to play a private game with a friend - I was surprised to pull up the multi and see nothing running at all.

There's still hundreds of things running. However, unless you update your NWN client you won't see them since the Gamespy listing is no longer functional.

That thread has much of the info -- in particular installing http://www.neverwint....info/nwncx.htm will make most of the games reappear. And you can ALWAYS direct connect by using the actual IP versus the game browser which is what you'll want to do in your case.

Thank you for the response. I did actually skim that inititally when I first went looking for info today. If you will be patient a little longer - I don't think I ever needed to direct connect before and there are no IP's on my Gamespy history. Where will I find the IP I want - I assume it's either to her computer or mine?

On the computer running the server, go to http://whatismyip.com and that will give you the IP you need to Direct Connect to.

If you're looking for an IP for the various PWs, there's a couple different sites that have them - such as http://www.nwnlist.com/

Keep in mind the hosting computer will need to either forward the ports for NWN or set up a DMZ to allow the other computer to "see" it -- otherwise entering the correct IP still won't work.

Sorry MM, you lost me at that part. Can you explain your reply? How do I forward ports and what's a DMZ?

Also, does any of this apply if we just want to play LAN and connect up with a cable?

If you're on a LAN you probably don't need to worry about it.

A DMZ is basically a way to let outside computers find your computer.  Forwarding ports is a way to let outside computers find specific things in your computer -- technically "safer" but also trickier to set up and neither is going to stop the NSA from hacking you if they want.

You'll need to log into your router to do either and personally I'd suggest you just do a DMZ -- just set up a static IP to the IP address that the DMZ exists on and you'll be able to host NWN games and also other games if you want.  You're better off using Google for more exact answers since it can depend on your router type.

Lark Freeborn: if you happen to be behind NAT and you are not experienced with these things the easiest option is to use a virtual private network where you will be visible to anyone else using it just as you were in one room. I can suggest to try Tunngle, it has a public room for Neverwinter Nights and there is usually around 10-15 peoples at the peak hours.
