Hey everybody

Our beloved staff member Uilleand wrote another excellent piece of article about Dragon Age.

Magic must serve man, not rule over him. – Canticle of Transfigurations 1:2

Science has made us gods even before we are worthy of being men. – Jean Rostand (1894-1977)

Mage’s in Ferelden have it rough. But that was entirely intentional when BioWare built the world of Dragon Age:Origins. Mike Laidlaw, lead designer on DA: O, said:

Take a look at the first-level D&D spell, Charm Person. You’re a hard-working merchant, trying to make a living and some mage comes in and wants a discount. You’re not really interested, but one simple spell later, and
you’re giving him everything he wants. That’s terrifying. Mages are friggin’ terrifying. So, when we were looking at Dragon Age, we said, ‘Right, let’s take that to the next level.

If you like it so far read entire article.

Any comments are most appreciated <3

Something my brother hoped would happen in Dragon Age II that never did was mage styles. I'm not talking about a build I'm talking about cultural magic styles. To be honest I kind of hoped that would happen to. Something like elves' cultural magic using spells to manipulate the environment, humans with enhancing the party and restricting the opponent's abilites and options, Qunri being something akin to kungfu monks because their magic would be all about self enhancement. What we got was every mage uses the same styles and spells regardless of background and culture, kind ruins the whole every culture in the Dragon Age universe is unique thing that the makers were going for. Also nice job teasing us with the idea that we might get Qunri mage as a party member in Dragon Age II:pinched:low blow man, low blow.
