Well iirc you could allocate stat points yourself right? So if you made a female character who put all her points into strength she would still be stronger than most men. The strongest female in the world being one or two points off the strongest man in the world doesn't bother me.

Unfortunately there are no height sliders

That does bother me. Why can't she be the strongest person in the world? She's an outlier. Why should there have to be a "comparable man" that's stronger than her? If through a genetic fluke the tallest person in the world is a woman, that doesn't somehow undermine that men are taller than women.

You don't want stats affecting appearance too much. There was an mmo I played like that (called Shadowbane). Elves started off as scrawny as DAO's, but STR turned them to bodybuilders eventually. It wasn't pretty.

Women warriors could use some bulkiness though.

Why would you make a Strength-based Elf character in Shadowbane? Elves had literally double the Dexterity, and Blade Weaver swords were Dexterity based, too.

I can't remember ever missing this from my games.  Even so, I recognize it'd be fun to see genders mattering somewhere for once, purely for sake of variety. I can't seem to recall a single cRPG where there *had* been any stat-based differences among genders. In typical RPG the typical Elf has stat boosts and penalties that make him/her  weaker and more agile than a human.Dwarf on the other hand is usually clumsier and stoutier than either of the two.  Yet,human male is never stronger or less agile than human female.  Honestly, I can't think of a single game that'd give a differing treatment to stats of males and females. It'd be refreshing.

You can make  arguments involving suspension of disbelief and ponderings of how killing a dragon is approx as " realistic!" regardless of if it is male or female that does this.Technically I probably agree with most all arguments like this. Even so, it is frankly ridiculous I can't think of a single RPG that'd treat  stats of male and female differently. Yet I can think of tons where Elves have dex boosts, dorfs stoutiness.

Ok, so I know this is a sticky topic at best, but being a big fan of the series I have been wondering what is the canonical basis for women in the series being able to fight on par with men? Before the flamers get warmed up--this isn't another rehash of the whole gender roles in Dragon age argument--I'm more curious from a physical standpoint. Isabella, for example, with her bikini-perfect body can't weight more than 120 lbs at best, yet you routinely see her tossing around fully-grown combat-hardened thugs like ragdolls. Same with Aveline, though with her build its slightly easier to swallow. Lelianna same deal.

So are the women in Thedas simply blessed with the same muscular disposition as men? Does their limbic system somehow produce levels of testosterone far above real life females? Magical reasons? Just wondering. Fire away.

Being able to throw people who weigh a lot more than you.

It's not about the strength.

It's about the application.

Elder Scrolls Oblivion used to have minor stat differences between men and women.

I think I mentioned Arcanum upthread; in that game, women got -1 Strength and +1 Constitution. But yes, it's not something I really miss either. I've yet to see any RPG with a realistic inventory system either; if anyone can explain to me how it's possible or practical to carry thousands of gold pieces with you wherever you go, I'll be impressed. But I suppose that in general, I'm more okay with tradeoffs between realism and gameplay than most seem to be.

Maybe there should be gender-specific weapons?

Like, women could get frying pans and rolling pins.

And men use their fists, unless they're chicken.
