According to Sten, Qunari women are not fighters, they are farmers and ect. So he is confused when he sees your female Warden and Leliana "trying to be Men".

And being a Qunari Mage is a double-whammy, so I'm curious how traumatic and hard of a background that particular character could have living by the Qun.

EDIT:
I meant when they USED TO live by the Qun.

Correction:

I'm intrigued to hear more about Qunari culture.

Maybe they'll be Ben-Hassrath. Or members of some unmentioned band of ninjas who the Qunari consider farmers

I doubt they'll require qunari mages to have been mutilated in the manner of Saarebas.

Ketojin didn't seem that mutilated. Just had his mouth sown shut (OUCH!).
:? Wait.... did they cut his horns off? Or do horns come in different style on Qunari?

EDIT: Not quite the right thread for this post. Now the "benefits/drawbacks of being Qunari" thread, I may have to paste what this post was over there.

Besides the sewn mouth, its also implied they gouged his eyes out. You can see what looks like dried blood beneath his visor-mask. His horns were left alone.

I thought it was stated that the Qunari PC wouldn't follow the Qun? Being a second-generation Tal'Vashoth makes the most sense to me, since it gives your PC a lot of flexibility, but even if the female Qunari Inquisitor was a recent defector, she could have been Ben-Hassrath.

They also cut Qunari mages tongues out... According to DAO anyway. But then in DA2 Ketojin talked just fine once the sewing was removed by that control rod thingy, not like someone with a missing tongue should. Don't know if that's a retcon or a canon screwup (like Bodahn having a wife living in Denerim) or if it's only done to their mages who try magic they're not supposed to.

Given that mages don't need to speak to summon demons, reanimate the dead, or throw fireballs, I wonder what the qunari hope to achieve by sewing mages' mouths or cutting their tongues.

As it was already said. Qunari (as a member of the race) aren't all born in the Qun. The Vashoth/Tal-Vashoth have children. It's likely that the PC would be born outside the Qun.

Probably what everyone who imposes useless but crippling limitations to someone else hopes to achieve: complete power over them.
Not only those thing make the Sarebaas utterly dependent on someone else, but are also a way to have a firmer grip on their minds. If I can make you accept a pointless limitation/mutilation, then I have you utterly at mercy, I have brainwashed you.

Because if a mage does become possessed they can talk to other mages and corrupt them. We saw it with Uldred. The Qunari are just preventing another Uldred situation.

I thought the Qunari Inquisitor was never part of the Qun in the first place? They probably wouldn't be trusted as easily as another race would be considering the Qunari are not held in high regards. It'll probably be the hardest for a Qunari Inquisitor to gain the trust of the rest of Thedas, or at least the required lot.

well said...

I don't like the coloring of the new Qunari's so we'll see if they look good enough to consider playing.
like my protagonists to be attractive physically.
Not for romance purposes per se, but I want to be proud of my protagonist so I want him/her to look good.

I don't understand all the fasination to play as a Qunari. They're ok but not worth that degree of attention over the other races.I will play one eventually but not right off the bat/not in my first playthrough or probably my first half dozen playthroughs of DAI.

Because they're so foreign and alien.
IMO, Origins and DA2 doesn't tell us that much about Qunari culture, merely adds more questions about them.
Also, people simply like trying new things. DAI will be the first game you can play as a Qunari.

I hope we get more skintones for a qunari than fifty shades of gray since the wiki says they have metallic skintones like bronze, silver, and iron so maybe we'll get some of that.

Barely at all. Maybe some off-hand comments, but 98% of NPCs won't even notice what race you are.

Traditionally, gender has had very little impact on the PCs of Dragon Age. Since we'll be playing as a Tal-Vashoth, I assume this trend will continue. The only thing that's going to matter is race and possibly whether or not you are a mage.

Being a qunari would only have a big influence on places that had contact with them so orlais, tevinter, and the free marches would be where it counts the most.

It was said shortly after they were confirmed to be playable. We also saw we have a last name in the PAX demo if we play as a qunari, further proving we're not of the Qun.

The Ben-Hassrath acts as the Qunari's secret police, working under the Ariqun, meaning they are technically classed as part of the Qunari priesthood. Tallis was a member of the Ben-Hassrath. They train both males and females in combat, though it is not the role's primary purpose. Elven Ben-Hassrath tend to be sent to non-Qunari nations, Tevinter in particular, selling themselves into slavery and servitude to act as spies.
