They also cut Qunari mages tongues out... According to DAO anyway. But then in DA2 Ketojin talked just fine once the sewing was removed by that control rod thingy, not like someone with a missing tongue should. Don't know if that's a retcon or a canon screwup (like Bodahn having a wife living in Denerim) or if it's only done to their mages who try magic they're not supposed to.

I though it was just certain mages they cut out the tongues out of, not all mages? Which is to say that you had to do something to earn that privilege?

And where did Bodahn say he had a wife in Ferelden? That I totally missed in DA2.

The Ben-Hassrath acts as the Qunari's secret police, working under the Ariqun, meaning they are technically classed as part of the Qunari priesthood. Tallis was a member of the Ben-Hassrath. They train both males and females in combat, though it is not the role's primary purpose. Elven Ben-Hassrath tend to be sent to non-Qunari nations, Tevinter in particular, selling themselves into slavery and servitude to act as spies.

Wow...  I didn't know they took it that far.  That's some dedication!

There will be one sentence mention of it at the start of the game (probably) and then no NPC will notice or care for the rest of the game.

Aside from a female warrior being considered taboo by followers of the Qun, i doubt the inquisitor's gender will have any major impact on the narrative.

Qunari Female Mages in are not considered females in the Qun. Just Mages.

I wonder how the introduction of Qunari Mage will be. I'm so tempted of running a Qunari Mage(Or just a female one) as my first character after I heard of the Qunari being a PC

It was stated they were Tal'Vashoth? When and where?
Also, what is  Ben-Hassrath?

It was said shortly after they were confirmed to be playable. We also saw we have a last name in the PAX demo if we play as a qunari, further proving we're not of the Qun.

The Ben-Hassrath acts as the Qunari's secret police, working under the Ariqun, meaning they are technically classed as part of the Qunari priesthood. Tallis was a member of the Ben-Hassrath. Being a Tal Vashoth and being a non-Qun Qunari are two different things. Did they actually say we are Tal Vashoth or just a Qunari being raised outside the Qun?

Pretty sure they just left it as not of the Qun, but most people use the terms interchangeably so I assumed this is what rasloveszev meant. Personally, I am hoping the background is simply 'they left the Qun' as I feel it as wider and more interesting possibilites.

I don't understand all the fasination to play as a Qunari. They're ok but not worth that degree of attention over the other races.

Because they're so foreign and alien.
IMO, Origins and DA2 doesn't tell us that much about Qunari culture, merely adds more questions about them.
Also, people simply like trying new things. DAI will be the first game you can play as a Qunari.

And the Qunari are not like the traditional races in fantasy like the dwarves and elves, the Qunari are a bit of a twist against that tradition..

I'm stoked to play a Qunari exactly because of this.  I find them a refreshing alterntive to the drunken, underground and tradition-bound mining dwarves and the beautiful questionably-immortal elves with affinity toward bows and magic.  They're also not some sort of non-human/human hybrid (Charr/Khajiit, etc.).  But I also like them because I am interested to see how exactly the world will respond to me.  When I remember my first elven playthrough, I was actually surprised how many times my race came up in dialogue and I did feel put on the defense as the manipulator of an avatar which affected my character's responses.  Learning that a Qunari playthrough will result in certain outcomes being particularly difficult makes this all the more interesting to me and I wonder what outcome I'll actually end up with.  Will it be less than the ostensible "ideal?"  Will it be the one my character desires?  Will I, as a player, have to "settle?"

But while I'm optimistic that Thedas will respond to my race, I'm not so certain it will respond to my gender (which will be a woman).  Even though, for example, the dialogue options for men and women are slightly different in DAO (and granted, I've never played through all the way as male or at all in DA2 as male) I doubt gender will come up much.  Pity, though, as it seems that there is certainly a divide in cultural expectation across several races.
